After three straight losses, men's lacrosse (3-4) gets a chance to get their season back on track against Delaware at the State Street Stadium today. Tickets are $1 and the game will be streamed here - https://mgoblue.com/watch/?Live=501&type=Archive.

Michigan is coming off a tough loss against archrival Notre Dame in which they kept it close into the 4th quarter despite missing their top scorer and their entire faceoff unit. The good news is Delaware is also a weak faceoff team.

Delaware is doing well under second-year head coach Ben DeLuca and stands at 6-2, their only losses to Villanova and Hopkins. They don't have any particularly strong wins however. But, nevertheless they will pose another significant challenge to Michigan. This matchup looked like a sure-fire W at the beginning of the season but DeLuca appears to have them ahead of schedule.

This is a critical game for Michigan - it's their last non-conference game and Hopkins comes to town next week so it's an opportunity for a much-needed win. Hopefully they can take care of business today. GO BLUE!!!

Michigan got two nice goals in a brief flurry before the end of the half, including a behind-the-back goal by Myers off a brilliant quick feed from Mack with 2.8 seconds left.

Michigan got sloppy in the 2nd quarter and Delaware stretched the lead to 4 at one point. Dellacroce took a few faceoffs but it looks like he might have gotten hurt again.

Michigan's on-ball defense isn't looking so hot - they've given up at least two goals on simple 2-man pick plays in which they didn't switch or just lost their man. They've also given up a few soft goals by just letting their man get to a good shooting position in front of the cage at which point they just turn and shoot. This is fairly simple stuff they should be able to figure out. Michigan's D isn't bad they just need to be more organized and need to make their opponents work harder to score.

Well, maybe they can get a win over Rutgers... maybe? It feels like they took 5 steps back this year. I know the faceoff unit hasn't been at full strength, but we have a great goalie and many returned from last year.

You're probably right. They've got an urgency to get two strong faceoff specialists and at least three middies with excellent outside shots for next season. The 80-second shot clock seems to benefit teams with accurate firepower from the outside because shots on goal have become mandatory now that shots that hit the post or go wide aren't going to stop the shot clock. If you can't get a shot on goal within 80 seconds, then you've turned the ball over. This also puts a premium on winning the faceoff because that usually will get you more chances to shoot. Now, as for winning less than five games next season:

Fewer.

many, like me, have been outside working much of the day and/or just checking the hoops score and going back on task.  thank you for doing these, kind of like the lax version of what umx does for hockey.  without you posting scores most of us will miss it.
