M Hockey to host RIT homecoming weekend
The 2012-13 Michigan Hockey schedule is slowly starting to be pieced together as other teams release theirs. Michigan usually torments us by keeping us in suspense releases their complete schedule sometime in August, but here is some news.
Michigan will welcome the tigers from Rochester Institiute of Technology of the AHA, on Thursday 10/11 and Friday 10/12. They usually do this to cater to the homecoming football game. This will be the first time ever the two schools meet on the ice. Both games will be 7:05pm starts.
RIT is the team, that shocked the world and made the Frozen Four in 2010 which was played at Ford Field.
Here is the rest of the schedule keys released-
10/11 | vs RIT |
10/12 | vs RIT |
10/19 | vs Bentley |
11/2 | at Northern |
11/3 | at Northern |
11/9 | vs State |
11/10 | at State |
11/21 | vs Bowling Green |
11/24 |
vs Cornell (at Madison Square Garden) |
12/27 | vs Tech (GLI at Comerica Park) |
12/28 | vs Western/State (GLI at Comerica Park) |
1/8 | vs Bowling Green |
1/12 | vs Alaska |
1/13 | vs Alaska |
2/1 | vs State |
2/2 | vs State (Joe Louis Arena) |
Comerica will be filled if there's a Michigan-MSU game, but I doubt if there will even be 10K people for the other matchups since people will banking on going to see Michigan-MSU in the championship.
Don't count on state beating western.
western is turning into more of a competitive rival than state is. They have the better program right now.
Still doesn't feel as good as win against state though.
I was at Ford Field also. I thought it was great. I was rooting for them.
I grew up outside of Rochester as well. When I was looking at colleges, I was told that RIT had too many bricks and not enough chicks.
I grew up in Chili but went to MCQ - what about you? Always good to see some fellow WNYers.
Hilton, a small town outside of Greece, right about where farms start to stretch as far as you can see.
Nice. Another westsider. My grandmother lives on the lake in Hamlin, so I've driven past those farms a bunch.
I grew up in Fairport went to McQ, parents taught (mom still does) at RIT. Attended many hockey games at RIT growing up including their D-III national championship run in 1984-85(?). The fans were awesome back then - student section was called the Corner Crew and they taught me most of the swear words and a few other concepts I didn't understand at the time.
That was pretty awesome. I also grew up outside of Rochester in Canandaigua. Wherabouts do you hail from?
I wish we could do some home-and-homes with bigger names so we could get to see a NoDak, BC, BU, Maine, Denver, etc at Yost. I feel like ever since we played BU like 3-4 seasons ago at Yost, the non-con schedule at Yost has been awful.
I can't be the only non-Michigan attending RIT alum who loves Michigan on this site, right?
Well, either way, I never expected this to be a conflict of interest, even in 2010 when RIT was on fire but finally I get to see UM and RIT head to head!
RIT will probably get trounced but this is such a great win just to get UM on the schedule, especially when we were DIII just about 6 years ago.
Fun times for the Tigers!
We're also going to RIT in 2013, as part of their homecoming weekend.
