Junior highlights: 2021 OT commit Giovanni El-Hadi

Submitted by Magnus on February 18th, 2020 at 7:05 PM

Utica (MI) Stevenson offensive tackle Giovanni El-Hadi posted his junior season highlights. I'll post them below, but let me save you some trouble: the first 40 seconds of it is still photos and "accolades," which is a really boring way to start a highlight video. So you might want to skip ahead...

Anyway, El-Hadi is a 247 Composite 4-star, the #13 offensive tackle, and #63 overall.

I think he's pretty dang good. He's quick and violent off the ball.

I'm not sure how big he is. He's listed at 6'5", but he doesn't look that big to me. He looks like one of those guys that could be 6'4", but he has the athleticism to play tackle.

I might have some concerns about his playing guard, because he's not that bulky. This offense (and perhaps offenses in general) seems to be trending toward athletic tackles - without a premium on size - and burly guards. Ben Bredeson was a block of granite, and Mike Onwenu is the Sysiphean boulder. El-Hadi doesn't look like either of them.

If he looks like anyone on Michigan's line, it's left tackle Jon Runyan, Jr.

That’s what I was thinking.  But ~45% of the players on offense are OL (thus ~23% of your starting 22 offense/defense players), it would make a bit more sense if ~21% of the top recruits are OL (13 of 63).  The high school kids who are good enough to play D1 usually play OT in high school.  Many will not be OT in college tho

It’s always like that. They promote any athletic 6’ 5” + 300+ kid to the top of the list bc they’re hard to find. But it’s ironic because OT is the hardest position to project because kids, especially of that future frame, are still growing at 17/18. Look at Hayes. He’ll be a fine LT, but dude looked like he might legitimately be a TE when he came in.

OLine recruiting is something I can rest to.

My problem is I peaked in HS, and now I keep remembering those years more strongly. Wishing to go back and change them.

I think what I have to do is let go of that and keep focused on the future.

Sorry for saying this now. I'm sure El-Hadi will be a great player in college.

I'm just saying that I have a problem and it needs to be fix right away.

It all starts with me.
