John Beilein interview on Titus and Tate

Submitted by mgoviking5 on February 19th, 2021 at 12:13 PM

Beilein hopped on with Mark Titus and Tate Frazier for a discussion about the current state of Michigan basketball, the * rivalry * with OSU, and a bit of talk about his future. He also gave some insight as to why he went with Isaiah Livers over Duncan Robinson (a TnT favorite) mid-season in 2018. Interview runs from 34:30 to 52:38.

My guess would be defense on the Livers vs. Robinson thing? If I remember correctly, Duncan's defense (or lack thereof) made him pretty much unplayable as a starter in Yaklich's system, which is especially a credit to him and how far he's come in the NBA...

I just watched a Heat game....teams plan their offense to go at him.  You watch him try and defend those guys and he gets EATEN alive.  Spolstra ,of course, plans for this and they try and shield him as much as possble.

So yeah, made strides, but its clear as day teams spot the weakness and attack.

BUT ooo wee he shoots the lights out.  Forgot how pretty his shot is.

I remember reading Titus' book chronicling his career as a walk basketball player at OSU. He was funny but an incredible asshat toward Michigan, reveling in their run against us while we were in Ed Martin purgatory. I listened in expecting to hate him but he was very reasonable, engaging and fair with Beilein and UM. Have to admit most OSU alums are decent and respectful of the rivalry. And not a single Ohio fanboy who didn't attend is remotely that way.
