Jelani Jenkins

What are the chances we land him? The film I've seen of him makes him look like a freak of nature. I don't know about anyone else but I'd like Michigan to land a big name OLB. Just my personal opinion though...

Again though, what are the chances we get him? I thought I heard he would be in Ann Arbor this week-end.

I think there is a chance but not a high one.  I believe he visited this summer and Coach Shafer was out to see his game last Saturday.  He is not one of those recruits that talks to scout or rivals every week, so he is a little hard to read.

He does seem to like Michigan.   “A lot of things stand out,” Jenkins said. “They have a great tradition and obviously a good football team. They have a new coach that has a lot of prestige.”

Everytime Jenkins comes up on Sam Webb's Recruiting Roundups on WTKA, Webb says that he's spoken to Jenkins' dad and has been assured that once Jelani narrows his list, Michigan will be on it.

Call it wishful thinking or whatever...but I think Michigan is in a very good spot with JJ at the moment. Obviously not saying we'll get him...but things are as good as they can be right now.

I'd like to see this happen too, but I'm not real optomistic.  But linebacker is one of those positions that we haven't had a blue-chip recruit at in a while, probably since Brandon Graham, who isn't even an LB anymore.  I know Fitzgerald is solid, but he's not as big as some of the badass pick-ups we've had at almost every other position in the last few years, and with our LB play so far this season, it is a position that doesn't lack depth, but lacks top-end talent.  Jenkins would change that.

I think that we're in a good position.  I am not saying something cheesy like, "he is total Michigan Man material," but from what I gather he is a smart kid who cares about academics.  It's not to say that every Michigan player is a saint, that every kid who goes somewhere else is a thug, or that Michigan is the only FBS school with good academics, but it just seems like Michigan tends to have good chances with prospects who (or whose parents) make academics a high priority, which is basically because Michigan is a good school.  That said, he could just as easily end up at a school such as BC, ND, or Florida.
