Inkster defeats St. Ed's
It appears my comment about Inkster's playoff hopes being dashed was way too early. The fightin' Gardners were able to pull out a win against Ohio powerhouse, St. Edwards, 14-6. I have not seen Gardner's stats for this game, and only know he scored a TD and a 2-pt. conversion, but the story of this game has to be the Inkster defense, which stepped up after dissapointing performances the last 2 weeks and held a very good St. Ed's offense to only 6 points.
St. Ed's was probably the 2nd toughest game on Inksters' schedule, and if the defense can start performing like this regularly, they certainly stand a chance to make the playoffs in Michigan despite a very difficult schedule. I'm looking forward to FNL this week to see exactly how well Gardner performed in his first test against a school that has occaisonally been ranked nationally the past few years. They have 3 games against some average to aboverage Michigan competition, and if they win all 3, will be in a position to win one of their last 2 against national giant St. Ignatious, and a good Ohio program, Steubenville, in order to get into the playoffs. I believe 5 games would get them in because of their 8 game schedule, the very difficult schedule they faced, and their lack of a home game all year.

Do games against Ohio teams count towards making the playoffs in Michigan? Does the MHSAA still have that goofy point system to get into the playoffs? It has been years since I've actually paid attention to how teams actually qualify for the playoffs.

If you win 6, you are in. Inkster only plays 8 games this year though, instead of 9. I assume Ohio teams count, but I can't confirm that.

You can win 5 and also be in.. but it's far more difficult to do so. My last two years of high school my team went 5-4 and we barely missed out both times. A lot has to fall into place (certain teams losing/winning for it to happen).

If you only play 8 games then that number decreases to 5 wins. I think playing out of state teams do count towards your play-off total, due to some schools being on the border (and schools in the UP) having to play more out of state schools than instate schools.

You are a gentleman and a scholar.

Wow ... Ed's is one hell of a program .. congrats Inkster
I went and seen DJ Williamson and Harding look sorry in a loss to Youngstown Cardinal Mooney ... DJ can't do much because his QB is below average on a good day.

a great win for them, but I seriously wouldn't discount the Stuebenville game. I had heard Eds was down but I don't know. I do know Stuebenville has a great team this year, and I would recommend seeing that game if your in the area.

a bit, but my dad and i are planning to go see Stuebenville/Massillon in a couple weeks.
if you've never seen a Big Red game, you're in for a treat. their fans are craaaaazy.

you're getting neg points, everything you said about DJ and Harding is spot-on.
i've mentioned the terrible coaching already, and Mooney is definitely one of the best teams in the state every single year, but to have the fastest kid in the state and not use him is awful.
multiple turnovers doesn't help either. ;)
hopefully he'll be one of those kids that blooms under Barwis, but right now, he's a (very fast) bust.

one more thing in regards to DJ Williamson.
he seems to have the kind of speed that doesn't really translate to the field. i was reading an Ohio HS Sports website, and someone said that 'some people just run better than others in pads'..from what i've seen of him this year and last, his 100m time really hasn't translated to the field yet.
but like i said, a couple years with Barwis and who knows..
