Huyge Eligibility

Submitted by Brick on
Now that Huyge looks like he may become a contributing member of our O line, does anyone know what the possibility is of gaining a sixth year of eligibility? I know it can happen sometimes with an injury but I'm not sure what the rules are. I think Huyge redshirted and then was out last year with an injury so I believe we can apply for a medical redshirt in addition to the voluntary one.

Probably won't happen. Usually sixth years are only granted to players who have extenuating circumstances, such as two season-ending injuries. Also, he has three years of eligibility remaining, so his injury last year likely won't have hurt his chances at moving on to the next level. In other words, unless he tears an ACL or breaks a leg or something, five years is the max.

I went to the spring game, and man, was I wrong on him. He looks like a legit Big Ten starter, and clearly ahead of Omameh. He's quick, agile, and lean. Not to get ahead of myself (especially because I said he would never start here) but he might be a 3-year starter here.
