Don Nehlen on Bo
Don Nehlen gave a keynote speech in Ohio(!) and had some nice things to say about Bo and M. A pretty good off-season puff piece with a couple nice quotes.
"Going with Bo was the best thing that ever happened to me," said Nehlen. "Because I got the Bowling Green job when I was so young, I never knew if I was doing the right thing or not. When I went there (Michigan) I found out I was doing the right thing and it gave me a lot of confidence. Bo was such a great guy to work for. My wife loved him, she did not want to go to West Virginia. She loved Bo because Bo treated me so well. Going with Bo was just a dream."
And:
"He kind of turned out to be my mentor," said Nehlen. "When I went to West Virginia, we did everything that Michigan did. Even our school colors where the same, all I did was turn the M upside down, really. At West Virginia I really got lucky. At the time I went there, they had a poll of the 10 worst teams in America and West Virginia was one of those 10 worst teams. The enthusiasm there for football is unbelievable. The best thing that ever happened to me was going to Michigan and then I got lucky and got the West Virginia job."
The guy that (momentarily) turned WVU around credits some of it to his time at M. A WVU fan would puke reading this. Trust me...I grew up there.

thanks.
bo is legend.
Bo gave Nehlen a shot, and Nehlen gave Rich Rodriguez a shot. So RichRod is a Michigan Man, he just has an extra degree of separation is all. Very good read, Bo was a great man, and his influence on college football will not be forgottebn. Go Blue, R.I.P. Bo.

And incidentally, Bo is said to have been a fan of Rodriguez's when he was at WVU. Philosophically, the two were/are a lot closer than people think (and perhaps, closer than Bo was to Lloyd).
i got the impression that lloyd was not bo's first choice for HC. obviously he supported lloyd, the man was a great assistant for bo, but it seemed as though he'd rather have kept moeller or have had les be the coach. that is just speculation on my part though.
You aren't the only one who has speculated that very same thing.....
The only one I have is "Tradition".
The one he co-wrote with John Bacon. I think it's called "Bo's Lasting Lessons." I haven't read it yet.
If we all start touting that Michigan really created the WVU program, their fans would go totally batshit.

"their fans would go totally batshit."
They already are. Weren't they threatening RichRod's family?
For some reason I didn't put that qualifier in there.
