Steelers lost their starting kicker for the season and had to sign a new kicker. They waived Devin Gardner to make room.  It's expected since the Steelers are deep at WR and they already spent a draft pick on Sammie Coates.  Devin's inability to make catches in preseason doesn't help either.

Mods, can you embed this tweet since I don't know how to do it?

The blame game around here is embarassing.  A "Dual Threat" QB making it in the NFL is extremely rare no matter highly rated they are in HS.  Besides Cam Newton and maybe Bridgewater there isn't a highly ranked dual threat guy sticking in the NFL.  Gardner could never throw into an NFL window and it isn't Hoke or Borges fault.  I don't think there is one QB from the class of 2010 on an NFL roster.  Is that a complete coaching failure across the nation?  Pryor couldn't even stick at QB and he was a much higher rated prospect who had college success.  Who is to blame for that?  As far as wide reciever, he couldn't beat a 4.6 40 on his pro day.  That screams possesion receiver but he doesn't have the hands to be a possesion receiver.

I wish the best for DG in his future but it's probably not in the NFL unless he develops as a WR and I recall our coaching staff being ridiculed for putting him there.  It is not Hoke, Borges, or Brandon's fault.  Most college players, even the highly ranked ones, are not good enough for the NFL.

Who cares about "sticking?" It's about million dollar signing bonuses/salaries and potential financial security for guys like Vince Young, Pryor, Kaepernick, Russell, Tebow, and countless other dual-threat QBs that Gardner is in the same class as athletically. Dude got shorted millions due to this coaching staff, and he's not the only one.

With KC and Andy Reid! He would fit in great there or even Baltimore. I could see him playing for the Ravens as they need a WR bad and he could fill a hole for awhile.

From the Anonymous Big Ten Coaches thread:

“I think Devin Gardner was better than people gave him credit for. He is a unique athlete who was capable of throwing the ball. He could have been a great college football player in the right system.”

We broke him.

Fuckin a right we broke him.  DG was the #5 ranked QB in the nation in HS.  He went through several coaches and 2 position changes here... and all the dude did will Michigan to almost beat tOSU on a broken foot.

and said that he wasn't a very good QB in HS but was very raw. Inkster got killed in that game. High rating means that he had a lot of potential, but we all know what that means. It's the same guy who thought that Bolden sucked at QB at OLSM as well.
