Well if you are going by the experts and career epidemiologists at the WHO, people who understand the concept of uncertain denominators, the lethality rate is 3.4%, 35x the flu and hundreds of thousands more Americans than your <1% estimate.

If you wanna use South Korea, the best dataset to support the theory that the coronavirus isn't that deadly (and it's an outlier when compared to Iran or Italy, a country with widespread access to world class medical care), the number is still over 1%. So your post is false.

But only if we are using data.

I do apologize for the condescending tone. It has been massively frustrating the past 6 weeks trying to convince everyone I come into contact with that the pandemic, based on all of the facts available, is the largest threat to both our health and our economy in my 35 years. And now that it is a proper pandemic that has the ability to grind our health care system to a halt, I have little tolerance for comments that belittle its dangers.

Cheers, and best of luck in these strange times.

It’s all good my friend.  I understand the incredibly difficult year in front of all of us and the frustration that can arise when people choose to ignore it.
My hospital, like many others, has basically dropped everything to try to be prepared for the crush that’s coming.

Since 2018 the Flu has killed 35 678 people in the US

How many have died from Corona virus?

Roughly 118 Million people in the US have had the Flu since 2015.How many have had Corona Virus...1/3 of the US population has had the Flu in the past 5 years (with some people getting it 3-4-5 times in those 5 years)

How are people still repeating this idiocy?

We are just at the beginning of this outbreak, of a virus for which we have no prior immunity and no vaccine.  Do you not see how that is different from the flu?

If we practice social distancing, hand washing etc., we can keep the death rate down from Covid-19.  The whole point of all this is avoid the disaster that is striking Italy and Iran right now, and Wuhan before China locked down its population.

The flu is a proper pandemic. It is fully spread throughout the community.

The coronavirus is only beginning to exhibit community transmission. Within the past couple weeks. When it is as widespread as the flu (which computer models predict will happen late April to early may) there will likely be multiple times greater numbers of fatalities in the US vs the flu.

Why is this info even being released at this point? It’s a HIPAA violation unless he’s the one sharing it. Even then it’s really nobody’s business.

Nobody's business?  Should he be temporarily quarantined, or should he just jump into a spa at the gym?  I absolutely do not care about his confidentiality at this point.  Or yours.  Or mine.

Probably it's because of my own selfish reasons, but I went with my wife of 32 years to Mexico in December so she could have a stem cell transplant procedure in hopes of halting her recently diagnosed MS.  After 4 doses of chemo, she & all the patients in the group expectedly went into neutropenia.  Her immune system has been reset, & this outbreak could not come at a worse possible time for her & me.

I'm sure Wood IS keeping to himself and self-isolating these days.  Is there any evidence that he is not?

Donovan Mitchell released a Social Media update yesterday - he's doing fine, just hanging out by himself and playing a whole lot of video games.

HIPPA is a thing and Wood has a right to confidentiality - I'm sorry, but I read your post and you're seemingly advocating for a police-state here.

This right here folks.  For those of you cracking jokes and not practicing social distancing, think of yourselves in this persons shoes. I know too many people(family included), who aren’t taking this seriously. The ironic thing is that in the end, the stable, reasonable majority will end up protecting the fringe lunatics who either see this as a conspiracy or as the apocalypse.

Good news is the spread in china seems to be slowing quite a bit.  They’re hitting the top of the bell curve right now.  If we do so in another month (same timeline as China) then this may not be as bad as predicted.

China’s rate has slowed not because of natural factors but because they’ve put everyone on lockdown.  It’s likely that when the lockdown finally ends, they’ll have a new increase.  Hopefully by that point they’ll be more prepared.

When you’re talking about a highly transmittable virus for which we have no immunity, it’s not going to just go away.  We’re realistically going to deal with this for awhile until either we have herd immunity (from everyone getting it) or a vaccine.  Which is why we need to flatten the curve and keep the hospital system functioning in the meantime.

Wish him a speedy recovery.  I do wonder if there is a "Patient Zero" in the NBA; I know Gobert was the first to test positive and was a bit of an ass in how he acted beforehand, but I've read other reports that there were a number of staff and back-office people traveling quite a bit to areas that became hot-spots and they were more likely the culprit.  I may not help that much now given how wide-spread the virus seems to be, but it would be interesting to trace back how it became so prevalent so quickly in the league.
