Defense Question

Submitted by Hard Gay on

Have we ever seen Cissoko, Warren, and Trent on the field at the same time?

It seems to me that whenever an opposing teams lines up with three or more wideouts, the third man is either covered by a linebacker or a safety.

I seem to remember seeing a lot of 3 safeties, and 3 down linemen sets, and these weren't on obvious passing situations, either.  I don't see how taking away a player from arguably the best position on the defense and replacing him with a player from arguably our worse position on defense can give us any chance for success.

You are forgetting that for much of our season, our "Nickelback" has been Brandon Harrison, who played cornerback last year. Stewart comes on to fill his safety spot. So, you see 3 safeties, but, Harrison is, in all actuality, a cornerback masquerading as a safety this season.

I figured that was the case.  I wonder how beneficial it would be if we put cissoko at nickel and harrison back at his safety position.

But then there are the cases where Stewart, Brown, or a linebacker line up in the nickel.  I would have figured that Cissoko would be a better choice there.

our best defensive allignment yesterday was w/DWAR and Boo Boo @ corners and stewart/harrison combo at S. every time we utilized this personnel grouping we stopped state from driving down the field.

Boo Boo hasn't seen that many snaps, and I am already glad to see him as the downfield cover guy on deep balls.  There is something about a 5'8" corner who never gets out of the face of a 6'4" reciever that warms the depths of my heart.  He's made a few errors on trying to jump routes, but the best kind of error to make is one that comes from having a lot of aggression.  I think he may have some trouble in run support, and I can see him just get obliterated by pulling gaurds, but he seems to play the game with a lot of intensity.  Punt returns have been encouraging also.

wat we need to do is do a 4-2-5 defense...the four defensive linemen get the pressure, and our linebackers really arrnt that good, so we should just cut our losses...and we get the fifth coverage man in there (we need as many as we can get)...the 3-3-5 doesnt work cuz the blitzing linebacker always gets stopped...we need that fourth man in there for the pass rush, and we need the 5 guys in coverage cuz we suck...so loeffler: 4-2-5 is the way to go
