Dayeesha Hollins Leaves Women's Basketball Team
Bad news for the women's basketball program as starting point guard Dayeesha Hollins has decided to leave the team. Story in www.annarbor.com indicates her decision was a purely personal one. She's looking to transfer to a school closer to her home in Cincinnati:
"I have always been very close to my family, and I learned that I still need their support on a daily basis," Hollins said. "It was hard for my mom to travel constantly to see me and be there for me and I feel it’s best for me to try and get closer to home. Coach Borseth is a great coach and leaving him and the team is very difficult. I pray for the team's continued success and I thank the university for giving me this opportunity.”
This is likely to be a significant blow to the team next year. Hollins was an exciting player and a major reason for the team's success in 2009-10.
It's disappointing to see her go, but best of luck to her wherever she ends up.
Best press conference entrance ever.
One of my most favorite rants of all time. Totally awesome.
Dayeesha.....you are the girl that I neva had and I want to get to know you bettah. Dayeeshaaa, you know I want you so bad and there's nothing anyone can do...to keep me away from you!
..that the paper that will not be named will find a way to spin this as all Rich Rod's fault.
Is this really necessary in a thread about women's basketball?
While sometimes she was frustrating to watch whenever she'd never pass and try to do everything herself, she definitely had talent and would have developed into a fantastic player. I'm sure the team will be fine, I have faith in Borseth. Stu's girlfriend does a nice job at that position as well.
I'm sure Borseth will find a way to deal with this, but the departure of Hollins is a pretty big blow to the team's immediate depth. They now will have only nine players returning next year, with only one incoming freshman.
Definitely a more enviable position than the depths of the Burnett era, when turnover was an offseason guarantee. Remember the year Becky Flippin was a team captain as a freshman?
Hollins ended up transferring to Cincinnati--she can't get much closer to home than that!
