Dashonte Riley

For you basketball recruiting gurus, how is it that Dashonte Riley dropped from 5 stars to 3 over this past year? In years past it seemed like basketball rankings don't fluctuate too much. We should get this kid regardless, but just wondering.

I haven't seen too many stars get taken away, let alone two stars from one guy. It doesn't sound like there is much interest in either direction between Riley and Michigan though. actually I just saw a discussion on another board about this and Riley is apparently pretty inconsistent with his effort and production. So when he was initially give 5 stars it was because he was young and analysts thought he might mature and grow out of those habits. His relegation to 3 stars was because he never did.

In the state playoffs against Flint Powers Catholic last and bad showings against top-notch competition in summer ball seem to be the main culprits. He seems like one of those guys who has the frame and the talent to be great, but something's missing. He reminds me a lot of Courtney Sims, and not in a good way.

speaking of Flint Powers, I watched the freshman brother of Laval Lucas-Perry in the state semi-finals/finals last year. He was very small but was a solid player at the varsity level as a freshman. Didn't know if this kid was being recruited by anyone yet and if so does Michigan have a line on him with Laval here?

Even with the drop to 3 stars he's still ranked as high as almost all the recruits we've gotten recently, Darius Morris excepted. Throw in our need to big men and I think this is a guy we could go after. Then again I haven't followed this guy too closely, but it sounds like he has a fairly impressive list of offers.
