The Curious Career of Glen Rice
I live in LA and have followed the Lakers for virtually my entire life. One of my favorite periods of Laker fandom occurred during the 2000 season when Glen Rice faced Jalen Rose in the NBA Finals. A lot of people around town were down on Rice because of Phil Jackson's very-public comments that he wanted a 'different type of player' for the triangle. I remember blocking most of that out because of my bias towards Rice. Anyway, there's a great Lakers blog (www.forumblueandgold.com) that I read every day and, on Thursday, there was a FANTASTIC piece on the career of Glen Rice. I thought I'd pass it along as it is a very interesting/enjoyable read (even for the Pistons fans out there).

When you are making the title of your forum, mark it with OT if it is Off Topic. Just forum ettiquette.

Is a post on an ex-UM basketball player really off-topic?

No problem, but may I ask what exactly is off topic? The title is self explanatory: this is a thread about the career of Glen Rice.

Rice virtually single-handedly propelled the Wolverines through the 1989 NCAA tournament. How is writing about him off-topic?

They have a banner hanging with Rice's retired number on it.

An interesting read, but there's one weird mistake. Rice didn't lead Miami to the playoffs in his first year, much less the conference finals. I don't know where the author got that idea from.

I would rather read about Glen Rice's stellar college career than his mediocre pro career. One curious thing to note is that as a sophomore he averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds (I think this lead the big ten) while making only 3 3ptrs for the season. We was really Michigan's only effective interior player during that year.
I was rooting for the Pacers that year in the NBA finals as Jalen was playing the best basketball of his career.

Mediocre? Rice averaged over 18 ppg in the pros. His NBA career wasn't quite as good as his college career, but it was still very, very good.

LOVE Glen Rice. His basketball career is nothing short of exceptional, National Championship in College, All-Star and World Champion in the NBA....who could criticize that??
