Cornelius Jones' season opener
I saw on the Tuesday Recruiting that Co[r]nelius Jones started his season last Friday and that it would be covered in this week's Friday Night Lights. Being impatient, I looked for a boxscore and the answer was not pretty.
His line for the night was: 7-24 for 42 yards.

Completely missed that over the weekend. My apologies.

I lol'd at this comment. Not because of what you said, but because of the complaining about diaries being bumped or deleted so quality ones stay up front longer.

diary with good information. Please delete this thread if you feel it's cluttering the board as it is a duplicate of that diary.

I'm not going to delete it. It's getting that particular diary more views, which is what it deserves.

As noted above, this was already discussed in the diary. For those of you that haven't read it, I suggest you do.
One extremely important note is that Cornelius was playing against one of the best teams in the nation. Hopefully that means that that was the worst game of his season and the rest of his stats will look better.
If that's not the case, then we can still ponder the meaning of this from Tuesday Recruitin' today, "He's open to switching positions once he gets to Ann Arbor, but will come in as a quarterback."

Lets remember that his team is really not that good and he was going against a great team.

Having lived in that District (against whom he played), I will say: Word.

Let's be honest. Does anyone think he will ever touch the field for M as a qb?

The masses of lower ranked, unheralded recruits that end up being very productive will haunt your dreams tonight.

I'm just saying, barring a complete catasprophe, more than likely the only chance he has to play qb will be as a 5th year senior unless Devin is so good he leaves after his junior/redshirt sophomore year. My guess is that the coaching staff offered more on his athletic ability, and not necessarily on his qb skills.

I think you're right in that the chance that he's ever a starter is low. Not zero, but fairly low. However, we don't know how we will recruit at QB in future years, or how he'll progress. He may end up being a solid back-up, or Gardner may get hurt, even for a series or two. Saying he'll never see the field is a little short sighted.

Agreed, but he will be sitting behind Tate/Denard for his first 3 years. I would also like to think we will continue to sign Devin caliber qb's in future classes as well (hopefully Braxton Miller). I guess my main point here is that I am guessing that the coaches liked his athletic ability and see the potential of a position move down the road. With his minimal amount of playing football the last few years, I can see how he has the potential to be a late bloomer at qb as well. Don't get me wrong though, I do like taking a flier on a guy like this after securing a commitment from a guy like Devin.
