College fantasy football

Submitted by shorts on
So I ran a college fantasy football league last year that involved several of my friends, with me serving as commmissioner and calculating stats by hand (which was rather time-consuming). It was awesome and a lot of fun, and I definitely plan to do it again this year. Now, though, with CBSSports and other sites adding college football to their fantasy games, I'd like to host it online and have at least 10 or 12 owners (one thing I discovered last year is that with 120 FBS teams, there are ALWAYS good players available if your league isn't big enough). Would anyone be interested in doing this? I'd like to set up a draft for next weekend, so if you'd like to get in, shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll send you the league info so we can get organized. It will be mostly the same settings as your standard NFL fantasy football league, but with some of the unique college offenses, it really does make for some interesting strategy.

It just seems like this would be too hard. Every week you could pick up players who are playing crappy teams and play them. And since there are so many players in college football, every team could do that.

There's an easy way around that: As commissioner, I simply set a limit of one non-injury transaction per week. That way, you can't just pick up whoever's playing a I-AA team each week. Also, it's pretty risky to drop, say, Dan LeFevour for a mediocre QB with a good matchup when you know that someone else can pick up LeFevour and you won't get him back. I thought about a conference setup, but using all teams is even better if you have the right rules.

I'm still looking for people if anyone's interested. Right now I have 7 or 8 teams, and I'd really like to get to at least 10 teams to have a good league. I'd be happy to answer any questions or concerns, and trust me, it is a lot of fun. I did this last year and I think I've worked out the kinks, so definitely send me an e-mail if you have any interest.
