If anyone cares, our 2009 recruiting class is currently ranked 6th, with USC 2nd. We fell from #4, about a month ago.

Not surprising, we haven't really signed anyone of note recently. I think we also have a few prospects who want to see how the offense is run this season before committing.

You mean for depth, right? Because I'm pretty sure a 6 CB defensive alignment is going to have trouble stopping any running game with a pulse.

No.  We will run an 11 CB defense.  Barwis will turn them all into tackling god-robots who can destroy 260 pound Wisconsin running backs and annihilate 320 pound OSU offensive lineman while having sex with their cheerleaders and clubbing Brutus the Buckeye across the face with their huge Barwis-ized johnsons.  EEEEEEE Barwis!

State's up to #7 now, too, though they've got their fair share of the usual instate guys who no one else was really looking at.

Brian - I understand that we likely had no interest in the QB they got (name escapes me...) but weren't we legitimately in on Baker, Caper, and Norman?

I think we were really interested in Baker, but were only putting out a half-assed effort on Caper - just enough to make sure no one could accuse us of not trying to land him.  Regardless, Teric Jones was our #1 instate RB target, and we got him.

Norman... I can't really remember, which makes me think we probably weren't after him too hard.  That's just a guess, though.

I thought that Jones was persona non-grata until early this summer - long after Caper committed. No?

It's possible - I'm going based on what I read on the Scout boards back when I subscribed, and their insiders do have a sort of 'revisionist' way of reporting, sometimes.  I definitely remember reading reports that Caper was not as impressive as billed, even before he comitted to MSU, and that UMs interest was waning.
