CC: Impact of Urban and OSU

Submitted by massblue on

I think Urban/OSU's success is having a negative impact on UM's attempt to hire a new coach.

I have a connection to a head coach whose name has come up as part of the plan B. He was telling me that even though UM is a fantasic job and a major upgrade for him. he is not sure he will take it, if offered.  His reason was that UM and other BIG teams will have a hard time competing with OSU.  He did not think a UM coach can survive if he loses to OSU 4 out of 5 times.

Edit:  This coach was thinking that it will take a while for UM to actually beat OSU 1 out of 2-3 times and that UM will not give the next coach 4-5 years to reach that level unless the coach's name is Harbaugh, Miles, Stoops, etc.

I'm not even sure that Urban Meyer will be at OSU five years from now. He left Florida early because of various issues (family, health, depression, psychology) that are probably still with him.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if he left a lot earlier than OSU fans hope.

Massblue,

This isn't are guy. No offense.

But he isn't ready for the big show. Good coaches welcome the challenge and take it head on. This guy is already talking losses to our rival even before he stepped foot in the big house.

No disrespect but we don't want you if this is your mind set guy. Think Bo said that ever???

I would not want him here because I think he will face the same fate as Hoke.  His name has been mentioned as a remote possibility and he is happy where he is.

My point and his point was that OSU is such a litmus test for our coach that it may give some coaches a pause.  I think the same way that it may give some coaches a pause before taking a job at Auburn and how beating Alabama is the litmus test there.

Right but all big jobs have litmus tests, always! That's what you coach for, I guess he is saying he could not beat Ohio for more than 5 years.

Does he want to be in a league with no rival ? Sounds like it.

Even the Mac if you go to Central Michigan u better best Western.

Legends And icons are made because of this.

If I was a coach I would welcome
The challenge but that's me, u can always coach again. It's a way to measure your skill and talent.
