Buddy's Pizza coming to Michigan football, basketball, hockey
Love buddy's but I prefer something a little thinner as a game snack.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Buddy’s Pizza has reached a deal with the University of Michigan to sell pizza at concession stands during football, basketball, and hockey games.
Buddy’s and U of M reached a five-year agreement that will last through the 2027-2028 athletic season. Starting this fall, fans can buy Buddy’s pizzas at Michigan Stadium, the Criser Center, and Yost Ice Arena.
Four-square pizzas will cost $15 and come in custom “Go Blue” boxes, according to Buddy’s. Fans can choose between pepperoni or classic cheese.
Each “Go Blue” box will include a $4 off coupon for future purchases at Buddy’s Pizza restaurants.
“We think Buddy’s Pizza, together with Michigan athletics, is a winning team, and we’re thrilled with the opportunity to bring our beloved original Detroit-style pizza to the fans of the Maize and Blue,” Buddy’s Pizza CEO Chris Tussing said. “Whether you’re already a devoted Buddy’s fan or someone eating our pizza for the first-time, we’re ready to make game day delicious.”
Buddy’s was founded more than 75 years ago in Detroit and has 22 locations in Michigan, including one at 3153 Ann Arbor-Saline Road in Ann Arbor.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring fans of Michigan athletics a favorite and iconic hometown brand like Buddy’s Pizza,” said Jennifer Cadicamo, vice president and GM of Michigan Sports Properties. “We each have our own proud and rich local histories, and we’re excited to experience this next chapter of our stories together.”
Huge buddy's fan. I understand wanting something more of a thinner/classic slice as stadium food.
Thankfully, it is stadium food, so after the first two games or so of trying to impress everyone, the buddy's pizza will become the thinner piece you want just from its stadium-ized lack of quality.
Definitely tough to maintain quality when it has to sit around for hours before the game.
yeah especially having it spend the night before in a hotel
deep dish pizza supremacy. I never want thin crust.
I'd prefer $1 Backroom slices on paper plates, with several shakes of self-serve seasonings, but Buddy's isn't a bad consolation

Sounds like something I'd feed to the cat.
Buddy's is fine as long as it's not this....
Come now, let's not let old recriminations fester in our hearts and let bygones be bygones, since after two consecutive conference championship seasons it's fair to say that we all lived happily Ever After
Nor this....
Actually, that would be kinda funny. In a “do you want fries with that” sorta way.
Compared to the price of a hotdog an any sporting venue I'd say $15 isn't to bad. 4 bucks off on your next Buddy's purchase makes it even better if your a Buddy's guy.
I'm not your guy, Pal!
Love Buddy Guy!
Especially with B.B. King
That man's Mama was right, he was Born To Play The Guitar.

I saw him years ago with Joe Cocker and The Fabulous Thunderbirds on the card. While the other two(especially Joe) were great Buddy stole the show.
A great blues guitarist.
This news has made me so happy. When seeing NTDP games in Plymouth, visiting Buddy's is a must. I'm glad to have this option inside Yost.
Detroit-style really is the best crust.
I agree 100%! The best. I don't like the 1" or more wide waste of good space on the pizza dough that could have sauce or toppings on it instead of just dry baked tough chewy crust that often has no taste. I always throw it away or give it to my wife who likes it for some reason.
The only thing I worry about with Buddy's is whether there is sufficient sauce. Since it is applied last, in a streak down the middle of each row of slices, it seems like it is sometimes lacking. I usually order extra sauce on my pizzas because some places just apply a small amount, which is a tragedy. See below - not enough sauce in my book, just a drizzle on top, that's it.
How long has Detroit pizza been around? The info above says Buddy's is 75 years old but how long has "Detroit pizza" been a thing?
I lived in Michigan for high school and college but it's only been the past few years that I noticed the phrase.
Is this style genuinely old or is it new marketing?
Since 1946. I've been to the original Buddy's and Loui's and they are definitely that old. Buddy's started expanding 10 or 20 years ago and it just took off from there once it started winning some national awards.

When mentioning Buddy’s and Loui’s don’t forget Shields. The original Shields was on Davison and Shields just around the corner from the first Buddy’s.
After Shields it was time to hit the bars on Jos. Campau. Good time in a world long gone.
NOBODY could launder $ better than Loui's, damn good pizza too.
it’s been around since the 1940s or so but the term “Detroit-Style Pizza” is from the 1990s and got popular as a term in the 2000s - 2010s.
Thanks. That's what I was looking to learn.
The first time I heard it, maybe a dozen years ago, I assumed it was simply a way to get more attention for square pizza.
My favorite ever pizzas at games were those small round one person pizzas they had in the 90s. I think they were from Pizza Hut. Which now that I think of it, those had crispy buttery crust kind of like Buddy's
not sure what kinda fuckery is happening to the internet but I definitely didn’t reply to your post, even though it where my post ended up
I miss the little pizzas and breadsticks they used to sell at the Target food court.
Boccie Ball n Boombas @ halftime?
Full contact croquet. With prizes, if you survive "The Final Hoop", as it will become known.
I'd post One Bite's pizza review of Buddy's in A2 but DP of BS is PNG here.
Anyways, it received a 7.5
Thanks101, I thought I posted this about 3 weeks ago. In fact I ate 2 corner pieces up in the Champions Club in Crisler amd found it quite tasty 😋
Thought I remembered one. Not sure why it was in there news again today. Maybe they finalized the agreement.
$15 for a four-square pizza (Buddy's at that) after 7 hours of tailgating seems like something I will look forward to. What a great way to soak up that long day of festivities.
I live in Florida where "great pizza" does not exist.
It's all about the water quality and how it impacts not only the dough but also the home made sauces and cheeses. FL's water tastes a bit like swamp and everything made with it tastes a bit funky.
I'm irrationally stoked about a Jet's pizza opening up near me in Florida.
