Brian Kelly Gone After Next Season?

Submitted by hart20 on

What do you guys think?

I'm thinking Brian Kelly is gone. Reasons:

1. Another 8-5 season this year. Improvement over Weis, but not good enough for ND.

2. Brian Kelly is a national joke now. Turning purple on TV all season long, taking shots at his players, not taking responsibility for poor performances, death of student filming practice, etc. All of that reflects poorly on ND.

3. Supposedly pissed off some very prominent alumni at the USF game this year. Apparently Kelly brushed them off and was very brash and rude with them and the alumni didn't take too kindly to that.

4. Most importantly, they'll be lucky to go 6-6 next season. They lose their top offensive threat in Floyd, maybe their #2 threat in Eifert, have huge QB questions, lose 3 starting OL, lose all of their starting secondary (2 CBs, 1 FS, 1 SS), lose a starting LB, lose a starting DE, lose their offensive coordinator and lose their quarterback's coach. Not the situation you want to be in when your job is on the line and you're facing a murderous schedule. They have to play at Michigan State, at Oklahoma, at Boston College and at USC. That's on top of travelling to Ireland for the  season opener against Navy and travelling to Soldier Field to take on Miami. We play them in South Bend, and they also play Stanford, BYU, Pitt, and Wake Forest at home. That schedule will destroy them.

FWIW, most of the posters over at NDNation want Kelly gone after next season and think that he'll be fired. Most are also resigned to their next season just being a placeholder until they can hire a new coach.

Frankly, I love this turmoil and ineptitude at Notre Dame. It's always entertaining to watch and rejoice in.

Based on their coaching changes over the past few years after the departure of Lou (one step ahead of the NCAA) Holtz , he will get 5 years at least

Coach            Years           Record   Number of Years at ND

Davies:         1997-2001      35-25          5 years

Willingham:  2002-2005      21-15           3 years

Weiss:           2005-2009      35-27          5 years

Kelly:              2010-???         16-10        ?????

He has a higher winning percentage than any of the previous 3 coaches (.615 versus .583 for Willingham and Davies)....

weis was also 21-15 at one point and got an extra three years.  If kelly starts out 5-5 next year, he'll also be 21-15, and at that time I shall be waiting with bated breath for the inevitable 'vote of confidence' to cement ND's hypocrisy/racism.

Im suprised some of you think he might be fired. His last recruiting class he hauled in probably one of the best if not the best DL classes, this season he might pull off one of the best DB classes. He has Darby and Shepard and they think they are getting Shumate and Wright who are both maybe just as good.

The message boards in south Bend are giving thier redhsirt freshmans Golston the heisman already and his high school highlights looked pretty good. they also have a reciever coming in next class that has flew up the charts on every recruiting site and some have him listed as the second best in the class and thats saying alot when Dorial is 1. I think he is Tee Shapards cousin.

I did a little research and they have 16 or 17 recruits and can probably take 23-24. The players they still have left on the board that are possibly goign to ND is this Shumate who is rated very high and Wright who we all know is rated very high. Along with a ton of other 4-5 star guys.

I also just read where Tee and Darby are not waiverling like some think. Right now I would say their class is more talented and front loaded with talent and we have them in the depth department but they still have a lot of talent on the board that seem to be favoring ND.

But like Weis........ What are you gonna do with it??
