Making the rounds.    I

Making the rounds.

I know Rich Rod had numerous public appearances, but I do not remember him coming to BHCC before. Is Hoke going to more places to interact and smooth over the Alums?

I don't find it odd, but I do think Dave Brandon is doing everything possible to make this transition as positive and smooth as possible. This is a good thing, it just makes me mad at Bill Martin and sad for RR.

I'd like to know how

I'd like to know how comfortable Denard and Molk are snapping/taking snaps under center.

I'd also like to hear his thoughts about Denards lack of scrambling last year, and with less designed runs how he's going to get Denard to scramble more, and how okay he is with riding those scrambles as a big part of the offense.

Without having the knowledge

Without having the knowledge to talk football specifics with someone like Hoke I would probably ask him if he is seriously considering helmet stickers and then try to discourage him from doing that.

This^^^

A thousand times over. I couldn't hold an in-depth conversation with Hoke either, but this is a perfect question.

I'm really hoping he doesn't; my hope is that he's more on the Carr model for helmets than the Bo model.

Jesus the dude has a full

Jesus the dude has a full schedule of commitments.  He's like the frickin president with that schedule.  I'm exhausted just thinking about putting in the kind of grueling hours these college coaches endure.

I like it, it's worked very well for Doug Marrone at SU at re-establishing recruiting and the fanbase and alumni base in NY state.

Seeing and hearing the coach goes a long way to building relationships with fans, coaches, donors, etc.

Yes Sir.

With the exception of relating it to the last staff, that's a great question. Relating it to the last staff will leave the question unanswered. Just leave it open: "What's the biggest WTF moment?".

Every transition has one and the answers are usually pretty funny.

I sure hope Hoke makes it out

I sure hope Hoke makes it out to LA at some point. When RR started he came out and met with the Alumni Association out here and it was great. The fact that Hoke has been in CA the last few years makes that even more possible. There are a lot of Alumni out here who would love to meet him.

NY

Ditto that comment, but on the opposite coast.  RR came out to NY in an alumni club sponsored event, and I had to miss it for a work committment.  I heard he was great.  I would be psyched to see Hoke speak in person.

NY isn't one of Michigan's

NY isn't one of Michigan's top recruiting bases.  As a new coach, he'd have been better served with spending more focus on his Michigan ties, which were already strained, than by going out of state first.

Those speaking engagements

Those speaking engagements aren't related to recruiting.  They're more about meeting and greeting alums and getting them on board.  We have a lot of alumni in NY, so Hoke will probably stop by the M-Club there at some point.

They're for a multitude of

They're for a multitude of reasons.  You bet that it will have an effect on showing a commitment to MI first over out-of-state, which was a perception inside the state that RR couldn't shake,.

I disagree

There are certain events that are for recruiting, certain events that are for alumni relations and certain events that are "a multitude of reasons."

The RR speaking engagement in NY was purely for alumni relations which are important.  For one, the event was promoted throughthe alumni club of NY - no recruits on that list.  Second, from what I am told by the 10+ people I know who attended, it was almost ENTIRELY attended by alum.

While I agree that RR unfortunately was saddles with a perception that he did not have enough of a committment "in-state," going out and meeting alumni in an area that has one of the largest and most prosperous collection of alum is never a bad idea.  Also, RR did several speaking engagements in-state before his NY appearance.

In short, I think that there is nothing wrong with a coach coming to speak to groups of out of state alum.  And, it is likely that said coach would have (RR) or will (Hoke) combine the out-of-town engagements with recruiting trips so as to most efficiently use his already strained time.

I also disagree. This event

I also disagree. This event was purely for alumni - you had to buy tickets ahead of time through the Alumni Assoc. Recruiting is a big part of college football, but so is selling yourself to the people who support you. NY might not be a big recruiting ground, but it's a major hub of alumni with enough money to make a donation.

He also did a number of these in Michigan, Ohio and Chicago. So it's not like any of your post was based in fact.

I attended the RichRod

I attended the RichRod speaking engagement in New York and it was open to UMich Alumni Association Members only. Bill Martin spoke, LaMarr Woodley gave a few minute speech and RR did a 20 minute or so spiel...the speeches were capped off with a highlight video and The Victors.

The whole thing was geared to be a RR meet and greet and that's exactly what they did. Gathering alumni support is really important to the university as well as the athletic department and makes a big impact on the fiscal budget.

All that said, I'd love to have Hoke out east as well...

Wow. Greatest speech of all

Wow. Greatest speech of all time. Brady Hoke was one of the best speakers I have ever seen. Made alumni happy (made fun of certain ones i.e. Hanlon, Betts, Leach).

He made fun of RR a lot! and I mean a lot. He said the spread was a joke, Denard is doing very very well (he used to do it in HS). He said the old staff didn't do well (he tried his hardest to say that they loved M but were not cut out for this job). He basically said watch out (defense is tough but he said linebacker will not be a problem).

Awesome speech, I saw some guy recording so I hope that makes it here.

Go Blue!

How about on the football

How about on the football field. Offense was good last year, the best Michigan has had. The defense sucked yes. Either way, I dont give a shit how bad the previous coach was it is classless for the new coach and the AD to make fun of him. There was no need to mention RR during this event, yet they used it as a punchline. They both are assholes for that.

The offense was no good last

The offense was no good last year against any team with a pulse on defense.  You and I both know that was true.

Well did Brady Hoke call the spread a joke, or did he not? In your previous post it seemed like that was a quote.

Negging Brady Hoke.

Brandon and Hoke making fun of RR makes me so fucking angry.  It's beyond classless, not to mention idiocy - real Brady, that spread worked really poorly last year... fucking clown.

I was there too and to say

I was there too and to say that Hoke and DB made fun of RR "a lot" is not accurate.  You definitely "over exaggerated" that.

Can we just leave the "making fun" part out whether or not it happened.

Heat up the forum on a post-winter, winters day

You wanna see a thread blow up? Post a new one called "Report on Hoke's appearance at BHCC" or something like that.  Then tell everyone what you saw and heard.  I'd be willing to bet it blows through 200 comments before midnight.  Lots of potentially combustible discussion points would definitely grow from it.

If true, completely

If true, completely disappointing, and completely classless.

I would expect better from "Michigan Men".

Let me clarify by saying he

Let me clarify by saying he didn't make fun of RR by name just by referencing the spread and defense and the illinois game last year.

Hold on

Before everyone has a fit about how classless it is to "make fun of" the previous regime - which, yes, of course - why don't we take breath and realize nobody here knows what was actually said.  Michigan Student's account of the speech was pretty sloppy and vague, nothing to start (or continue) crucifying Brandon over.

Especially because

Especially because MGraceBlue, who was also there, already contradicts Michigan Student's interpretation.
