Both Michigan Tennis Teams beat OSU to win B10 Tourney!

I know someone posted something yesterday about this occuring today, but figured that a double tournament/banner win over OSU in a single day deserved a separate post. This is a pretty amazing feat given OSU is ranked above M for both (women's they are #10 to M #20, men #4 to M #7) so two upsets.

The M ladies won first by taking the doubles point (won two matches, lost one) and then finishing out with 3 singles wins in pretty convincing fashion for a score of 4-0. This was probably a bigger upset than the men's win given the larger disparity in rankings and avenges a close loss in the regular season to the Bucks that went 4-3 in their favor. Win when it matters! Nice work ladies!

The men took a bit longer and actually lost the doubles point, starting singles play down one point which didn't bode well for the underdogs. M then won 3 singles matches in straight sets and lost one to make the score 3-2, leaving two contests going into a third set to decide the match. M just needed to win one of them and both had been fairly even through the first two sets, so a tight match this far. Styler broke serve on his opponent about midway through the third set and was able to hold serve and win his match up and this the match 4-2 (in college tennis they typically stop playing unfinished match ups once the match is decided, the other match ended at 3-3, so would have been a nailbiter if we lost this one). The men's team had split their two earlier regular season meetings with a 4-0 win and a 4-1 loss, so this was a runner match for the banner and kudoes to them for pulling it off. Nice work gents.

OSU can suck two fuzzy green ones today, and that makes me very happy.

Both teams will be off to the NCAA tourney starting next week.

I don’t pay much attention at all to college tennis, but this post put a smile on my face.  Always a pleasure to beat the Bucks, which we seem to have done in a lot of sports this year.
