Submitted by manchild56 on

2/27/2012 - Outfielder Michael O'Neill earned the Big Ten Conference's Co-Player of the Week after going 8-for-15 (.533) with five doubles, three RBI and five stolen bases in a four-game series with Iona. On the year, O'Neill leads the team with a .464 batting average and a Big Ten-leading six doubles. He also is tied for the Big Ten and Michigan lead with junior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) with seven stolen bases. This is O'Neill's first Big Ten Player of the Week honor and first for Michigan since Biondi did the trick on April 19, 2010.

Congratulations to Mike O'Neill, a great kid who I got to know through a high school classroom on his Player of the Week honor.  He was a student in my chemistry class in Powell, Ohio a suburb 20 minutes north of Columbus.  A great young man who is deserving of this recognition.  By the way most of you may know his uncle, Paul O'Neill a one time Yankees outfielder.
