Athletic Profile of Rashan Gary
Good feature on Rashan over at the Athletic. Link ($) is here for those with a subscription.
The most interesting bit of information is that Rashan has recently started to wear contacts while playing football. Meaning, the #1 overall recruit from the 2016 class has been blindly pawing at the QB his entire football career.
Bring on the Heisman-hype train!

Now I'm confused. Which guy is that wearing number three?

Would eye surgery be better here? I don't know how the hell he did that with glasses... If you are a runner with glasses on, you immediately feel the difference with them off.

He didn’t. He played without glasses or contacts, which seems even more difficult

Lasik isn't for everyone, plus the flap left over can be dislodged and cause problems in rough activities. If he got prk, It'd have been a longer and more painful recovery . Let him try contacts for a while to see what works best.

I played goalie in HS Hockey and didn't wear contacts... needles to say, I wasn't very good. I can only imagine how good I could have been if I actually saw the puck from more than 20 feet out. That said, I'd be afraid if I was an opposing QB now that Rashan has perfect vision!

As I get older and my eyes get worse, it's getting harder and harder to catch a fucking pass. Most guys look at their blade, like it's the stick's fault, but I can't even see that clearly in front of my face. I need to get contacts or quit playing :/

Get contacts, never quit!
As I got older, I stopped playing goal and played forward in adult/beer leagues. I'd love to get in the net, just one more time, to see what I could do, even if it is 20 years since I played there.

He must not consider it too big of a deal if he's been playing without them all these years.

Seems like he's managed kinda Ok, I guess...

Have to love it when guys try to pay wall stuff that came from a well publicised interview all over the webs 2 weeks ago.

In their defense, they reference the interview you linked by Rashan regarding the new contacts while playing but that's just a small part of the profile. The whole article goes more in-depth talking about his visit back home during the summer, his academics, quotes from his mom and etc.
I was just highlighting that as the thing I found most interesting - which was that he has been playing football with any optical aids. I wear glasses, so the first few minutes of every morning is a blurry mess. I can't imagine trying to maneuver around offensive linemen, tackling a QB/RB, and other DE responsibilities.
All in all, The Athletic has really good content and writers across all the major sports, with an easy to use app. I got my annual subscription for $25 and I think it's been worth every penny. (My $0.02)
