I went out to the link, and there was nothing (on my iPad, at least) but a title banner.  This seems about right in terms of a hollow message from the impoverished folks in the AD.  I’ve been shoveling money their way for nigh on 50 years, and I can not remember a single instance where they showed any interest about me, other than did the check clear or was the credit card accepted.  They have shamelessly exploited my sense of tribal affiliation and given me smaller seats, PSL/Ds, football games going from 2 1/2 hours to 4, basketball gong show diversions, worse hockey seating, ad infinitum.  This was made clear to me when they sent me a letter asking me to donate my season ticket money ‘for the cause’, when their cause includes no money for the athletes and bloated payrolls everywhere else in the AD.

I love my Michigan degree, I earned it, I love my fellow tribe members, but I certainly don’t want to hear the AD cry ‘impoverishment’ when they’ve squeezed me for longer than most of you have been alive, and the athletes still get nothing.

Now I sound like that nut job announcer in the movie ‘Network”, to wit: “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore”

Yep it is a thinly veiled fundraising campaign. Unsurprising but still disappointing.

And it isn't just Athletic Departments that should have their tails between their legs. Schools should be ashamed for not tapping endowments and continuing to try to money grab from students any way they can. If not now, when?

This isn't a whim. It is a pandemic that is going to affect the whole country for the better part of 2 years.

If the endowment can't be utilized to help support needs in a time like this, then it is a counterproductive asset and universities should stop stockpiling cash for a rainy day for which they can never actually utilize funds.

FFS people....

If I give the university $1,000,000 and I tell them how it is to be used..... that's how it has to be used....

this is how endowment funds work.  The university doesn't have free reign to use those funds as they see fit.
