#6 W Swim crushes #13 Indiana; M Swim's 55-win streak ends

It wasn't going to last forever.

If a team was going to get the Michigan Men, it was going to be this year most likely and it was going to be Indiana, the only B1G team that has ever stood a test to Michigan's dominant program historically.

Michigan lost some of the their best swimmers to graduation in Dylan Bosch, Anders Lie Nielsen and Matt McNamara to name a few.

Indiana on the other hand returns basically all of their major point getters from last season.

Michigan was the lower ranked team in a meet against a B1G opponent today, #12 against #5 Indiana. Rare.

Indiana won the meet, 167-133. They took 13 of 16 events, which ultimately decided the meet. It was fairly close before both teams broke into triple digits, as Michigan had the deficit to 10 at one point. Head coach Mike Bottom said that we got out-touched five or six times. If Michigan touched in more of those, it could've come down to the last relay.

Michigan's 55-dual meet winning streak comes to an end. A streak that began 7 seasons ago, on January 15th, 2011. The Men's first loss in 2,190 days.

A truly incredible run that included an NCAA National Championship in 2013 (the program's 19th), two more NCAA trophy finishes in the Top-4, 6 B1G Championships, and two senior classes that never lost a meet.

The Men are still really good. It should come down to these two teams again at the B1G Championships in March.

The Women's team, however, is destroying people right now.

They're ranked #6, also coached by Mike Bottom and are starting to take the form the Men have under Coach Bottom.

The #6 Michigan Women took on the #13 Indiana women today, as well.

Michigan took 12 of 16 events in a meet that was never close. Michigan led from the first race to the last one.

1-2-3, 1-3-4 finishes were very common. Siobhán Haughey--who dominated the B1G Championships last year as a Freshman--won 3 events, while Yirong Bi, Clara Smiddy and Vanessa Krause won two each.

Yirong Bi had the most impressive performance of both meets as she blew out the entire field in 1,000-yard Freestyle. She won the event and it took almost 15 seconds before anyone else touched.

This is a team that returns nearly everyone. Not only do I think we have the best shot to repeat as B1G Champions, but I also think we have a great shot at advancing up the podium from last season's Top-4 finish and ascend to the top, winning the National Championship.

Both Michigan teams are 3-1 on the season. They return home to face Ohio State (#20 Men/#21 Women) next Friday at 6pm.
