4th Down

Submitted by worstever on October 19th, 2019 at 9:18 PM

Can somebody please explain to me how a college coach can not understand 4th down probability by field position? There are several well researched studies completed on the matter yet Jimbo keeps punting from the opponents side of the 50...

I fear that the failure to go for it on that first one early in the game is going to haunt Jim. There's no reason, between some crap calls and the refs, that we should not be completely in this game at the moment.

Not going for it on 4th and 1. Then you attempt a 58 yarder on 4th and make-able, down 14 with less than a minute left when you don't get the ball first, and to make it even dumber you don't use Nordin.

I think Harbaugh is just legit dumb. I don't think there's any other explanation.

I hated the 58 yard FG attempt but I liked it far better than lining Shea under the OG and direct snapping it to the RB. That was one of the dumbest plays all year and believe me, there's been plenty of those

Should have went for it on both.

Punt in the end zone... & no chance on FG.

Nordin isn't an option either. He would miss anyway.

Get some fucking balls Harbaugh.

You could say it’s 4th down on Harbaugh tenure as Michigan coach. Maybe he’ll punt, kick an impossible field goal, or run Charbonett into slanting lines and crashing linebackers…

huh? Huh? Ok I can see myself out.

That last minute was literally the two worst game situation coaches battling for the worst use of time and field position.

JH fucks up when out of four options:

1. Go for 4th down

2. Punt and with 3 time outs try to pin PSU and get the ball back around midfield

3. Attempt a FG with a guy that can at least get that distance

4. Attempt a FG with a guy with 48-50 yard range

JH selects #4

Then Frames comes in at the 40 and 3 time outs. They complete a pass short of the sticks and Frames lets nearly 30 seconds elapse before using a time out.

Then after an incompletion and a failed run, Frames could have let the clock run out, or let it run down to 5 seconds or so, call time out and try a Hail Mary.

Instead PSUs moron calls timeout with :21 left forcing himself to punt.

Frames and JH are literally the worst game situation coaches I have ever seen.

4th down at that point should be a deep pass down the field if you are thinking of a long ass fg with your short range kicker. Worse case scenario is a deep int.

Harbaugh has CTE. We have to get some high IQ coaches into the program. Enough with the meat and potatoes gus
