2022 LB Tyler Martin committing this Friday

Likely to Michigan considering that the staff has prioritized him heavily and the crystal balls have been rolling in.

He’s ranked as a 4 star in composite but only a 85 grade on 247 which would put him in middling 3 star category. At 6’3 245lbs he’s more in the mold of an old school ILB (possibly a Ben Mason or VanSumeran comparison) but according to EJ Holland he still moves well at that size. If he continues to grow, he may end up on the DL.

Sounds like the type of player who is under scouted and will be a big riser in the future. Recruiting momentum is starting to rain in for OSU and PSU for the 2022 class so would love to see us get some going. Would love to see us lock down the Michigan recruits like we are doing for the MA recruits.

Momentum IS coming for M in the 2020 class.

Steve Lorenz also put in a CB for 2022 TE Marlin Klein today (AND Donovan Edwards for 2021 - --upvote goblue76 below).  Klein is a German kid playing for a small school in GA that - at 6'6" 220# - the staff believes is the Thomas Fidone or Theo Johnson of the class of 2022 (see - ultra athletic kid that rockets up the rankings) - except we might get this one...  I am pretty sure he was on campus this weekend and I would guess he "bumped into" Franz and/or Herr Welschof while in town for the good word.

Also EJ Holland at Rivals has hinted about a silent (or pending) commit that most guess is one of the two 2022 (top 75 overall) speedy WRs from Illinois.

Unlike 2021 - M seems to be in on a LOT of top kids at this stage which could mean slower commits.  By my non-expert analysis M is leading or tied near the top for 4 kids in the current 247 Composite top 100 in 2022 (#3,8,44,69) and as in the serious mix for 8 others (#10,13,35,52, 86,91,93,99).  M also probably leads for #102, 129, 147, 162 and maybe 151.  For comparison - current commit VanSumeren is 221 and Tyler Martin is 271.

As for OSU and PSU.

OSU --- They are OSU.  It would be nice to get to the point that we have "gimmees" in-state like OSU.  Of the six OSU 2022 commits, 4 are in state -- One 5* and others 4*.

PSU - PSU NEEDS a good 2022 class as 2021 is looking weak.  They just got a  4* 2022 OT that M was looking at and beat M for the 2022 WR from Ohio in the top 250.  (FYI - both of the IL WRs M leads for are top 75 kids..)  As for 2021..... Only 13 current commits and 4 of their top 8 are MI kids of which M really "lost" the safety Reed.  PSU currently have ZERO of the top 10 in PA committed.  Seven are already going elsewhere and near 5* OT and former M target Nolan Rucci is assumed to commit to Wisconsin today.live on CBS.  Of the 2 remaining top 10 kids, PSU has a shot with only one, (granted a top 60 safety) and they even lost the #2 overall Juco kid from their "feeder" Lackawanna JC in PA to Georgia.  It appears that Coach Franklin spent too much time "working to make the jump to an elite program" rather than recruiting.

Interesting side note: Aquaman just put a crystal ball in for Donovan Edwards to the good guys.  Only 1 ball so not new thread worthy. Not that I could anyways since I still have my training wheels on (being below 100 Mgopoints and all).

Michigan probably won’t be getting anymore new recruits as who wants to play at a school with clear division between the president and the athletic department.  The gap will only widen between UM and OSU and Michigan will start not being able to beat PSU and Wisconsin ever again either.
