2018 BIG Champs: Women's Tennis

Shoutout to the Women's tennis team. They just beat the favorites (Northwestern) in the finals of the BIG Tournament 4-3. Sophomore Chiara Lommer came back after falling down a break early in the 3rd set to clinch the match for the Wolverines.

Yet another big 10 championship, what an incredible year for Michigan sports! As an aside, I am shocked at just how few fans were attending the last point of the final match to determine the big 10 championship. There are routinely more fans at high school tennis events; not judging but just an odd sight to see.

An EPIC comeback just adds more fuel to this rivalry. For those who don't know, Northwestern is our top rival in W Tennis.

For many years we'd get to the tournament title match and just come up short to Northwestern. We've been to the tournament title match 14 years in a row iirc.

Couple weeks ago Northwestern beat us at the VTC in a heartbreaker, 4-3. Came down to the very end and they finished undefeated and we had one loss in the league, giving them the regular season title.

Outstanding job by Coach Bernstein. We may not host but I don't think anyone wants this team as a regional 2 seed in their bracket.

Northwestern earned the doubles point with wins at 1 and 3 doubles. Michigan fought back with wins at 3 singles (Bri Minor) and 4 singles (Alyvia Jones). Northwestern fought back with wins at 5 and 6 singles. Kate Fahey came up big to tie the match with a third set victory at 1 singles setting the stage for Lommer's comeback at 2 singles. Go Blue!
