MGoTarot Reading: Purdue 2023

MGoTarot is a fun predictive tool that I started after the Covid season to see if the cards were more interesting than the football. Thus began one of the great runs of Michigan football. The tarot card readings turned out to be amazingly accurate and insightful in revealing the outcomes and energies of each game.

The approach is a standard 3 card spread showing elements of the past, the present, and the future outcome. Each card tells a story and together they form a larger story based on their positions. I do the reading within 24 hours of the game for accuracy. The method is to shuffle the cards while singing the Victors. I then lay out all the cards face down in a line and select 3 with my eyes closed using my off hand. This process helps to double randomize the deck so I am not selecting the same cards repeatedly like a poorly shuffled deck of Uno. I like to use the Salvador Dali Deck because it puts a chaotic modernist/art history twist on the traditional 78 card Rider-Waite Deck. Plus the cards have an oil-paint smell that is totally groovy.

The interesting thing about Tarot is that a familiar card can take on a new identity depending on timing and placement. This is the third time we have seen the Judgment Card this season. Against Bowling Green it was reassuring after the 3 interception Tower Card moment. Later it showed nobody was looking past Indiana. Looking back on Michigan State and two weeks of yacking and complaining, the Judgment Card is now taking on its most literal meaning. Michigan has faced a mountain of judgment without a way to answer on the field. The nice thing about this card is that it represents a fresh start for those entombed as they are summoned by the trumpet of resurrection. Normally, I consider the faces in the margins to be the Michigan Collective that sometimes spends too much time complaining about personnel or play calling or grumping at teenagers. In this case it is the critical faces of the sports media complex and the nancies of the Big Ten that have no legitimate answer to the historical potency of this Michigan Team. For Michigan their resurrection from the bye week will be an opportunity to put the past behind them and focus anew on defeating the final four opponents.

How do we know they are just simply jealous of #2 Michigan? Going into the Purdue game we are greeted by the strong woman archetype of the Queen of Discs. This is not GRRRLLL Power like Captain Marvel, St. Joan of Arc, or Rey Palpatine-Skywalker. It is not a woman that is acting like a manly warrior king. This is the real feminine power of grace and creation and nurturing. Instead of yelling and getting nasty, she represents the proper method quieting critics. She is a talented beautiful provider in a catty judgmental world. Similar to the Magician Card from MSU, The Queen of Discs is in a Sainte Chappelle of flowers creating her own magic and destiny. She is not listening to the devil in her ear. She has enough confidence in her abilities and self respect to understand the current situation and rise above.

This season Michigan has been all business and has had little need for the emotion represented by the Cups. Finally for the Purdue outcome Michigan has found that emotion in the Nine of Cups. This is an expression of wish fulfillment, joy, and satisfaction. Living well is the best revenge and there should be plenty to celebrate as Michigan makes it quite clear that they can win big without sign stealing. Looking deeper at the card we see an empty vessel above the figure. Michigan is not bringing any additional baggage except a will to joyfully dominate. The figure is also holding a blank slate or tablet. This means the future is undetermined and can be what we make of it. Counting out those cups as weeks, it should be noted that it is 9 weeks until the National Championship game on January 8. On the cusp of completion and the tenth Cup, Michigan is on pace to do what is necessary to vex those faces in the margin and achieve an emotional victory over all the petty naysayers.

Hark! 9 of cups! Oh how this doth quicken and liven my heart!

With steely, queenly grace Michigan puts quibbling, quivering Judgment firmly in the rear view mirror.

Looking forward.

Go Blue! Go boldly forward and do what you do.
