MGoTarot Reading: Nebraska 2023

MGoTarot is a fun predictive tool that I started after the Covid season to see if the cards were more interesting than the football. Thus began one of the great runs of Michigan football. The tarot card readings turned out to be amazingly accurate and insightful in revealing the outcomes and energies of each game.

The approach is a standard 3 card spread showing elements of the past, the present, and the future outcome. I do the reading within 24 hours of the game for accuracy. The method is to shuffle the cards while singing the Victors. I then lay out all the cards face down in a line and select 3 with my eyes closed using my off hand. This process helps to double randomize the deck so I am not selecting the same cards repeatedly like a poorly shuffled deck of Uno. I like to use the Salvador Dali Deck because it puts a chaotic modernist/art history twist on the traditional 78 card Rider-Waite Deck. Plus the cards have an oil-paint smell that is totally groovy.

After the Rutgers win, Michigan is riding high and we see the return of the King of Wands. We last saw him a few weeks ago as the outcome for the UNLV game. At that time it represented confidence and passion which is now restored after the first conference win against Rutgers. Another aspect of this card is that he is a inspirational leader without distraction. This shows Michigan has gotten out of the feels, and uncertainty of the previous games and are now focused on their vision of another Big Ten Championship.

Going to Nebraska, Michigan is having their moment of zen with the Temperance Card. This is our first 2023 visit from a nekkid lady card. The best part is that she actually exists! This design was a Dali original based off his muse, Amanda Lear. Traditionally, the Temperance Card is all about enjoying that enlightened awareness after a trying moment of darkness and doubt. Having survived both a Tower and Hanged Man moment, Michigan can pocket that experience for later down the road. Things are back on track and this is a chance to take what they have learned and dominate, but with all things in measure.

This is their first road game and allows Michigan to move beyond the comfort of home with the Knight of Swords. The knight atop the trophy is a great metaphor for this new adventure awaiting the team. A late afternoon road game in Lincoln is a nice warm up for going to Spartan Stadium or Penn State. The Knight of Swords is all about getting outside your comfort zone, physically and especially mentally. You do not want to end up the figure atop the Ryder Cup trophy waiting to be placed on somebody else’s mantle. The Knight of Swords needs to get off his dish and get into the action. It may not be the most satisfying win, but lessons will be learned for future challenges.
