06/21/2018 - 1:52am I know nothing about this…

I know nothing about this particular kid, or really football recruiting in general, but what seems crazy to me is the #5 player in Ohio being ranked outside the top-300 nationally. Even with an even distribution among every state, 5th in Ohio should be top-250, and obviously that's not the case since like half of the states are worthless, whereas Ohio is pretty talent rich. I know these services tend to overrate The South because that's where their bread is buttered, but geez.

04/25/2018 - 1:19pm And yet here we are. Betting

And yet here we are. Betting I still won't have heard of him if I go to bed after the first round of the Draft.

04/24/2018 - 11:48pm If it helps Isaiah Moss,

If it helps Isaiah Moss, Juwan Morgan, Bruno Fernando, James Copeland, and James Palmer make their decision: I have no idea who the hell they are. That probably bodes poorly for them.

04/16/2018 - 6:25pm My big takeaway was that

My big takeaway was that Minnesota made a GREAT choice moving their Spring Game up to Thursday instead of sticking with Saturday.

04/12/2018 - 5:33pm The restriction that you're

The restriction that you're thinking of is that 18/19 year old players aren't allowed to play in the AHL if they were drafted out of the CHL. There are no restrictions on playing in the NHL.

His scholarship is still good if he ever wants to finish his education.

Nobody seemed to have a problem with it when Michigan grabbed Marody a year early from Sioux Falls after Dylan Larkin signed with the Wings. Why is this any different?

Is this the first commit to reference a dril tweet?

(Football only, of course. I'm sure Novak and Douglass did all the time)

03/27/2018 - 6:31pm The finalists for the award

The finalists for the award all qualify automatically by either being named their conference's coach of the year, or by qualifying for the Frozen Four. York was Hockey East coach of the year this year. Pearson wouldn't have been a finalist if Michigan lost to BU last weekend.

03/27/2018 - 4:14pm I had heard that the Celtics

I had heard that the Celtics took a run at hiring Beilein in 2013 after the run to the national title game. Agreed that he was much better suited for the college game, and certainly happy he stayed where he was.

03/18/2018 - 1:59am They don't want teams playing

They don't want teams playing three tough games and gassing themselves for the NCAA Tournament the following week.

03/16/2018 - 12:41pm Honestly, your child's

Honestly, your child's kindergarten teacher will thank you. The September cut-off is really early, especially for boys, and there would be a lot of benefit to pushing it back a couple months.

As for recruiting, it always amazes me how little football seems to take birth year into account compared to a sport like hockey where it is a major, major factor. Especially since it probably plays an even bigger role in football.

The reason is that he never held a job higher than position coach prior to being hired by Minnesota and was a miserable, catastrophic failure with the Gophers.

02/12/2018 - 10:29pm All those people watching in

All those people watching in 2010 and the first night the NHL came back after the Olympics, ratings on NBCSN were......slightly less than they normally were.

This isn't a new thing. The NHL went to four Olympics and they were a major pain to the NHL while providing absolutely nothing in return.

01/17/2018 - 12:28pm They make pennies on

They make pennies on advertising.....which is they're making the change.

100% agree that Livers is a better all-around player than Tim Duncan.

That's actually referred to as the old ironwort bag.

12/13/2017 - 9:33pm Does the water polo coach at

Does the water polo coach at Michigan make $7M per year like Harbaugh does?

I'm sure it would be pretty easy to figure out if people weren't intentionally obtuse about it.

Patterson probably told Herm that he wants to play for the Devils, and Herm, as a Christian, told him he shouldn't do that.

True story: PJ's wife does commercials for a car dealership out here in Minnesota.

I'm pretty sure the answer to all of these questions is no.

10/04/2017 - 11:25am Let's see a list of felonies

Let's see a list of felonies committed by North Texas football players and then we'll decide who is really mean.

09/27/2017 - 4:01pm I'll believe Louisville won't

I'll believe Louisville won't have a basketball program when I see it.

Remember when people said Penn State was going to have to drop their football program and the university might even lose accreditation because of the Sandusky scandal? It's been less than six years since Sandusky was first arrested, and you'd be hard-pressed to find any remaining effect.

North Carolina was supposed to be buried by their academic scandal. It's had no effect on them.

Both of those scandals were many, many times worse than what Louisville did. As long as Louisville can put together enough money to fight the NCAA every step of the way, they'll be fine.

Hate to be the guy that points out typos in an otherwise well-written piece, but Punt accidentally typed a 'j' instead of an 'h' in the final sentence of the penultimate full paragraph.

This is true, though Red did have a #88 jersey printed up for Eric Lindros that Lindros would have worn had he come to Michigan.

08/08/2017 - 2:31am Hey, or maybe they could just

Hey, or maybe they could just wear purple instead.

07/12/2017 - 12:43am Last scholarship player from

Last scholarship player from Minnesota was Josh Langfeld. Third strong walk-on goalie Mike Mayhew was from Minnesota and Jack Johnson sometimes listed Faribault(home of Shattuck-St. Mary's) as one of three or four different places he was from.

The mostt recent transfer was Morgan Ward, who spent two years at Army before playing for Michigan 2005-2007.

EDIT: Actually, defenseman Adam Dunlap played three games for Michigan in 05-06 and is both from Minnesota and a transfer after starting his career at BU.

05/22/2017 - 3:54pm I don't know if this is true

I don't know if this is true or just urban legend, but I heard the year after the book and all the publicity from this, Gilman ended up ditching that style and going back to yelling.

05/05/2017 - 10:23pm He hosts a fishing show in

He hosts a fishing show in Canada.

Also, his son was a fifth round draft pick in the WHL Bantam Draft on Thursday. He'll be a kid that's on Michigan's radar.

05/05/2017 - 10:34am Non-conference dates I've

Non-conference dates I've seen so far:

Nov. 3-4 vs. Ferris State

Feb. 23-24 vs. Arizona State

Great Lakes Invitational(Bowling Green is fourth team, date won't be determined until NHL and NBA schedules come out)

05/05/2017 - 10:28am Home-and-homes are cheaper

Home-and-homes are cheaper because neither team needs a hotel.

05/01/2017 - 10:01am I love the hockey model and

I love the hockey model and for the life of me can't figure out why the NBA doesn't utilize it. That said, I'm not sure it's right for football.

When would you draft players? For better or worse, the NFL Draft is a huge business and it is largely because they're drafting a) familiar names that people have been able to watch on TV and b) players that coud potentially help a team immediately. If they start drafting guys that have never played a down of college football there's going to be a lot more guesswork and misses and a lot less familiarity for the average fan.

04/27/2017 - 11:15am "Their best performance" was

"Their best performance" was getting blown out 4-0 in the first period and riding score effects to a nominal edge in attempts?

04/18/2017 - 3:33pm "Turning the lights on" isn't

"Turning the lights on" isn't cheap when you consider all the costs of arena set-up and staffing/running a game day operation. Plus, there are like a billion little requirements the NCAA expects a venue to do, and of course, the venue assumes all those costs.

It adds up pretty quick, and when you only have maybe 500 people there like Toledo did, you don't make it back.

04/18/2017 - 2:33pm Fargo/Sioux Falls and

Fargo/Sioux Falls and Allentown were the only "western" bids submitted.

Toledo once had a new arena and were looking to fill dates with anything so they got an NCAA hockey regional and they absolutely lost their ass on the deal. They'll never bid again. Now it's Allentown's turn with their new arena.

04/10/2017 - 12:39pm Barely. I don't think it was

Barely. I don't think it was a given he even should have been invited back to the NTDP after the past two years. Maybe it works out, but I don't think there's much to get excited about over the hire.

04/05/2017 - 12:22pm I had forgotten about that

I had forgotten about that time Michigan had to wear maternity shorts.

03/22/2017 - 4:11pm Well, it was actually a minor

Well, it was actually a minor scandal out here in Minnesota when one of the newspapers reported that lil Ricky Pitino wasn't filling up his rental cars before returning them like Harbaugh: http://www.startribune.com/pitino-far-exceeded-budget-for-private-jet-travel-university-of-minnesota-audit-finds/378906491/

03/21/2017 - 12:50pm Bielfeldt had serious

Bielfeldt had serious interest from Illinois at the time. Nance Jr's offers were so weak that there was at least some thought at the time that he'd maybe even take a walk-on spot at Michigan if he didn't get the offer.

I know it's not always that simple, and maybe Nance Jr doesn't blow up at Michigan, or maybe somebody else doesn't come, but it's crazy to think about potentially having another NBA rotation player on the team with Burke-Hardaway-Stauskas-Levert-McGary.

Michigan went really hard after Blueitt prior to his initial commitment to UCLA. Then he backed out on UCLA and re-opened his recruiting and Michigan wasn't super involved the second time around. I think by that time they had moved on to Devin Booker and James Blackmon Jr(who both obviously didn't work out)

03/21/2017 - 1:06am Unrelated but similar:I was

Unrelated but similar:

I was going through some old Michigan basketball stuff here and was reminded that Michigan's last scholarship offer for the 2011 recruiting class came down to either Max Bielfeldt or Larry Nance Jr., and they ended up going with Bielfeldt.

03/20/2017 - 10:51am Fuck that guy.
Watch the Fab

Fuck that guy.

Watch the Fab Five documentary. When Duke beats Michigan in '91 final, Ratface goes on and on about "teamwork prevailing over a bunch of individuals". Yeah, that's what it was, and not a 1 seed loaded with upperclassmen(in a time where leaving early was a lot rarer) vs. a 6 seed starting all freshmen.

So where was that great teamwork the next year when Duke lost in the second round and Michigan, with another year of experience, cruised to the championship game again?

Whenever his teams win, he'll be the first to play into the "Leader of Men" bullshit, and whenver his teams lose, he's always the first to throw them under the bus.

03/15/2017 - 12:05am It's a small community and

It's a small community and people talk. FWIW, I think this guy is extrapolating and exaggerating what most people would call 'strong rumors' at this point.

Funny, it looked to me like Crean was the one escorted out by security since he no longer belonged there.

I call bullshit on John Beilein knowing what a Kardashian is.
