borges just doesn't get it

He keeps trying to run power football without the tools:

No back to block after Fitz went out

no constraint plays

Poor tight end blocking

a wussie offensive line

On the forth down attempt around mid field I think OSU had everyone in the box so we run a veer, nice call

I know what we need.................

We need a defense that morphs on command, when we play a spread team like Oregon we need the twinkle toe little guys who can play in space and then when power team come to town the d-coordinator twitches his nose and we put in the 380 avg weight defense. Best of both worlds!

We made our mistake when we hired hair instead of a pixie nose. Must be RichRods fault.

Come on people and grow up, the spread is here to stay and we need to learn to play in space to stop losing to the likes of App State.  Scheme is not the answer, experiance, strength and talent are.

I must have been seeing things

Watched the whole Wisconsin game and did not notice that the coaching staff was missing tackles. All tha ailes this defense is time, time, time.  The program is just starting to get continuity now and will improve year to year. The witch hunt hurt worse that the fan base realizes and is still hurting us. The bowl game pratice will be just like an additional spring camp and improve our fundamentals if we can keep enough players healthy.

The high injury rate we are seeing is somewhat related to team maturity and strength. Whether this blog wants to admit it or not there is no magic button or magic coaching that fixes stuff. Time will fix it if we stay patient.

Michigan Monday is another negative nanny

Some people just have to be negative like Caputo, truck drivers, Spartans, Freep and so on. Forgets that someone hung 67 points on the # 15 (I think) defense.  Skip this it is not worth the time!!!!!!

Have not studied film but

I think all this analysis is way to complicated. Defense is played on instinct and offense is played on plan. It looks to me like the most of the defense is slow to read. If you are a half step slow in recognition or take a half step the wrong way you will never get there against a good offense. The defense plays slow (on their heels).

Time and experiance will fix the issues! Dare I say it, even  Lombardi can not give them experiance.

Players make Plays Coordinators don't

The 3-3-5 is not the problem, the players are the problem. Our linebackers are a joke and outside of 1 player the d line is as well.  Leaves lots of chances for the secondary. I was a middle line backer so I watch their play. Seems to me like they take a half step the wrong way most times.

Maybe a 7-0-5 would be better /s

Scemes don't make plays, players do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am right there with you on this one.

This is a well reasoned piece. Jumping off the building before looking where the ground is can hurt. The problem on defense is not simple and I do not think there is a magic button to fix it. A new coordinator would probably help but not as much as the "fire everyone camp" thinks.

For sure new coach = lost recruits and another couple of rebuilding years. David Brandon should nudge RichRod into making smart changes in the defensive staff and management sytem where required.

The fans need to cool their jets some, the constant roar helps nothing. If David Molk is an example then RichRod is doing something right. There is no one thing that will fix this problem. We need more talent. experiance, better game plan, more consistant offense and .............  This is just like the Lions, the holes are many and time is needed.

This blog might be part of the problem

Seems to me that in todays information world potential recruits are probably well tuned to what is being said about a coach and a program. The contant second guesing has taken a toll on recruiting and the program. I think that the Free Press stories have also had their effect.

The transition to everything new in a program has taken time more time than the fans expected. RichRod has also made some mistakes along the way but I remember the constant bickering about lack of a runnning game and soft defense under  Carr. Seems like this fan base is just never satified. I think the smart play is to let his contract play out and see where we are because a new coach will have most of the same if not all of the problems.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. The offense is fun to watch and the D will get there.

I agree seems like they are not ready to play

I have been a fan forever and a lurker on this board for a couple of years. I do not think there is any talent on defense but it also seems that there are not any adjustments being made.

The flat is always open for about 12 to 15 yards and a counter  seems good for 10 yards most times. Iwas a middle linebacker and I am retired  but think I could play on this defense. Something is wrong either coaching and or recruiting, maybe both.
