Blu, you know he won’t pay…

Blu, you know he won’t pay anywhere near that amount in taxes. C’mon.

The max rate in the code does not represent what wealthy people actually pay.

Oh please. First, most…

Oh please. First, most wealthy people pay far less than that in taxes. Second, there is absolutely nothing harbaugh could possibly want or need that his horrible tax burden will prevent.

”sorta doing fine?” Really? I live a pretty good life here on less than 1% of his salary. IMO a “thinking person” would be far better off thinking about how good they have it, not bitching about taxes.

i can’t believe all the hand-wringing over how much millionaires living in luxury in a gorgeous place have to pay in taxes.

And for the record, I live in sf and choose to do so. Cost of living is far more impactful to me than taxes. It’s the folks who aren’t millionaires and struggle to stay afloat that I care about.

I don’t know anything about…

I don’t know anything about SD, but it’s my understanding there were plenty of people who didn’t like him at Stanford. My source for this is someone who played for him at Stanford.

He was super successful, so most folks accepted his difficult personality.

Couple of things:

- I am…

Couple of things:

- I am stunned people keep clinging to the “all I want is to be loved” rationale for JH leaving. He was far more loved at Michigan than he has/will be anywhere else. Spanos family are famously cheap and difficult, and chargers have no fans. In NO WAY did he take that job for warm fuzzies. Enough.

- JH also said “I’ll stay at Michigan as long as they’ll have me”. The man wants to coach in NFL, and while I don’t doubt JH’s affection for Michigan, it’s clearly secondary to his nfl ambition. And it’s obvious his words are not always sincere.

- JH is notoriously difficult, and has annoyed, alienated and feuded with pretty much every boss he’s ever had. He has to have a foil, it seems. I’ll be stunned if his LA tenure ends happily..

- That said, Warde is a minor figure compared to JH. As cold as it seems, negotiations probably should have included consulting with JH on a list of acceptable AD candidates. If warde had to be sacrificed to keep JH, then so be it. However, the next AD would surely soon be on JH’s shit list - and there’s risk giving someone too much power.

i honestly don’t care too much about warde one way or the other. I thought at the time it was dumb to cut JH’s salary, but at least warde didn’t fire him as many people were calling for - which would have been really dumb.

That just shows what MIGHT…

That just shows what MIGHT have happened had harbaugh stayed.

Don’t forget bo took over when OSU was an absolute juggernaut. They beat us 50-14 the year before he took over, and returned basically everybody - that 1969 osu team was considered one of the greatest all time.

Then woody and Bo traded blows for a decade; basically a draw. Those osu teams were all loaded.

By the 80’s Bo and successors had basically won control of the rivalry - much like harbaugh finally did. Bo took on peak osu and won right away - took harbaugh awhile, though harbaugh also finally won a national championship as Bo never could.

imo the challenge both coaches overcame was similar. Bo beat woody right away; harbaugh never quite got past meyer. Bo stayed and sustained longer, harbaugh reached higher peak. If only he’d stayed...

If you go early, you can…

If you go early, you can park at Mountain View cal train station, then take VTA light rail from there. You’ll have a long wait for a VTA train back after the game, but at least it’s not crazy expensive.

You can grab a pre-game meal/beer in downtown Mountain View.

Parking at Levi’s sucks - expensive and not really close unless you have a season pass.

Good luck, and enjoy the game!

I’m not so sure control…

I’m not so sure control-freak coaches agree. NFL coaches (for the most part) have very little control over even a 53-man roster. They have to make due with whoever the GM signs.

OTOH, college coaches have much larger rosters and lots of control over personnel.

Sure, they have to schmooze high school kids - but there is an upside.

The thing is, it clearly…

The thing is, it clearly hasn’t been a drag on the program- without question the program is in the best shape it’s been in decades.

It’s nice to imagine how great things would be if Harbaugh would just be satisfied staying put - but who knows? Maybe he wouldn’t have the same fire.

unfortunately, any scenario other than “harbaugh stays” is a huge step back. Even x years more with annual “will he stay” angst is better than any “our new coach is” alternative (except possibly for fan base blood pressure).

I agree w everything you…

I agree w everything you said, Jordan, w a caveat. Many players love him - for awhile.

In that regard cfb is perfect for him, because players are more willing to tolerate his quirks and they move on after a few years.

at San Francisco, it wasn’t just management that got fed up w him; many players did, too.

Exactly, Fritz. Most likely…

Exactly, Fritz. Most likely an owner and a GM.

Two actual bosses. Far less power than he has at Michigan.

49ers were far less willing than Michigan to put up w JH drama. I suspect that’s true w any other NFL team. Harbaugh is a great coach but a difficult, challenging person by all accounts.

JH is never comfortable and carries a lot of baggage along with his coaching wizardry. NFL owners are rich, entitled, and often capricious. Doesn’t seem like a recipe for a long-term relationship.

If you want to ensure he…

If you want to ensure he leaves, that’s exactly what you should do, Fritz.

IMO all this is remarkably simple.

JH is one of the best fb coaches on the planet, and any next coach will be a step down. Sherrone Moore may become a fine coach, but he ain’t Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh is restless by nature. OF COURSE he’s going to look at potential nfl jobs every year. He’s proven that time and again - and his past statements haven’t held up.

Harbaugh is an enigma. He craves and espouses loyalty, but pretty clearly doesn’t seem to think that standard of loyalty pertains to his ongoing commitment to coaching at Michigan.

He’ll never receive as much loyalty, job security or “love” from an nfl team. So to me, that’s just b.s. posturing. He’ll inevitably piss off his nfl bosses and get canned. Why? Because in the nfl he will actually have bosses - he simply won’t have the same amount of power.

He’s continued to be a fantastic coach despite the drama. Any harm his annual flirtations w nfl have caused is more than offset by his actual job performance. I’m pretty sure that continues as long as he’s here.

It’s really up to him. He holds the cards. Winning the championship gives him a stronger hand. To me that just means he’ll get a better deal ($, power, autonomy) wherever he ends up.

michigan - and all of us, frankly - are stuck with what we have: we’re in love with the most popular girl in school who wants to keep her options open and won’t close her tinder profile.

Best of luck, Blake - though…

Best of luck, Blake - though you're one guy who won't need luck. With your drive, commitment, sense of purpose and service, and ebullient personality you will surely be successful in football and in life.

On a team full of leaders and role models, you stand out as truly special.

Thanks for everything - you're an exemplar of "Michigan Man"!

And oh, those cuts, too...

All the best to you - Go Blue!

Well, it makes sense to go…

Well, it makes sense to go out on top.

He'd probably go higher in the draft next year, but maybe he'll be with a better team this way.

Either way he's gonna make a boatload of $$ in the pros. I think the bigger issue is his Michigan legacy. Going out undefeated, having lost only 1 game in his Michigan career - that's about as good as it gets.

Good luck JJ - I imagine you know it'll never be this much fun again. You'll always have a home (and legendary status) in Ann Arbor.

Thanks for everything, and may your future be bright!

IMO all the "show love"…

IMO all the "show love" stuff is ridiculous. NO NFL team/fan base/community will ever show him the amount of "love" he receives at Michigan and in Ann Arbor.

Pro football isn't about love - it's a business. I was here in SF when he coached both Stanford and the 49ers - in no way did JH receive anywhere near the amount of attention or accolades - or job security - he receives at Michigan.

If he takes another NFL job, he will probably succeed - and he will also inevitably be fired. Harbaugh took the 49ers to the SB and was fired a couple years later. The Patriots just fired Bill freaking Belichick, fergodsakes!

So, enough of this "show love" crap. Jim Harbaugh will go to the NFL not because he'll make more money, not because he'll get more "love", not because he's tired of recruiting or the NCAA seemingly being against him.

Jim Harbaugh will either stay at Michigan because he's finally satisfied and comfortable, or he'll go to the NFL because he wants to win a Super Bowl, and is never satisfied or comfortable.

I think the main reason he’s…

I think the main reason he’s had an NFL coaching itch is how much that SB loss to his brother gnaws at him.

Even just as fans, I think this championship is satisfying in part because we’ve come so close but fallen short so many times (including hoops).

He played a great game -…

He played a great game - hell, they all did.

Michigan held THAT Washington team to 13 points - holy shit.

What a defense! What a team!

Go Blue! National Champs!

Jim f=ing Harbaugh.  He came…

Jim f=ing Harbaugh.  He came home to accomplish one truly daunting task - and damn if he didn't do it.

Incredible team. Amazing coaching staff. Spectacular leadership.

Corum, Sainristil, Graham, Grant, JJ, Loveland, Johnson, Zinter, Keegan - my gosh, there are dozens of heroes.

15-0! Beat OSU, 'bama and Washington.

This team is legend.

Go Blue! National Champs!

This year is gonna keep me…

This year is gonna keep me in good spirits for years.

BPONE is gone.

Dude is a phenomenal coach…

Dude is a phenomenal coach. Our D-Line is incredible - deep, balanced, sound, smart, talented.

Player development is our secret sauce, and Elston is the finest developer of talent we have.

What an amazing coaching staff - by far the best in football.

Go Blue! National Champs!!!

Entire defensive backfield…

Entire defensive backfield was superb - hell, the entire defense was just incredible.

More than anything, I'll remember the tackling. So many would-be big plays thwarted by tenacious tackling.

Beautifully schemed, expertly performed.

What a team!

Go Blue! National Champs!

I've been firm in my belief…

I've been firm in my belief from early this season that this is the best Michigan team I've ever seen.

However, that still doesn't mean they were certain to win EVERY FUCKING GAME.

This team is so so special. So many leaders, so many heroes. Such great kids too.

Amazing coaching staff, incredible leadership.

THAT, my friends, is a team.

Go Blue! National Champs!!!!

Best goddamn muppets ever!

Best goddamn muppets ever!

We've had a lot of tough…

We've had a lot of tough times, a lot of almosts - makes tonight all the sweeter.

What a beautiful, glorious, perfect feeling!

Thanks MGoBlog and the whole community - we can all finally let go of everything and just be in bliss.

Go Blue! National Champs!

I love that kid. What a…

I love that kid. What a player!

Every time Michigan desperately needed a play - Mikey was there. What a legend.

Woodson is still the best player I ever saw at Michigan, but Mikey might just be my favorite.

Michigan Man!

Go Blue! National Champs!!!!!

Michigan - no question…

Michigan - no question. Happy for the Lions - but love the Wolverines

Not picking on you…

Not picking on you specifically, iMBlue2, but geez, our fanbase sure does complain about recruiting.

IMO we have absolutely nothing to complain about regarding recruiting or talent.

I FAR prefer our model of recruiting very good players who stick around and develop into great players, augmented by a few superstar recruits and well-chosen portal transfers.

OSU usually loses their guys after 1 or 2 good years, often before they reach their full potential - and if they don't play right away, they're gone. I'm not suggesting hoarding 5* isn't a way to championships - but give me Michigan's way anytime.

Based on this year's finalists, I'd say development, longevity and smart transfers is an excellent model.

All those schools that people here look on absolutely green with envy are sitting at home watching Michigan play Washington on Monday. And the schools with the biggest bags (A&M and Miami) are a mess.

Someone in this thread asked why can't we recruit local 5*'s who look at us and say "I want to be part of that". We have 2 of those on our team right now.

Michigan's run of success has been fantastic - is it sustainable? Well, it's worked for 3 years in a row - and this year's team is arguably the best Michigan team I've ever seen.

We've got it great right now - other schools should (and probably do) envy us. Enjoy it.

I very much admire good…

I very much admire good sportsmanship. Excellent job, young man!

Pete Finebaum and porn…

Pete Finebaum and porn movies should never be spoken of together.

Now I'm gonna have nightmares.

Yep - we slayed the dragon…

Yep - we slayed the dragon. The big, bad ess eee cee is watching the final from their wretched homes.

The best part is that it just doesn't matter what that prick says.

Happy Day! Go Blue!

There they are!  Man, this…

There they are!  Man, this has been a glorious, Muppety season!

Go Blue!

He'll probably move on at…

He'll probably move on at some point - but I'll appreciate every game he coaches. Man, he's good.

That was Nick fucking Saban he schooled out there.

All these coaches deserve incredible praise - for development,  for culture, for scheme, for cohesion. Best coaching staff in football, and I'm not sure it's close.

Well done, Jesse Minter! Milroe is going to be seeing winged helmets in his nightmares.

Go Blue!

Nooooobody. These are the…

Nooooobody. These are the good old days.  What a run this team is on!

Your comment hadn't popped…

Your comment hadn't popped up yet while I was typing the exact same thing. Well said. Dude is special.

Damn, Pennix throws a great…

Damn, Pennix throws a great deep ball. Drops a dime every time. Fun to watch - the guy is amazing.

Finebaum. This season has…

Finebaum. This season has brought out a lot of a-holes, but Pete is perennial.

Suck on it, Paaaawwwwl.

Go Blue!

Played tight early,…

Played tight early, struggled in 3rd quarter - but just like this entire fantastic season, the great players stepped up in the clutch!

Roman Wilson - wow. Blake - MAN. JJ - cool under incredible pressure that last drive.

Defense won this game, but that drive at the end will be remembered forever.

And, that bama defense was damn good. Props to them, it was a war out there.

Oh, happy day!

This team and this season are very, very special. Soak it in, it doesn't get better than this.

What. A. Game!

Happy New Year, y'all. Go Blue!!!

Minter's game plan will be…

Minter's game plan will be studied by every bama opponent as long as Nick is coaching. Brilliant.

Bama was completely destroyed in the first half; our blunders and missed chances kept them in the game.

Amazing, amazing performance by the entire D-line; clearly their experience with Georgia taught us what we needed - a deep, stout, talented D Line.

Special credit to the defensive backfield too - those bama receivers were no slouches and our guys made some PLAYS out there.

Wow, what a performance!  This was yet another magical day in a special, special season.

Dragon slayed!

Go Blue! Happy New Year everybody!

Grumbler, you said it. There…

Grumbler, you said it. There's lots of talk about how it's the players who generate the interest and value of cfb. At least for me, the players themselves are secondary, almost tangential to why I care about Michigan Football.

I've never been to a minor league baseball game, a G-League hoops game or even a non-NFL pro football game.

I love and much prefer cfb BECAUSE of the direct link to my university, and because they are students. I love Michigan football, not whichever team Erick All plays for. (not throwing stones at him, just an example).

I personally don't care one way or another whether college athletes get paid - but I don't buy the argument that players - h.s. kids who otherwise would be completely unknown without the huge stage and exposure enabled by playing for a school like Michigan - drive most of cfb revenue.

I loved Michigan football before Blake Corum was born, and his brief tenure - while greatly enjoyed and appreciated - will be just a tiny few pixels of my overall picture of Michigan football.

So, if cfb becomes minor league professional football, I won't care about it at all. Yes, I realize we're already getting close to that now - but I hold on because of what remains - scholarships, student-athletes, direct connection to school, conference affiliation, etc. I suspect I'm not alone.

I promise you, I ABSOLUTELY…

I promise you, I ABSOLUTELY would not.

Love JJ, don't give a crap about a guy who throws money at him. If a guy made a point of telling me this information about himself at a party, I'd laugh at his desperate need to feel important.

The entire concept of bowing to kiss the ring of rich donors is medieval to me - no thanks.

Not trying to cast stones - just my POV. If you feel differently, that's cool.

mitchewr, I don't get it at…

mitchewr, I don't get it at all. Some people have too much money, that's the only way I can justify this stuff.

Maybe it's an ego thing - impress the cool kids at the alumni reunion. But seriously, do I give a crap about some rich dude who paid a kid to play football at my school?  Nope.

It's all kind of creepy - "I gave an 18 year old kid a million bucks to be my friend and play ball at my school so I can flex to my frat/B-School bros."

Think about it - some rich dude (dudes?) threw $1M+ at Ewers - a teenager with a stupid mullet and overly involved parent, who happily took their money and bolted to UT. To me, it just proves that being rich does not necessarily mean you're smart. He/they got played by a dumb hick teenager from Texas.

Amazinblu if you're…

Amazinblu if you're referring to my post - vice-versa. Having JJ spend his career at Michigan has been a gigantic part of our success.

I mentioned him - and agree.

I mentioned him - and agree.

Thank you for this post - it…

Thank you for this post - it's always fun to look back at "sure things" and see they're anything but.

That said - JJ, Williams and Ewers in the same class is pretty damn impressive.

A BIG part of UM's success has been keeping most of the team in college and out of the transfer portal. Development and continuity = win.

MDot hit the nail on the…

MDot hit the nail on the head - and the more I think about it, the more pissed off I am about FSU getting the shaft.

This was a no-brainer:

3 undefeated P5 champions - Mich, Wash, FSU - IN

2 one-loss P5 champions - one beat the other head-to-head - Texas IN

Simple as that. Yep, SEC could claim bad luck. Boo fucking hoo.

By the twisted logic of Boo Corrigan & the committee, Georgia should have made the playoff (no, I DO NOT wish that had happened).

One of the most infuriating things that crapped out of that guy's mouth was his BS about how 'bama was so strong at the end of the season and FSU was "not the same team". Alabama got lucky as hell (4th and 31!) to sneak past a terrible Auburn team LAST WEEK. That Auburn game + loss to Texas should have kept them out of the tournament.

Meanwhile, FSU beat TWO SEC teams non-conference. What the hell else could they have done? They went undefeated in their conference AND scheduled and beat 2 SEC teams - and not the Vandy/SC/Ark/Cowbell wing of the SEC either. Hell, we didn't schedule anybody OOC - and 'bama lost their only OOC challenge at home.

Finally, no conference outside the decayed husk of the PAC 12 had any depth this year. After the top couple of teams the B1G, SEC, ACC, and Big 12 all sucked.

It's insane. This season ended up with a perfect scenario where results on the field actually showed a clear 4-team field - and how much fun it would have been to have a playoff with 4 teams that hadn't won before!

Fuck 'bama and the SEC. And Boo Fucking Corrigan too.

You are obviously not…

You are obviously not familiar with B1G football.  There's not a QB in the entire conference who regularly "effortlessly" hits deep balls.

Sure, there are a number of great QB's around the country who do - but WAY more who don't.

Holy cow, that post alone…

Holy cow, that post alone has to be some sort of record.  Well done.

We're fortunate to be connected to something very special.

3 years ago, we never could have imagined reaching this milestone this year.

Celebrate - 1,000!!!

Go Blue! Get 1,001! Beat the damn Bucks!

Wow that punt.  Hell, all…

Wow that punt.  Hell, all the punts. Doman had a fantastic game.

As someone else mentioned, it really seems the biggest issue with Harbaugh not on the sidelines is JJ's confidence.  He just doesn't look like the same guy without Jim there - and he's repeatedly mentioned how much he misses his presence.

Hopefully he can overcome and have a great game next week.

Coach Moore is doing as well as can be expected; there's a reason JH is so highly paid. You just can't expect his absence to have no impact.

Another week to work out the kinks.

Proud of the boys and coaches for hanging in there through some real adversity.

Go Blue! Beat the damn Bucks!

Hear Hear. The man is…

Hear Hear. The man is definition of clutch.

When we needed someone to step up - he sure the hell did!

One of my all-time favorite Wolverines.  Converted WR to....Legend.

Go Blue! Go Mikey!

Tau was on "just a bit" -…

Tau was on "just a bit" - that last near-TD pass was an absolute dime, among others.  He's never perfect, and almost always makes some boneheaded mistakes - but he's also a pretty damn good QB.

it was a windy day too - not easy conditions for either QB.

Mikey Sainristil is a gift…

Mikey Sainristil is a gift from the Gods.   My word, that guy is amazing.

Converted receiver to clutch-time monster. Just when things look grim, and someone has to step up - that little guy becomes a freaking giant.

What an amazing player. Truly one of my favorite Michigan players ever. Legend.

Props to the D-Line for gutting it out late - but this was Mikey's day.  Hero!

Go Blue - beat the damn Bucks!
