Second the comment on St. Bernardus 12. I used to live in Belgium and at the time, Westvleteren Abbey had a hotline that you could call to find out when the next batch was coming out. You used the hotline to enter a lottery and if selected you drove to the abbey to pick up a 2 case max purchase at cost (about a euro per bottle). Not sure if they still do it that way but that could be another crazy pilgrimage for you

Stephen, I was thinking the same thing about Bell, but now I'm wondering if he sits out against SMU and maybe even a conference game if coaches think they may need him after game 5

Gustave is exactly right. Nobody steps up. Gary had several pressures but no big plays. Same for everybody else except Ambry and Nico. Where were the third and long conversions and stops? Not enough big plays to beat a quality opponent
|09/02/2018 - 9:28am||What you call 50-50 plays…||
What you call 50-50 plays are not chance. They are what separates elite teams from mediocre teams. Spartan wr made a multiple tough catches. Psu made a clutch drive to get into ot. Those teams know how to win. We do not.

|07/31/2018 - 12:45pm||Adding to the methodology…||
Adding to the methodology issues...all NFL players showed teams something that warranted signing an NFL contract. So not only are they big and fast, but they have other RB skills. When you look at Ty Isaac, he never consistently displayed skills other than being big and fast so his 119 score is not comparable to Barkley's 122

Clearly at the goal line you should just run draw (73%) and Other (63%) every time. Since they might be looking for draw, just run Other every time and you will be OK

|11/20/2017 - 12:29pm||You make your own luck||
I don't disagree with the analysis, but somebody posted something about our inability to make big plays. My thought would be in most if not all the 'could of won' games, I bet we had fewer big plays in critical moments. We all focus on the bad spot last year while not mentioning the ridiculous play Samuel made to get there. Some of this may be luck, but over the last several years we can make plays against Northwestern and Indiana, but not OSU and MSU. I think it's more than bad luck. I think we need to re-learn how to win big games

|06/24/2016 - 9:55pm||good clarification by 25dodge||
Thanks for correcting my terminology. But several people that have provided medical related services for the football team have left or been reassigned in the last 6 month or so. It is not a coincidence.
|06/23/2016 - 2:14pm||House cleaning, but for different reasons||
This is not punishment for the specific Shane Morris concussion situation. It is more about overall control. During the Morris incident, the entire medical staff proved that they could not be bullied. This may not be a popular opinion, but Harbaugh wants as much control as he can get and the medical staff he inherited was not willing to be pushed around. So medical staff with a more NFL style philosophy that aligns more closely with Harbaugh's objectives are being brought in.
I don't think Harbaugh plans to mis-use this increased control to jeopardize player health in any way, but I do think he wants more flexibility to push the envelope on medical related issues, especially on the administrative side of things.

|02/01/2016 - 6:05pm||Weak 1st half sched||
I agree it was nice to have a soft schedule without Caris, but the 2nd half schedule is pretty brutal. Only looks like 2 for sure wins. Am I the only who thinks we could lose a lot of close games in a row and end up back on the bubble?
|10/02/2015 - 1:22pm||Thanks Seth||
I truly appreciate the response itself and the (perhaps easily overlooked) fact that you even bothered to respond much less actully listen and put some thought into it. I just got reamed by a customer because I made an error in judgement. Inspired by your approach to this situation I listened to what the customer had to say, explained the circumstances that led to it and offered some ideas to make it better. Thanks for setting a good example.
|10/02/2015 - 7:53am||Blurring content and ads||
I am with Squader et al on this one. I usually just lurk and rarely comment, but this DK stuff has been bothering me for quite awhile. I also am fine with ads and I see that the post is tagged appropriately, but I don't usually look that closely. I see a headline about running backs and click expecting the usual great content. Then I feel betrayed when it is DK (I have fallen for this trick on 5-6 posts now <insert joke about my intelligence here>.
I am also happy to skip/not read things that don't interest me. Just label it more clearly so I know to skip it.

|12/03/2014 - 1:40pm||was thinking Stockton too||
maybe it is because I am old and lost interest in the NBA about the time Nash came along. Spike definitely knows how to play the game though and will be a huge part of this team all year
|09/23/2014 - 12:09pm||Attention to detail||
It is clear that Yost (and Bo later on) had this fanatical attention to detail. I have no sense that this attention to detail still exists.
Fielding only 10 players two plays in a row would have resulted in Brian Kelly level red-faced explosions and probable firing/demotion of those responsible. Now it is 'Well, that's on me and I have to do a better job of coaching" How have things changed so much, so quickly?
|09/11/2014 - 12:51pm||Last 4-5 years||
When I look at Iowa last 4-5 years it's not too different than our last 4-5 years. Is Hoke on same coaching level as Ferentz? If so, is that good enough?
|09/03/2014 - 12:00pm||Seems too easy||
I don't know much about these things, but it seems odd to me that a physically overmatched ASU team can run a play where:
DT and MLB play poorly = 11 yd gain
DT poor and MLB good = 6yd gain
DT and MLB good = 3 yd gain
Is it just because we were in vanilla D with no adjustments as Brian mentions or is it normal for a team to have plays where 3 yd gain is the expected worst case?

|03/05/2014 - 2:54pm||top 3 seed better than worst 2 seed?||
If I understand correctly, the brackets are designed so the 'best' of each seed is supposed to play the 'worst' of their opposing seed (e.g. best 3 seed plays worst 14 seed in opener and worst 6 seed in next round).
Could it be better to be matched against the worst 6 seed instead of drawing the best 7th seed if we make it up to the 2 seed line (assuming we would be the 'worst' 2 seed)?
It seems like a team that gets 'screwed' with a lower seed than they think they deserve could be in that best 7th seed slot and have a chip on its shoulder.

|05/28/2013 - 7:44pm||Stars from outside top 250||
Quick look shows only Ryan, Fitz and Gallon that came from outside top 250 to be true stars. Recruiting rankings aren't everything, but you can't have a team full of stars without highly ranked recruits.
|04/09/2013 - 2:54pm||My daughter is 13||
We were in Atlanta for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games and had the pleasure of staying in a pub past curfew for minors so we could finish watching the game, connecting with complete strangers just because we had the same shirt on, and watching one of the most amazing comebacks in recent history.
I was in Berlin for the Final Four game but she watched it on her own and we texted throughout. Keep in mind she had virtually no interest in sports until about 2 years ago.
Last night she got to see her old man singing the fight song, jumping up and down (in delight and anger) and even slipping a few choice cuss words that she had never heard escape my lips.
All of this will be a lasting memory for me and I hope for her as well.

|03/04/2013 - 12:32pm||LeVert's feet||
Earlier poster implied LeVert wasn't as good as we thought on defense and then mentioned Burke has better feet. To my eye, LeVert is particularly good at closing out on the perimeter without overrunning and getting out of position (he closes and stops/contests the jump shot without fouling and is still in position to stop the dribble). But I admit I know little about the finer points of the game so am curious what others think.

|01/15/2013 - 2:42pm||Question about talent mix||
Is it better to have all polished 4 and 5 star recruits or to have a mix of polished 'stars' and unpolished 'projects'? It seems to me that players like Stribling and R. Dawson are good to have because they have lots of upside and motivation to improve. They will push and maybe even overtake the more polished players. If they don't ever make it to that level, they may be more willing to be a backup/special teams player than a 5 star kid would be.
