Cracks me up when folks call San Francisco "Northern California."  Not only is it geographically incorrect...but there is soooooo much more up there.  Oh well, more for me I suppose.

Man.

I really need to make it up there soon.  Thinking about doing a big loop through Oregon the next time I get a long weekend and hitting the big spots.  St. Helens, Mt. Hood, Crater Lake, Bend and Portland are all on my list.  Might need to split it up though, or just take some vacation time.  If you've got some under-the-radar spots you don't mind giving up to a random dude on the internet I'm all ears.

It's phenomenal.

I moved up here for work recently, and have completely fallen in love with the Alps.  So many endless trails and epic scenery - rivaling some of the best spots in the Sierra, IMO - and it's remote enough that it keeps the crowds down aside from a few of the flagship trails.  Plus, this is only one wilderness area of several in the area, including the coastal redwoods.  And I haven't even crossed into Oregon yet.  I think I'm gunna like it up here.

Backpacking.

Heading out to the Trinity Alps in NW CA.  This will be my home for the next few days.  cantwait.gif

Except...

This statement really doesn't say anything other than "OK I heard you already.  For the love of God please stop sending me emails!"

...

Mike Leach would have come back to win.

As my username suggests, I live in Lubbock and was a grad student at Tech during the final Leach years.  DO.  WANT.

I live in Lubbock.

And I will most certainly drive to the Permian basin for Oberon or Bell's on tap.

27, class of '09

Back in my day, I walked 15 miles to my classes through 8 feet of snow.  While being chased by a rabid polar bear.  And by golly, I made it to every one 10 minutes early.  Damned kids are so pampered these days.

House of Cards.

Just started watching and I am really struggling not to go on an all-out binge.

Yeah.

I mean, I didn't like Joe D's decision to pass on Burke, but this team is a train wreck regardless of whether Jennings is running the point or not.  Watching Josh Smith shoot threes is like watching a 2013 Michigan tailback pick up a 3rd and short.

What?  Too soon?

So...

does this mean we gon' be SEC?

But...

what about decided schematic advantage?

:(

Decided. Schematic. Advantage.

Never change, Fran.

Never change.

Man.

Twitter is on fire today, you guys.

I didn't...

but it's a good move.  I wouldn't mind a road trip to Tempe.

Guns up!

Trust me when I say though, that TTU is currently conjuring up a way to lose this game as we speak.  So, so far from being a done deal.

My goodness.

And not just Texas...

...but way out in the middle of the high plains of West Texas.  Good luck to you in your quest for BWB.  For what it's worth, this magical experience is worth the 2 or 3 hour drive to Grand Rapids if you do not succeed.  The clock is ticking and I'm sure it won't last much longer.

Merry Christmas, and cheers!

Christmas Day Miracle

Today, I went to my local beer store in Lubbock, TX in search of a few christmas brews.  On a whim, I asked if they had ever gotten Founder's Backwoods Bastard in the past.  The outstanding associate said that they had, and went in the back and found the last one they had in stock.  Thank you sweet baby Santa Jesus for making this the best possible away-from-home Christmas evar.

Gary Pinkel

I think Gary Pinkel should been in the discussion as well.  Mizzou and Auburn were similar last season, but Auburn was a hair worse and went one game farther than Mizzou did this season, so kudos to him.

...

My heart rate reached a level that I don't care to admit.

Just got out.

I really liked it.  Smaug was incredibly well done from the voice to the CGI.

Welp.

Then we just disagree completely. I have a hard time evisioning Michigan as a favorite against any of those teams except maaaybe South Carolina. Honestly, there might be 4 or 5 teams at best in the top 25 that we would be favored over on a neutral field... and to me thats a stretch.

Yeah.

It would require either Hatch coming in as an immediate medical hardship, or possibly the coaches giving Horford the firm handshake... the latter of which seems unlikely unless Horford wants out. Or, like you said, someone unexpected leaves the programs.

Disagree.

Do you honestly believe that Michigan is one of the ten best teams in the country? I certainly haven't seen it.

Bummer.

That really sucks. But, maybe the Lions can put Steve Breaston to work. Or maybe Braylon?

Really?

I kinda thought their QB looked pretty good. Their defense is suspect but they've come a long way from Kill's first season.

My God.

Suh with a classic stupid penalty... followed by a pick. Why am I watching this again?

Boilerquest?

Or does their dominating victory over mighty Indiana State automatically disqualify them?

Yeesh.

That is certainly something.  I still think that they will beat a few teams this season because of their defense alone... but my original 9-3 prediction is lookin pretty dumb right about now.

Purdue.

Holy hell they are bad.  I would put Iowa in just barely above that... with Indiana/Minnesota duking it out as the token "mostly bad team but will probably upset a team they shouldn't" team.  Illinois might actually not be a complete tire fire, and MSU's defense alone will keep them hanging around most games they play.

I hate to be a Debby Downer...

but I'm about to be a Debby Downer.  We have got to find a way to spread the ball around better...because sooner or later some team is going to figure out how to lock Gallon down.  Funchess/Dileo/Chesson need to be more involved down the road... besides just blocking for Gallon downfield.

Pipe dream.

I wouldn't be totally shocked if his "people" put out some rumors of interest in order to leverage a new deal (as if he needs one), but leaving for Austin at this stage in his career would be a head-scratcher to say the least.

That play was sweet.

Pretty much all you can do is tip your cap and move on.

I agree.

I'd probably put them at 12 right now if I was a voter.

I don't know if they will...

but they definitely should, IMO.

Original Premium.  Was originally going for the Heffeweisbier but bought this by mistake.  Still, a nice way to wash down a fresh batch of white chicken chili I just conjured up.

That was fast.

That tweet is 3 minutes old and it's already on the board.  Hopefully Drake has a speedy recovery.

Yeah man.

Granted he wasn't asked to do much other than a bazillion bubble screens, but he was solid.  4 TDs, 0 INTs and 412 yards.

Meh.

Doesn't State do this every season though?  I bet they win 9 games easy with their easy schedule and defense alone.

Tech.

I'm actually cautiously optimistic about Tech so far. They are starting a true freshman walk-on at QB,and he has actually looked impressive save for a few terrible decisions over the middle. They're having some consistency issues, but not entirely unexpected. Also, Gilbert is turrible.

Yeah.

That looks pretty spot on.  Shurbutt seems to think he is 220 lbs, but from that video I think that's a bit of an overstatement.

I would hope so too...

but the fact remains that there is likely a sizeable portion of students at U of M that feel the exact same way.

Yeah...

I like to make fun of the SEC as much as anyone else, but this is hardly an Alabama phenomenon.  I bet if you interviewed Michigan students you would get a lot of similar responses.

Well...

In theory, Rawls should break tackles and run like a friggin' moose.  But when it comes down to it, he just hasn't done it in games.  For a guy with his size and stature he gets brought down way too easily.

...

This is the play that made me a Wolverines fan at 8 years old... and probably a big reason why I ultimately went to school there.  Also, holy crap that was 18 years ago.
