06/14/2018 - 7:00pm Amazing how little Brazil…

Amazing how little Brazil discussion there is so far this year.

I guess you get your butt paddled like a red-headed stepchild in front of the entire world in the Final, and the mystique gets to take a breather.

05/16/2018 - 4:59pm I was there with my brother

I was there with my brother ... great memory, even thought it was at the expense of my all-time hero, #99.

04/23/2018 - 12:51pm Uber-talended Saginaw

Uber-talended Saginaw footballers from a similar vintage (early 2000s grads):

MSU -- Charles Rogers

Michigan -- LaMarr Woodley

Meaured in their respective post-football contributions to society, "leader and best" really starts to stand out.

I know Charles had a rough go of it growing up, but LaMarr wasn't exactly on easy street. He came out of Michigan as somebody whose worldview had been very positively impacted by his collegiate environment.

You, sir, are doing it well.

03/15/2018 - 10:25am I've been hoping for that

I've been hoping for that too, but he's already well into his playbook of trading off the future of the franchise to win now.

The pile of talent they had coming up a few years ago is largely either a) up on the Big League club (or nearly so) or b) traded off already.

So while they have the pocketbook to swallow his salary (or much of it), I don't know that they have the assets to send back that would make it worth handing them our hometown hero (if only from a PR standpoint).

03/04/2018 - 2:34pm If Winston went Blue, he

If Winston went Blue, he would almost for sure be a better player than he is today.

Beilein's guards >> Izzo's guards

The facts are the facts on the track record of developing back court players.  That doesn't guarantee Winston would be better off here, but there's a pretty strong set of indicators to that end.

At this point, it's Winston's loss. Turns out we're just fine without him.

02/17/2018 - 11:33pm Can't stand figure skating.

Can't stand figure skating. Hate it.

But those two Russian girls. OMG. Sometimes you know you're watching history. They really, really look like the two best figure skaters who ever lived. The 18 year old is already statistically in that discussion.

When do they go as individuals? Monday and Tuesday night?

What does your nephew have to say about him?

02/16/2018 - 12:59pm Roy Tarpley could tell some

Roy Tarpley could tell some stories about how friendly the AAPD was back in his day.  And Derrick Alexander (aka the Unintentional Destroyer of Random Parked Cars).

To your other point, though ... to my knowledge none of that had anything to do with sweeping sexual assault under the rug.

02/08/2018 - 9:13am ESPN's story may have

ESPN's story may have included some half-truths, but if MSU tries to declare victory over it on that basis that would be much akin to Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) shouting "we demand an apology!" at the senators after the inquisition of Michael Corleone fell apart in Godfather II.

01/25/2018 - 11:48am No, it was Brady in the 1st,

No, it was Brady in the 1st, Henson in the 2nd (threw a pick and a huge bomb TD) and then Brady in the 2nd half.

Brady was 30-of-41 for 285 yds and 2TDs.  He was 6 of 11 for 44 yards when Henson came in.

But that was the Plaxico game: he caught 255yrds on us, Burke threw for an even 400.

01/25/2018 - 10:19am We did start Brady against

We did start Brady against MSU.  He started every single game that season.  Henson rotated in.

Nothing nefarious.

But you are probably correct in inferring that there was some friction.  Two former BMOCs, but with very, very different styles.

Pretty sure nothing major lingering now ... just not meant to be.

01/20/2018 - 5:52pm Butch W, Jon Vaughn and the

Butch W, Jon Vaughn and the great Tony Boles would certainly be in the discussion on that one.

But Wheats is my all-time favorite too, so I'll side with you there!

Lloyd always said: Tyrone was the most heavily recruited player in the history of MI high school football..

01/17/2018 - 11:08am Why the bike gloves for

Why the bike gloves for typing?  I've never heard of someone doing that before.  Outdoor job?

01/17/2018 - 9:43am Wimbush struggled so much

Wimbush struggled so much down the stretch (once teams realized he really was that terrible at passing) that he got benched in their bowl game.  His replacement (Ian Book) is a very good passer ... he came in and led them to victory over LSU.  He's also not a statue ... not Wimbush, but certainly a reasonable threat to run.

Officially they will have a QB competition in Spring and Fall, but I think the Domers expect Book to start and Wimbush to be the backup.

How's the market looking? I'm heading over soon to walk around and but a pair.

We almost got to 20 posts before this.

The board is still in its post-Christmas coma.

12/27/2017 - 2:59pm Wow, I had no idea Savage

Wow, I had no idea Savage made a $1400 firearm.  It's been a long time since I looked at them, but in the back of my mind had them pegged as a lower end brand than that.

12/21/2017 - 1:20pm There is little doubt about

There is little doubt about the UGa bagmen.

The state changed its laws about FOIA requests for Kirby (at his request), and the Lt Governor came right out and said "I hope it helps us land a national championship."

And shortly thereafter UGa goes into its old recruiting stomping grounds (cough, cough) of NYC and Philadelphia to swipe five stars Isaiah Wilson (long considered by everyone under the sun a lock to us, no less) and DeAndre Swift.   And now this avalanche of 5* talent.

Athens is fine and all (I have family there), but come on....

They land two five stars (Anderson and Cox) in the early signing period at a position where UGa doesn't even currently have a position coach on their staff?

By the way, they already have three of the top ten juniors in the country committed.

12/18/2017 - 4:17pm There were two:

There were two:

1) Transformers JetFire toy (first generation -- because that's how old I was). I just liked F14s.

2) Shogun Warriors Dragun -- I had Great Mazinga (gen 3, I think -- spaceship/brain was not removable) and Godzilla, and later got Raydeen.  But Dragun was the one with the ninja stars and battle axes (both firing), and was the one that got away.

Demerits for mentioning Boren

12/12/2017 - 11:38am I find the Tate Forcier

I find the Tate Forcier comparisons woefully short of reality. I understand the perceived need to compare him to someone who previously wore our helmet, but in this case that greatly mis-sets the expectations created by the forced analogy.  Short-ish, fast-ish white guy who runs around and does some unscripted stuff?  Okay.  But that's where it ends.  Patterson is far closer to Manziel at this level of football than he is to Forcier.

I know I'm swimming against the Brian and Space Coyote tides here, but I'll stick with that position until I see more evidence otherwise.

12/04/2017 - 6:19am But you can't just call them

But you can't just call them Division 1 and Division 2. You have to come up with names that mean something, so that you can excite the fan base and pay homage to the character and traditions of the conference.

Going alliterative didn't work; maybe this time we can try rhyming.

12/03/2017 - 3:56pm SCAR is not good.  I've

SCAR is not good.  I've watched them a little bit this year and was not impressed.  8-4 because NC State was one of those teams that could have won big but also was capable of losing to almost anyone ... and the SEC East was historically pathetic.  So don't overread that headline 'W' or their record.

They really, really didn't beat anyone this year.  That #107 ranking for their offense is not misleading ... they were very unimpressive on the hoof.

This ought to be a game where we can get a good bit of traction for Peters to build from.

11/30/2017 - 10:53am Dude, why so insensitive?

Dude, why so insensitive?  "Mentally retarded" is unacceptable ... unless you're talking about our safeties' play in pass coverage, at which point social mores are entirely irrelevant.

11/04/2017 - 2:16pm LSU is going to get wiped off

LSU is going to get wiped off the map in Tuscaloosa tonight thanks to that poll putting UGa ahead of Bama.  That was all Saban needed.

11/02/2017 - 12:17pm Good luck with that if they

Good luck with that if they do.  Webb and Lorenz are the top two recruiting scoop guys around the Michigan program.  Their staffs are there to generate mostly filler content to keep the people who are checking back for fresh material at any given moment placated.  Newkirk is good, but it's a side gig for him.  The rest of the guys are all just guys, IMO.  I don't see any of them developing a credible rival to the 247/scout crew.

10/30/2017 - 11:18am If I'm Frost I have a war

If I'm Frost I have a war room set up with my agent right now to do a little game theory strategery on how best to play UF, NEB and TEN off one another. Any one of those could be a great gig, and he will get paid a crap ton of money.  UCLA might enter the fray as well (they always love to have a shiny new car on offense).

10/30/2017 - 11:16am I agree that Chip Kelly is

I agree that Chip Kelly is much more likely to be a homerun hire.

Gruden could turn out to be very good at it, but there is way more unknown about him in that role. The grind of recruiting alone could easily cause him to flame out. He hasn't worked like that in a long, long time.

09/30/2017 - 10:14pm You're way overreading the

You're way overreading the situation.

They love McCaffrey but they're not tossing him in there this year.

They're trying to stoke the fire in Peters' belly. He needs to come out of his shell, at least to be one of Jim's guys.  JMHO.

09/30/2017 - 5:06pm If Brian started charging $10

If Brian started charging $10 a month for UFR, then it would immediately get copied and pasted all over the internet, just like all other paid content.

How much of Sam's material makes it over here, either instantly to this board, or eventually to Brian's updates?  Almost all of it.  The same would be true in reverse.

The ad-based model is the way to go, if you're in Brian's business.

09/30/2017 - 5:01pm Sam has Lorenz beat on the

Sam has Lorenz beat on the "sources" front, IMO.  But Lorenz is doing a good job at it too.

I think Sam's recruiting intel is still the best around.  But yes, it comes in spurts ... nature of the beast.

The scout site's revenue model is mostly subscriber-driven (247 is more about ads). So while I know how sucky that sort of process to deactivate is, I can't say I'm surprised to hear they try to have one live person try to hold onto you before you cut them off.

09/27/2017 - 9:37pm No. Slightly less than half

No. Slightly less than half of that.  $280k, IIRC

Maybe the $600k is the poster's attempt at adjusting for nominal inflation.

Fantastic first line typo. Did your keyboard just channel Jar-Jar?

I heard this theory that he's the Sith lord who's holding down Gary's stats.  It's all over the internet, actually.

09/25/2017 - 9:35am The 80s yarders comment was

The 80s yarders comment was pure gold, especially because they immediately doubled down on the mistake and started trying to do math out loud about what yardline that meant we needed to get to in order to be "in range."

Last week's pro-M piece in the WSJ was just as significant:

09/21/2017 - 9:48am Against a team/scheme often

Against a team/scheme often associated with cut blocks, I was glad to not see much of Mone. He has had all kinds of bad injury luck in the past.

I think he's going to be incredibly important to this D through the conference schedule.

If we get to play Wisky twice (November plus B1G title game), no one is going to be questioning the early season lack of reps. That's the type of game where he's going to be front and center in our chances at victory.

My old boss is on the board of trustees, so I became somewhat familiar through him.  A bit of a hidden gem.

Good luck to him!

09/18/2017 - 4:55pm I thought the narrative on

I thought the narrative on his two-sport HS career went something like:

- thought to be a high level hoops prospect early on

- turned out to be more of a mid level hoops prospect

- came on strong in football (Lemming called him #1 WR in the country) and he and his family concluded that was where his highest upside was, so gave up hoops for football

So now after football didn't click for him, basketball will?  I really hope it turns out that way, but it doesn't strike me as very likely.

09/18/2017 - 12:25pm Once upon a time I thought

Once upon a time I thought Kelly+ND would be a nightmare for us.  But now, it looks like him staying right there is fine.  So a ND win isn't particularly troublesome.

But then again, my hate scale differs a bit from others:  OSU>ND>MSU

I don't take Groucho Mark all that seriously ... his moment of glory was almost entirely due to the aberration in our program's history.  So the Moosters are back in their proper spot (3rd place) when I am stabbing out at others from hell's heart.

So ... go MSU? (I feel dirty)

08/31/2017 - 5:15pm at least it was the right Upton
