09/14/2017 - 12:45pm In defense of Sucky Director

Just a note: In a TV broadcast "useful replays" or lack thereof are the responsibility of the Producer. In most cases, it is the producer who chooses which assignment a camera is shooting for replay and it is the producer who chooses which replay tells the story best.

Basically a director chooses the live camera shots while a producer chooses the replay. The director is merely responsible putting the replay into the broadcast.

I do work for espn and have met both Dana Jacobson and Desmond Howard. Dana is aware of and has read MGoBlog (I asked) and I'm guessing Desmond has too.

01/17/2011 - 11:44am I would say...

Listening to Josh Groban is a personality flaw...

01/17/2011 - 11:41am Been reading since 2007 but

Been reading since 2007 but prefer to lurk... I enjoy voting so every now and then I have to post some stuff just to get back to the 100 point total. Its frustrating that the points expire.

I think a lot of the high point posters expect that if you love this blog, you will contribute... but a lot of us just like to read. I like to vote but really don't like to comment. The old system of no point requirement to vote and down votes being free really worked for me.

So this sounds like a fund raiser, but I'm trying to get back to 100 points so I can get back to up-voting and not commenting. If anyone wants to bang me up so I don't have to comment for the sake of getting points, please, do. Pretend like I'm that loose girl you ended up taking to prom and the term "sloppy seconds" isn't really that dirty.

01/17/2011 - 11:23am Cmon guys...

Cut Hoke a break.... he runs a football team, not the Vatican.

01/17/2011 - 11:12am Wow!

How does Lloyd Brady keep getting such awesome seats?

01/16/2011 - 6:30pm Is Jim Harbaugh still coming to Michigan?

I swear I googled it and checked the MGoBoard.

12/13/2010 - 6:15pm Apparently, the Yale School

Apparently, the Yale School of Architecture asked Michael Bierut to design their  "Structure of Light" poster... which turned out to be quite the spelling challenge for him as his original sketch spelled out "Strecture fo light".

And that, of course is something you always worth highlighting in your portfolio...

Yikes... That's exactly where I lived my first year at Michigan. Frat Row.

I know guys who still play that game regularly.

Now that the game's over, I guess I should go to the hospital and get those three consecutive heart attacks I had checked out.

It's good to be bowling again.

Rabble, rabble, rabble... poor taste..

10/28/2010 - 2:14pm Obviously, you know nothing

Obviously, you know nothing about this line of work or the people who do it.  A young kid working for a football program like this most likely has a just-get-it-done attitude, a ton of guts and would rather be tarred and feathered before admitting he was too scared to get up that lift.

10/28/2010 - 2:21am Funny because

I'm not sure if "Bwaaah" is the sound I'd make when my face gets smashed in...

10/28/2010 - 2:11am Agreed... and I find it

Agreed... and I find it unlikely a 20 year old would stand up for his safety and have the lift lowered.

I hope the investigation gives us a better idea of who we should be pointing fingers at.

06/28/2010 - 6:02pm What about abolishing the

What about abolishing the offsides rule? Let's mitigate the chance for human error by taking out one of the most difficult calls for a ref to make in any sport.

I know it's a huge leap for the sport but what's the worst that could happen.... more offense / goals?

06/28/2010 - 5:56pm While the Bryant Gumbel

While the Bryant Gumbel statement is technically a rant, I was really hoping for some soccer bashing... Not a defense which cites every reason I hate the sport.

In all fairness, I LOVE no commercial breaks.  Every sport could learn something from that.

06/13/2010 - 12:15pm Oh shnap, you gotta be my

Oh shnap, you gotta be my doppleganger in PS3 world. Loooooove Jay Dee, MW2 and NCDubs. Have you heard Assorted Donuts? Or Pet Sounds in the Key of Dee?

Anyhow, to all other LIVE users, my tag is "noahwesthand"

FWIW, I've been killing fools in MW2 with the clan tag (UofM).

I'm looking forward to splattering your brains in Afghanistan, or dancing in your endzone.

06/03/2010 - 9:59pm I'll vouch for Chip Brown.

I'll vouch for Chip Brown. He's more than a blogger, he's a radio dj and journalist. Great guy (originally from Michigan, btw) and does a radio show here in Austin on our local ESPN station. In fact, I'll come out and say his show "The Bottom Line" he does with Sean Adams is the best sports talk radio I've ever heard and littered with Michigan references. I'm nervous for him for being the first to post such a big story but knowing him, he's probably got a reliable source.

05/23/2010 - 8:16pm To be precise, it took BYU

To be precise, it took BYU and ECU to knock off Texas. I was a camera op working that regional in Austin so it really suprised me to hear we (meaning Michigan) weren't mic'ed on the Big 10 Network. All cameras should have microphones on them and for a production on the Big 10 Network, some mics should have been positioned around the stadium. Good to hear our softball team is kicking ass, unlike Texas's early departure.

05/19/2010 - 2:09am Exactly what I was thinking.

Exactly what I was thinking.

02/03/2010 - 8:30pm Are you...

The Knowledge 2.0?!?

02/01/2010 - 12:06pm I'm usually a nice guy, but this is troublesome...

First of all: If you take the Grammies seriously or believe they are awarded based on musical merit, you are an idiot with terrible taste.

To Maximinius: Agreed. The only reason I even witnessed the train wreck that was the Grammies was because I had the TV on MUTE and saw a masked guy on stage. I thought... "who's ripping off DOOM?"

I can't tell you how long my mouth hung open after I found out that the "I gotta feeling" song that's been forced down my ears dozens of times was the Black Eyed Peas. I didn't even like them when they claimed to be hip hop but this is mind blowing. Really. You can have your Grammies, but don't expect any folks like us to take you seriously after we find out you own Taylor Swift albums.

Because I'm ignorant, I just presumed everyone your height could dunk. But what do I know about dunking, you're nearly a foot taller than me.

01/28/2010 - 6:41pm I'm a Michigan grad and

I'm a Michigan grad and wanted a name that was generic and forgettable. I work in the sports broadcast industry and do not want to attract unnecessary attention to myself. That being said, I'm getting more comfortable with the idea of sharing my experiences with the MGoBlog community. You all seem like such a responsible and privacy-respecting lot who would get a kick out of the stuff I've seen.

I went to a bar downtown, drank, and left.

It was incredibly boring...

I'm much happier surfing the internet in my underwear.

Great work but I couldn't help but notice the second runner from the top is dragging a phallus as big as his other legs.

Last night, I met up with a girl I like and we walked her dog. It went pretty "meh" as I pussed out on initiating physical contact - but I'll blame half on the freezing weather. Still a good first step as that was our first time alone together as we always hang out with mutual friends.

Then I went and got blasted on Crown and Coke, and grass at a friend's bday party.

Now I have to go work.

01/06/2010 - 1:20am Do it. Do whatever the hell

Do it. Do whatever the hell you want to do. It's your life, and you only get one. I quit the office job and did what I wanted to do and I'll never look back. The only caution I offer is that I believe it's easier to succeed in a big city because networking is a HUGE part of success in most businesses. But if you got the self employment or freelancing bug, do it. I say fuck the desk and be your own boss.

Bought a nice camera today in hopes of generating some side income, as well as to pursue my art fancies. I have other sources of income but I think it's a great idea to take photographs for money as well.

Anybody also notice the difference in color contrasts on TV? The Rose Bowl looked gorgeous with rich, saturated colors. FOX + Stadium lighting just looks ugly.

Michigan Men's Adidas Clima Polo... The kind that's too expensive for me to justify buying but am pretty damn happy I got it. It's a $50 dollar shirt but I sure do feel sexy and well educated when I wear it.

12/12/2009 - 2:51am I was reading the comments on

I was reading the comments on this topic over at and thought "somebody over at mgoblog probably has a more thoughtful analysis than this..." and sure enough, I was correct.

While I dig the North - South division idea, the thought of not having the Michigan - OSU game being the final game of the season makes my head asplode. That, and the possibility of having to play that school twice in one year. If OSU was in our division, it would be similar to the Texas - OU rivalry which often sends its victor to a championship game against a weaker school from the Big 12 North. This would also allow us preserve the tradition of playing the rivalry as the final game on the schedule. But of course, that would make the divisions all screwy...

Actually, fat jokes are pretty funny. So are jokes about poo.

And your tag line seems to suggest you don't care too much about maturity either.

11/27/2009 - 2:13pm That's rich... especially

That's rich... especially since you just climbed out of the MGoBlog basement, Mr. Night Game Petition.

Jus' sayin...

Oh, and stop feeding the trolls. This becomes a positive feedback cycle and will only lead to more trolling. I know you're getting messaged and all, and you have every right to be annoyed but just ignore it.

11/08/2009 - 1:17pm Good points. Unfortunately,

Good points. Unfortunately, as a Post-Toledo/The Horror Michigan fanbase, we have also learned to curb expectations accordingly. Before last night's loss to Navy, the ND victory seemed to be RR's signature win. Now, RR will need to pull out a win against WI or Ohio to "exceed" our expectations. Let's hope a win against Ohio will allay any further diaries of how much our expectations have dropped. (Not that it was poorly written, I'd just rather be bitching about how Tate was snubbed on his second Heisman and we're still stuck with the Rose Bowl instead of the NC game.)

10/27/2009 - 1:42am I also up-banged everybody.

I also up-banged everybody. To offset the epinion hater.

I love the Rich Rod and believe the transition to the spread will keep Michigan competitive for NCs - but I'm still hurting from the Toledo game. We're also 1-3 in conference play... yikes.
