I thought the same thing at first. Maybe a no-call because that LT has pretty good position and ryan is trying to fight around the block? Just a guess.

Boss

Doubt Boss leaves MSU as he is a local and his father is a Lansing area high school baseball legend.

Holland?

He was signed by AZ in the Netherlands at the start of this campaign. He has 9 goals for a second place club (fighting for a spot in the UCL)

leopold bros?

maybe? if so it's not there anymore

big game COME nov 27th?

obviously husker fans have a lot to learn about the big ten...

Stadium

Filling any stadium with Michigan shouldn't be a problem. First sell-out at Memorial Stadium in Indiana in a few years (52,000) is a good example. Also, 73,000 Boise St and TCU fans filled the stadium for last years Fiesta Bowl.

legal

the low block is legal...look at the whole left side of the O-line. The part that makes it a penalty is when the center tries to get around Martin and hits him high at the same time as the low block. NCAA Rule 2-2-3-3

wouldn't call this cheap,

wouldn't call this cheap, definitely unfortunate though. center is trying to get upfield to block an LB and the guard cuts Martin into the center. good call, but not cheap or on purpose IME

agreed

texas and oklahoma are both in the big 12 south. yeah, the big 12 championship game leaves a little to be desired every year, but how much did having a "weaker" nebraska team up against big bad #3 texas hurt their rating this year? having Michigan and osu in the same division in a 12 team conference makes the game that much more important...ie must win the game to have any shot at winning conference...

I agree with you on the principles. Personally I am on the fence as to how good PSU actually is, believing they will get rolled by the Tide (no pun intended), and I would love to see Bama fold like a pancake against another mid-major in a BCS game...(obviously assuming Florida wins the SEC championship)

With how weak the Big 10 is

With how weak the Big 10 is considered this year, is it actually a slam dunk that they will get 2 BCS bowl bids? How attractive is an undefeated Boise St over a 2 loss team from a "weak" conference (Penn St)?

Toledo or Indy

Indy already hosts for basketball conference tourney, so the conference should have no problems putting on another event in that town. Toledo is also a great choice and both of those parks can handle any size crowd. I think it is imperative to have a NEUTRAL site for these conference championships since the Big Ten struggles to get more NCAA invites than the one auto-bid every year. Just giving away that home-field to tOSU every year really takes a lot of emphasis of the regular season (besides having to finish 6th or better to have a shot)

besides the "quality loss" to

besides the "quality loss" to Arizona what has Boise St done that CMU hasn't? Yet you have one at 8 and one not worthy?

Central Michigan?

I know the MAC isn't all that great this year, but CMU is 7-1 after an opening season loss in Tucson (UA is at 19 in your poll). They also dusted off baby brother and have pretty much rolled through the rest of their schedule including EMU and WMU. There next two games @ Boston College and vs Toledo are basically their season. I think they deserve some credit for scheduling some tough teams OOC. Fire Up Chips!

the kick can still score

the kick can still score points, but is dead as soon as it crosses the goal line. Any kick-off or punt that crosses the goal line cannot be returned in HS football.

NFHS rule

The NFHS rule is that any kicked ball becomes dead immediately after it crosses the goal line. Wonder if the refs blew this or if Vermont has a different rule in place... This play could not happen in Michigan.

new rule for 2009

all of NCAA has this rule. It makes it so if the offense only has 10 players on the field they can still get away with having their 4 "backs" while only having 6 lineman. Why penalize if they are playing a man down to begin with.

that is a good question,

that is a good question, however I think the way I would handle this play, without any specific rule covering it, would be that once the holder is no longer threatened by the defense (a period of time has elapsed that he isn't going to be roughed) he becomes a regular player. Especially in this type of play. Once the ball has been touched by the defense it is live for anyone to recover. If the D catches it with a knee down, they are down, so I think the same would apply for the kicking team once the ball has been kicked and subsequently touched by the defense.

you're right. if the holder

you're right. if the holder receives the snap with his knee down he can raise up to run a fake. If his knee comes up to catch an errant snap and then he puts it on the ground he is OK to proceed with the kick, but if he rises up again to do a fake the play is blown dead.

I don't think we have ever talked about any special rules regarding the holder after the ball is kicked. This leads me to believe that once the kick happens the holder becomes like any other player (exception: he could still draw roughing penalties). Recovering the ball with his knee on the ground would make the ball dead, whether he was touched or not.

It looks like he has a knee on the ground, but it is tough to tell from the video when he actually gains possesion of the ball. In this case got to go with the Ref who is 10-15ft away and say it is "inconclusive video evidence."

with a 7-9 seeding, Michigan

with a 7-9 seeding, Michigan would still end up playing either a one or two seed to advance to the sweet sixteen

so it seems if we won 8

so it seems if we won 8 titles in 9 seasons, no one would be disrespecting the big 11

i agree tha the tournament

i agree tha the tournament would have to be expanded somewhat in order to do this, but i can't stand that the regular season means nothing when you try to play 3-5 games in 3-5 days to crown a conference "champion" in terms of an auto-bid to the ncaas

what about an auto-bid for

what about an auto-bid for both regular season and tournament champs. I would argue that for this to be fair, all conferences should play the same style tournament. Byes if needed but no double and sometimes triple byes. No way depaul beats louisville in a 1-16 Big east game.
