Yep, I'm anti-Barstool but this is spot on. Barstool is an organization that thrives on tribalism, an us vs them mentality. ESPN just validated and reinforced that mentality.
|10/24/2017 - 12:44pm||Just because you went to||
Just because you went to Michigan does not make you a Michigan Man. Being a Michigan Man means that you have character, integrity, and work for the benefit of those around you. Portnoy has none of those qualities.
|10/23/2017 - 9:22pm||I think you'd be surprised.||
I think you'd be surprised. I'm in my mid-20s and aside from PMT, I won't touch Barstool with a ten foot pole.
Every anti-Barstool take in this thread is spot on. Their "everyman sports coverage" shtick isn't new, Bill Simmons pioneered it 15 years ago without any of the Barstool baggage (before he too became insufferable). The organization is suffering from founder's disease in the worst way because Portnoy is the world's biggest rod. And I think without changing, they're starting to bump up against the limits of how they can grow their audience. They might continue to grow in the future, but it will fundamentally change the organization. You will say those changes make them worse, I will say those changes make them better.

Contracts do come up for renewal tho...
|10/23/2017 - 9:10pm||I think it got greenlit||
I think it got greenlit because the PMT guys have a lot of ESPNers in their corner that were willing to vouch for then, while the critical voices didn't come in until later.
I agree that the PMT guys would be better off splitting off from Barstool (as others have said in the thread). PFT has been successful at ridding Big Cat of the worst indulgences of the Barstool brand. But unfortunately Big Cat seems to have a level of loyalty to Barstool that will do him more harm than good at this point in his career.
Going to be interesting to watch it all develop, to say the least.
|08/11/2017 - 12:53pm||I disagree. It usually take||
I disagree. It usually take Bama backs a year or two to find their footing and then when things clear out in front of them, then they get their opportunity.
But that aside, Bama uses sharing carries as one of their biggest selling points. Damien Harris and Bo Scarborough both averaged fewer than 10 carries a game last year and both crested over 800 yards. They get enough action to signal to the NFL that they're good, while saving their bodies for paid carries. It's a win-win.
|08/11/2017 - 12:40pm||I also agree that Solomon is||
I also agree that Solomon is probably the right choice
a) Because of the backs on the roster
But I would just like to point out that Harris is getting pretty rave reviews in camp. He's still going to be a beast.
|08/06/2017 - 6:47pm||Second the Catastrophe||
Second the Catastrophe (Amazon Prime) and Better Call Saul (couple season on Netflix) votes.
Would also add Bojack Horseman if you don't mind some dark humor and Atlanta on FX had a fantastic first season.
|05/23/2017 - 4:32pm||I haaaaaate Barstool but tend||
I haaaaaate Barstool but tend to really enjoy PMT. Maybe it's the satire, but PFT tends to bring a bit of self-awareness that's lacking in the rest of the company.
Anyway, this should be excellent, so even if you don't like Barstool, check it out.

I think you are describing a certain side when you say socially popular, but what exactly is socially popular in a country that appears to be split pretty evenly? Unfortunately, it all depends on the circles you run in.

|10/25/2016 - 1:37pm||Two Things||
1) Penn State is up to 19th in adjusted sack rate. The OSU game moved them up 9 spots.
2) Sickels finished with 1 solo tackle, 1 assisted tackle, and 0 sacks against Michigan.

|10/18/2016 - 12:41pm||I still have a hard time||
I still have a hard time considering Jabrill a linebacker, so he remains a hybrid spacebacker in my mind. That leaves two traditional linebackers: Gedeon and McCray. McCray has been good as well, but I have no doubt that Gedeon has been the better linebacker through 6 games.
And the stats back that up: 5 more solo tackles, 14 more assisted tackles, 3 more tackles for loss, and an extra 1/2 a sack.

|01/10/2016 - 7:10pm||Inventory||
Just went through and did a full inventory. It looks like I've got the following:
Ohio State: 1971, 1973, 1975, 1986, 1987, 1991, 1997, 1999
Michigan State: 1968, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1987, 1988, 1996
Notre Dame: 1978, 1979
Texas A&M: 1970
Penn State: 1996
Iowa: 1986, 1992
Florida State: 1986
Vanderbilt: 1969 (Bo's first game)
1998 Rose Bowl
Media Guides: 1990 (football), 1992 (football), 1993 (football), 1994 (football), 1996 (football), 1998 (football), 2000 (football), 2001 (football), 2002 (football), 1992-1993 (basketball, year 2 of the Fab Five)
Let me know if you would be interested in any of them, although I can't promise anything.
|01/10/2016 - 4:47pm||Yeah, it's pretty incredible.||
Yeah, it's pretty incredible. What I listed above is a small fraction of it too. There are lots of Ohio State, Michigan State, Notre Dame and others. Most in great shape, maybe 25-30 in all. And then maybe 7-8 media guides. It's quite the haul.
|11/25/2015 - 9:52am||I'm not all that impressed||
I'm not all that impressed with Franklin and Penn State, so I can certainly see them beating them. And upsets happen as well. If a coach makes Maryland into a decent team, there's no way they're going 0-12 against the other three over a four year stretch.
|11/25/2015 - 9:42am||Psh, they've got that Under||
Psh, they've got that Under Armour money. They're going to become the Oregon of the east coast, don't you know?
But seriously, Maryland produces some really nice talent and although I was being sarcastic, the Under Armour money is not trivial. They're not going to win the division or anything, but there's no reason they can't be an 8 win team on a consistent basis.
|11/19/2015 - 2:22pm||I think there's a good chance||
I think there's a good chance that Butt sticks around next year, for a couple reasons.
1) He's a pretty one dimensional player right now. He gets average or slightly below average grades for his blocking in UFRs, and I seriously doubt he'd be able to block an NFL defensive end one on one right now.
2) While there's a chance we could still win the division and league, the odds are greater that we'll fall short. And one of the main reasons players come back are to accomplish additional team goals. Cook and Calhoun have said they came back because they lost to OSU and didn't win the Big Ten last year. It could be a similar situation for Butt.
3) He has a good family situation, so he might not feel as much pressure to go to the NFL than some other NCAA athletes.
|11/03/2015 - 4:22pm||To me, the amazing thing||
To me, the amazing thing about Grantland was that I pretty much hated everything Bill Simmons wrote over the last several years. But the guy had an incredible eye for identifying and fostering talent and that was enough to win me over and get me to Grantland 5-10 times a week.

Yes, because Levert is playing for John Groce and Illinois right now.
|02/03/2015 - 9:09am||Crazy how the responses have||
Crazy how the responses have changed from just a few years ago. Michigan no longer commands the awe that it once did, that's for sure. I don't think it will take a ton to bring Michigan back, but Harbaugh and Wheatley certainly have their work cut out for them.
|01/28/2015 - 2:16pm||While I agree that he doesn't||
While I agree that he doesn't have breakaway speed, he looks a step up from De'Veon to me. Higdon turns a corner or two in his highlights and outruns some guys; you never saw that from Smith in his HS highlights.

It appears not, but as Brian and others have mentioned, he's more of an NFL guy and it wouldn't be too surprising if he was never interested in the position.
