My parents, when they were…

My parents, when they were living in Pittsburgh, had friends come up for the Open that year.  I remember them coming back to our house that evening talking about what happened on the course that day and then all the TV coverage switched to the Bronco chase.  It was a surreal time watching it all unfold.

Wow, that really changes…

Wow, that really changes things.  No more plays like in Super Bowl XXX when the Steelers did an onside kick early in the 4th quarter or the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV at the 2nd half kickoff.  Not a fan of this at all.

What a win for the Grizzlies…

What a win for the Grizzlies!  My mom got her Masters degree from Oakland, and I know she's thrilled right now.  Great game.

The last time I was in…

The last time I was in Michigan was in August 2015 for my grandmother's funeral in Allegan.  On the way back home to Pittsburgh, we took a detour through Ann Arbor so my kids could see the campus for the first time.  We didn't have a whole lot of time to spend there, but upon pulling up to Michigan Stadium I got out and stood in front of the gates for the first time in 16 years.  I thought, "Jim, you're here, beat OSU and bring home a championship."

It took longer than I expected, but he did it, and I'll always be grateful for that.  Thanks for everything, Jim.

The 1999 Rice game was …

The 1999 Rice game was (sadly) the last game I attended in person.  My Dad and I made it a Michigan sports weekend by attending the Tigers game the night before and see Tiger Stadium one last time.  Hopefully I can get to a game next season but can't say for sure yet.

I'll drive up from…

I'll drive up from Pittsburgh with my son if I can make it.  He watched the entire game with me and never lost faith in the team that they would win.  Would be awesome to see.

No dance practice for my two…

No dance practice for my two girls tonight so neither my wife or I have to go anywhere during the game.  After thinking Alabama was going to win during the 4th quarter last week, it's such a great feeling to have a reason to watch the game tonight.  Too nervous to do much of anything right now as I know most of you are!

I can't remember for sure…

I can't remember for sure how long I was a lurker before I actually registered, but I know I was around when the whole DB "find another team to cheer for" statement came out and everything afterward.  I don't know if it was on this board or somewhere else, but I also remember during the RichRod years reading posts from someone (can't remember the user name exactly) that had a Tom Brady avatar defending RichRod until the end.  Anyone remember that?  Boy how things have changed since then!

Anyway, here's to a championship tonight.  Go Blue!

Merry Christmas to all! …

Merry Christmas to all!  Hope everyone enjoys time with whoever you're with today.

Speaking of Christmas movies, watched this one last night with my two oldest kids for their first time.  The turkey scene at the end always gets me!

Took two of my kids last…

Took two of my kids last weekend to see it with one of their friends.  Not quite the story I was expecting, but I still thought it was decent.  Better than the Johnny Depp movie.  It definitely helped that this version's Wonka is closer to Gene Wilder's version.  If you have any interest in it I'd recommend seeing it.

Nice.  Another Pittsburgher here (Peters Township) via Detroit and upstate NY after graduating high school.  Proudly wearing my Michigan gear all around here, especially after the Penn State win!

That was also me 100%. …

Thanks XM for putting this…

Thanks XM for putting this on here.  Wasn't sure if anyone would do this so late in the day so I appreciate it.

My wife and I had just started dating a few months earlier.  I was working tech support for a software company in Columbus (yes, I know, born at Beaumont and grew up in Utica, long story about how I got there; we eventually left for Pittsburgh in 2012).  She went out shopping at about 8:45 AM at Meijer and didn't turn on the news at all before she left, thinking there wasn't much going on that morning.  Someone in her checkout line mentioned something about a plane hitting the WTC and, like many of you, thought it was just some small plane.  She then got home afterward to turn on the TV and saw it all unfold from there.  At work, I think we heard some news around 9:30 about the two planes.  One of my most vivid memories was trying to search online for ANYWHERE that had news about the attack that you could access.  Keep in mind this was 2001, of course, but regardless the only site that I could even open for a while was the BBC news page where I finally got some more details.  I eventually talked to my now-wife who told me about the second tower falling and I told her, wait, that thing just does not FALL DOWN.  I couldn't believe it.  Our company shut down around 2 PM and we all went home.  We stayed at her apartment the rest of the day watching the news and just not knowing what to think.

The kicker for me personally, however, what else was happening around the time of the attacks.  My parents (WMU grads) and my grandmother were flying from Dayton, Ohio to Hilton Head at 7:45 AM that morning.  So, while this is all happening, they are in the air, eventually getting rerouted to Atlanta so they could land the plane.  As they told me afterward, the captain first just told them they would have to circle the airport for a while, and then about 10 minutes later that they were landing NOW.  They, of course, had no idea what was happening until they landed and got into the terminal to see all the news coverage on TV.  Around noon my dad got ahold of my brother to let him know they had landed and were OK.  By the grace of God, they were able to get a rental car and drive up to Hilton Head that afternoon when, as many of you know, cars were pretty much all gone by that point. No luggage and had to buy clothes when they got there, but the main thing was they were OK.

My Dad worked with a guy that was on the plane from Boston that was hijacked.  He found out a few days later when it was confirmed he was on the flight.  The whole thing is still hard to believe but I remember it every year on the anniversary.  One of those things you'll never forget.

Still have the 45 from when my Dad got it many years ago.  I remember someone playing it at a birthday party when I was 7 or 8 years old.  Great win last night, and here's to another great win tomorrow!

This came out after our family left Detroit in 1984, but am glad someone made this available so we can still hear it now.  I have lots of memories hearing classics on WRIF like "96 Beers" as a kid.  I'm pretty sure I had a few pints of Stroh's ice cream as a kid as well!

Not that I don't like the…

Not that I don't like the originals, but here are three I haven't seen listed yet:

Beck Bogert Appice - Superstition (Stevie Wonder).  Many people don't know that Stevie Wonder wrote the song originally for Jeff Beck, but was pressured to release his version first.  BBA's version is fantastic, as you might expect.

Coroner - I Want You (She's So Heavy) (The Beatles).  For me, this is one of those songs that stays true to the original but definitely has the band bring in their own take on it and works perfectly.  They even end it the same way as the original, as it should be.  I don't know if this is my all time favorite cover, but it's definitely in my top three.

Voivod - Astronomy Domine (Pink Floyd).  Again, a great take on a classic song.  Enjoy!

Wow, this is really hard to believe.  One of the all time best, without question.  Was lucky enough to see him twice in 95 and 99.  It may not be all well known as his other work, but I'll always be partial to the BBA album.  Short-lived but man, what a record!  Here they are with their version of "Morning Dew" with Jeff playing a Les Paul, no less!  He will be greatly missed.

Still have the 45 single of that.  Whenever I hear it now I now can't help think of MGrowOld's comments about how some of the former players hated it LOL.

Can't help but think of this…

That's how I first heard of…

That's how I first heard of him when I was a kid, speaking of donuts.  I remember my dad taking us to his donut shop when I was around 7 or 8 years old.  It wasn't until later when I learned how great of a player he was.  Get well soon, Mickey!

Been waiting for this day to ask this question.  I'm hoping someone on here can identify who this #3 player is in this picture.  This is from, of all things, the record sleeve (yes, LP) from the group 3.  They were an off-shoot of Emerson, Lake & Palmer with Robert Berry filling the role of Greg Lake.  Their debut album came out in 1988 and had a bunch of pictures on the sleeve of things in groups of three or with the number 3.  One of these pictures was this player from one of the pre-1988 teams.  Any guesses?

Enos Cabell - I think I still have an autographed picture of him somewhere circa 1982

Pepe Sanchez - saw him play in college against Dayton I believe
