07/16/2018 - 12:01pm I'm coming up on 20 years of…

I'm coming up on 20 years of marriage.  I used the 2.5x monthly salary to get in the ballpark of what I wanted to spend.  It has to hurt a little to prep you for the pain you will feel for the rest of your life. j/k

When I look at that ring now it is almost an embarrassment to me it looks so tiny.  I guess my "words of wisdom" are to understand in 20 years you should be doing a lot better and if you are still married to the same one, your pain now won't even be a blip then.  Get something that can be accessorised.  I have bought her various wraps and things like that which can be added to the original while keeping it as a centerpiece.

Even though that ring will look puny to you, she will never want to part with it or "upgrade".

07/15/2018 - 4:55pm I do think in JB's system in…

I do think in JB's system in takes a PG 2 years to really understand the system.  That doesn't lend itself well to 1-and-done players or those that think they are.  There are a lot of moving pieces that a kid coming from HS and AAU hasn't seen before.  Recognizing them then reacting is different than seeing and thinking.

Like others said, good luck to him except when they play Michigan.  He made the choice that he thought best for his future.  Only time will tell if he was correct.

06/27/2018 - 5:52pm Coincidence?

We were…

Coincidence?

We were planning to relocate next fall.  I've been procrastinating like hell on some things around the house that need done to sell.

This morning I arrived at work 10 minutes early.  I sat in the parking lot because I could not bring myself to go in early.  Once inside, after logging into work systems I started job searching on my phone.  I found one that really interests me and decided I am going to apply now rather than wait.

I think a lot of my misery is a result of no garden this year.  I work in telecom and coming home to work in the garden is where I find peace.  With the potential move at hand I decided to focus on that instead of a garden.

I see now it was probably a mistake.

06/09/2018 - 9:35pm Viewing it on a desktop …

Viewing it on a desktop (Opera) for the 1st time.  I didn't care for the mobile site layout.  The new desktop is just enough like the old that it isn't jarring like visiting a place you lived after 10 or 20 years and all your landmarks are gone.

Too much whitespace would be the only thing I'd like to see changed.  The rest of it will probably feel more like home soon.

05/23/2018 - 11:37am Black 1987 Ford Tempo LX

Not my 1st or favorite car but it was a tank. I paid $400 and only put struts, fuel tank, oil & gas in it for the 3 years I owned it. I sold it for $450 when I bought my 4 door s-10 blazer.

Decent on gas, decent ride, but certainly not a chick magnet. I was coming off a major breakup/cancelled engagement so it matched my mood at the time.

05/06/2018 - 11:01am Maybe it's mostly about father-son time?

I coached my son's baseball up until he was 12.  At 12 I felt it better to turn him and his teammates over to someone else before they reached high school.  Even after i was no longer their official coach I would assist with hitting.

During my son's senior season whenever he had a bad game at the plate he would ask me to go to the cage with him.  It was very special to me knowing he chose not to purse baseball after college and those few times remaining would be our last baseball moments.

I just mentioned to my wife the other day i miss playing catch with him.

05/01/2018 - 9:20am The SEC had 8 teams in the tournament.

ESPN doesnt hype the B1G. The SEC had two teams in the Sweet 16, same as the B1G.

05/01/2018 - 9:08am Pro Baseball Does Everything Possible to Lose Interest

As mentioned above it will make the already far too long regular season useless and even more unwatchable. The 1st season I can recall with clarity is the 1980 season when Philadelphia won the championship. That season lasted April 9 to October 21.

Last season was nearly a full month longer at April 2 to November 1.

I'm also 99% certain that the World Series games start later now. The later start makes it impossible for young kids to watch the world series and be interested in baseball from a 1st hand perspective. Ditto the All-star Game.

04/25/2018 - 2:07pm I like the 3 year lock with 1 change

The scholarship can go to a walk on currently on the team for the remainder of the lock.

04/21/2018 - 11:34am Dying or dead

I work for a telecom provider and can't believe that people still order landlines.  I would guess that at least 50% of landlines have disappeared since I started though.  When I was hired it was the dot-com boom era and just about everyone was ordering a second line for their AOL dialup on 56k modem.

04/17/2018 - 10:01am Speculation

I had read several stories that he isnt someone comfortable with the limelight. He is good as a HC at a smaller school or an assistant at a big school, but not as The Man at a big school.

Many thought he would land as a HC at a smaller school before he joined the staff at Michigan.

04/13/2018 - 7:13pm Last year

I remember last year kickoffs were high and dropped at the goal line or inside the 5.  It gave the returner hope that he could get a decent return because of position, but because the ball was so high it ended up most times with a short return inside the 25.

I don't think this rule change would affect that strategy at all.

04/12/2018 - 9:47am Back in the day

I had mine out before laproscope. I was 12 and was restricted 4-6 weeks. I have a cool scar. My wife had hers removed last year and she said it just felt like she overdid abs day. No noticeable scars either.

Get well Aubrey. Heal up and be ready for fall.

*My surgery was the day of my sister's birthday. She still says I ruined her 6th birthday.

04/09/2018 - 3:58pm Probably an unpopular choice here

I have family in Athens, Ga. Easter was a recon trip with my wife. She gave the ok, so things are in motion to relocate.

It's a college town close to several cities and except for 2 months of the year the weather is good. Only downside to me is the SEC football stench, but I have no problem watching other sports.

04/01/2018 - 6:36pm This is the most complete team M will play.

They can hit 3's or pound it inside. Brunson may be their best postup player, Spellman can hit 3s, and Bridges is more than capable of carrying the team.

Their losses came against good teams in The Big East when they had injuries.

Michigan can win and hopefully will, but anyone thinking Villanova resembles Sparty or any team in the Big Ten is mistaken.

I think the key will be to frustrate their bench. DiVincenzo tries to do too much if frustrated and can be turnover prone. Once that starts the rest of the bench also gets unsettled.

Michigan wins when they get to Villanova's bench.

03/30/2018 - 3:43pm Trapping out of the hedge

That is what I have seen the biggest struggle against. Houston did it very well early in the game and the biggest adjustment I saw before halftime was to setup the offense higher draw in the defense out and leaving more space for the defender to recover.

Switching hasn't been a problem except for not seeing the mismatch. I expect switches, hedges, and traps for the rest of the tournament.

03/26/2018 - 8:51am Rules Violation?

Not that Calapari has ever been one to be concerned with rules but I think it is a violation to directly contact players on other teams.

If it was legal I'm sure most teams would have phone banks set up to call every potential graduate transfer.

03/23/2018 - 11:52am ESPN achieved their goal

"A record-setting eight teams have been selected to the 2018 NCAA Men'sBasketball Tournament. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas A&M will represent the conference."

How many better teams didn't get in because the 4-letter network has an agenda to push? None of them won a sweet 16 game.

03/20/2018 - 12:40pm It's about offensive scheme

I coach to play up tempo offense. 60-75 percent of our scores come off transition. 2-3 leads to much slower offense.

Our base is 1-3-1, but we also mix in m2m. We will do 2-3 conditionally if we are up big to run the clock or if we are down big to change the pace of the game.

With no shot clock in scholastic basketball 2-3 is problematic if you are behind. Also, im not a fan of watching slow basketball.

Edit: I tried teaching pack-line but they just couldn't grasp it.

03/18/2018 - 11:26pm The clean block at the other

The clean block at the other end giving him 4 was total BS called by an out of position ref.

03/18/2018 - 11:03am She woke up my daughter

My wife yelled so loud at the winning shot it startled the dog and woke up my daughter. I picked the right one to marry and after being married 17 years she gives me little reminders like that to show me how lucky I am.

03/16/2018 - 9:33am Matta to Pittsburgh?

That would be interesting.

03/14/2018 - 11:11am One and done enforcement

It can be done without the pro cba but it won't be as elegant. Every scholarship counts for 2 years. If a player leaves after one, that scholarship can't be filled the next year.

One work around could be that a current walk on could fill it for the 2nd year.

03/13/2018 - 10:13pm I think it is for the NIT

It keeps the NIT with at least 2 17 seeds.  Otherwise the NIT's #1's would be 19 seeds.

03/13/2018 - 10:05pm March Madness App

You can't login to the march Madness App with DTVNow.  I know the channels are there but the app just makes it more convenient.  They advertise DTVNow hard on the app too.

03/10/2018 - 10:02pm Great Game

I love Big East officiating.  They let them play the game.

Then I briefly flipped over to the ACC championship.  A Virginia player breathed on a UNC player and they called a foul.  There is such a disparity in what constitutes a foul that I think it will be a factor in the tournament depending on officials.

03/10/2018 - 5:44pm They don't play defense

The same thing that drove me crazy about JB before this year.  Providence is a tough matchup for a lot of teams but to blow a 17 point lead is inexcusable.  Xavier has been blowing big leads all year and good/great offense covers up the problem.  I'm somewhat surprised because I don't remember their defense being this horrid before.

03/08/2018 - 6:53pm Malls are a graveyard

The local one has (had?) Sears, Macys, JCPenny, and Toys R Us.  I think they are all gone or going and BonTon has filed for protection.  I don't go there but I drive by it at least 2x a day.

I think many of malls will soon be car dealerships and medical facilities.

03/08/2018 - 2:05pm ESPN doesn't carry the tournament

If they are going to politic it will be for a marginal SEC/ACC team.

03/07/2018 - 7:18pm Defense

Chatman was the worst defender I ever saw in D1 basketball.  It's like he never played defense before college and that was from when JB didn't put a premium on defense.

At times Livers has been lost inside but that is because of switching/not switching and I can understand that.  It also got better as the season went along.  Many times Chatman was completely on the wrong side of the floor from who he was supposed to be guarding.

03/07/2018 - 1:44pm I'd love to

I hate my job but it's stable and I'm very close to early retirement with a fat lump sum pension and medical. There is no way I could recoup the difference in the lump present value and future value in a short time.

In other words, The Man has me under his thumb and there is nothing I can do about it.

03/07/2018 - 12:27pm I worked 3rd shift once

It was a warehouse job during summer break. I had never realized the bars could be packed at 8am until I went out with some coworkers.

03/07/2018 - 12:21pm Wouldn't he be working on a Monday?

Drunk and driving before noon on a workday should check all the boxes for termination.

Although he didn't have 5 dead hookers in the trunk that we know of.

03/06/2018 - 6:47pm He will be a very good coach

He played high level ball at a high level program and his pop is a coach.  There are much worse things than spending your years helping to shape the lives of young men and women through sports.

Whatever he does decide to do I believe he will be successful because of what he has already accomplished and how he did it.

03/06/2018 - 6:38pm I cant wait to show these

I cant wait to show these pictures to Pap Dotts (my wife's grandfather).  We have dinner with him every Wednesday and the talk always turns to his navy days.  He got his diploma and left high school early to join the navy at the tail end of WWII.  He made a career of it and is still a navy man through-and-through.

He enjoys when I show him things like this or the history of the ships he was on and bases he visited.

03/06/2018 - 6:29pm This is why JB gets better

I freely admit I was down on him because his teams didn't play defense.  But, when a veteran coach is willing to learn and grow even at the twighlight of his career great things can happen.

03/06/2018 - 12:26pm This article explains tOSU basketball

I remember reading it when originally posted. The article explained, to me at least, the early success and late season struggles of tOSU.

New coach, new system, and talent made them potent early. Later, everyone had enough film to know tendencies and adjustments.

03/04/2018 - 8:59pm Big Teske fan here

I love his defense and have all year.  Now that he's had a breakout offensive game he's officially a player that other teams will have to figure in game planning.

03/03/2018 - 12:14pm Ref Crew?

Is it going to be the same crew as Michigan's 1st game or the Wisconsin game?  That crew(s) called every touch as a foul.

03/03/2018 - 10:04am Film

It took a little while for the rest of the B10 to get enough film since they have a new coach.

The importance of film

03/01/2018 - 7:25pm I would pay to watch that

They could do it as a PPV and donate the money to a scholarship fund.

02/26/2018 - 9:48am As it should

MSG is not in B1G footprint* and is all about money grab.  MSG is the site of the Big East Tournament.  B1G playing there makes no sense.

*The Rutgers excuse is not valid because...Rutgers.

02/25/2018 - 10:13am Is his upside limited by age?

He was an older freshman and played 4 years.  He's 23 now and will be 24 in the fall.

Robinson will be 24 shortly after the NCAA tournament concludes as well.  These guys are playing exactly how an older upper classman should play.

02/20/2018 - 5:17pm You Will

"Man I really want to see what Gregg Marshall can do at a P5 program. "

You will when Texas hires him.

02/19/2018 - 10:30am IP addresses

Aren't you able to see the IP that users have when they login?  A long time ago I was doing technical help for another message board and it was really easy to ban by IP or at least see multiple users coming in on the same IP.

While not 100% foolproof it did make it easy when users were posting, then logging out, then loggin in again as a different user.

02/18/2018 - 4:27pm Comparing Conference Officials

I am not a Steratore fan for basketball.  I don't watch much pro football so he doesn't bother me there.

Big East officials in general are much better than B10 officials.  They allow more physical play but will call things that should be called.  There is much better flow in the games.

They also don't stop the game for several minutes to give a team with 1 timout a freebie.  I don't care if it was to review the clock, the shouldn't have had the extended stoppage there.  Steratore is becoming famous for his stoppages to look at replay.  This isn't the NFL!

02/17/2018 - 1:16pm It's OK

Until a few posts above your I thought we were talking basketball too.  There was no football mention in the title or thread, the kid is a center, and it's basketball season.

Edit:  There were Tark references too.

02/16/2018 - 12:13am Yes

Except for that year, Jay Wright and Rick Barnes are the top two bracket busting coaches.

02/15/2018 - 10:42pm Villanova has commenced their

Villanova has commenced their usual tournament choking early. Really, I don't see anyone as a lock right now. They all have warts and it is going to make a great NCAA Basketball Tournament.

02/11/2018 - 4:16pm There is the real answer

Ryan was a HoF coach and kept Wisconsin very good for a very long time.  They need to change coaches but HoF coaches aren't easy to find.  Wisconsin was Rutgers-level bad before Bennett/Ryan and all signs point to them going back there.
