Kudos to the Spartan fan Kudos to the Spartan fan for finally acknowledging the facts that we've all known for a long time.
I believe you're right...

Sounds like Mattison said something like that-- that the football scholarship would give the kid a unique opportunity to attend a school with a great academic reputation.  The dad chose to take it as an insult.  I feel sorry for the kid, with a dad like that.

Then the kid goes on the radio and trashes Mattison?  I'm so glad he deselected himself from the Michigan team!  I imagine the Nebraska coaches are feeling a little queasy about now.

"Idiot" seems pretty mild, not in same league with with f***** In my experience, people rarely use the term "idiot" to refer to people who actually have subnormal intelligence. It seems to be used by people to put down those who they think are speaking or behaving illogically, ignorantly, or in some other unapproved manner. In wisdom traditions, it is also used in connection with people who have unusual perceptivity in subtle phenomena-- spiritual realities, if you will. (In an insane world, the sane man appears to be mad.). See Idries Shah's excellent book "The Wisdom of the Idiots." St. Francis of Assisi even referred to himself as an idiot.
I believe you're right It seems reasonable to suppose that President Schlissel was working behind the scenes with an athletic "brain trust" for weeks before firing Brandon. Hackett had probably worked out an oral agreement with JH before Schlissel pulled the plug on DB. Other candidates would need to be placed in their "swim lanes" in case something crazy and unexpected would've derailed the Harbaugh hire. A very credible person informed me on Nov. 14th that the Harbaugh hire was a "done deal." He also said "don't be surprised if Hackett stays on as permanent AD."
Delightful Amazon Reviews

Thanks for posting the link to the Amazon reviews of Rosenberg's book.  Very entertaining reading.  Much better, I'm sure, than anything he's ever written.

I especially liked this bon mot from a reviewer named Louis Powell:  I recommended it highly for those who are heavily medicated but still require more sedation for sleep.

Who says Jim Harbaugh turned down UM?

What is the basis for saying Jim Harbaugh turned down Michigan after Rich Rod was fired?  Like a lot of people, I *assumed* that Brandon must have offered the job to JH and Les Miles, but then settled on Hoke.  This is what a normal, reasonable, intelligent person would have done.  But we've learned since then that Dave Brandon is a truly "special" guy!  Various reports now have it that Brandon never offered the job to Harbaugh or Miles-- that Hoke was his choice from the get-go.  Knowing what we've learned about Brandon, it now makes perfect sense that he  wanted Hoke over the others.

It means a lot

The professionals in Vegas are good at making money.  They can smell it when people are betting with inside information and that's when they stop taking the bets.

There are a lot of people around Ann Arbor who have heard from credible sources that Jim is coming to Michigan.  It's a done deal.  They just have to wait for the proper time to announce it.

Yes, we can thank Mary Sue

You make four good points, but the before the first item you mentioned, she messed up the hiring of Les Miles.  According to Bacon in Three and Out, Martin was in the process of hiring Miles (by telephone), but Mary Sue insisted on meeting him face to face first, which Miles couldn't do right away since he was preparing his team for the big bowl game.  LSU got wind of the talks and made Miles the offer he couldn't refuse (unless he had a deal with UM, which he probably would have had, if Mary Sue had let Martin do his job).

People in the know... ...have known for weeks that the job's been offered to Jim Harbaugh and he's accepted. They've known that Hoke is out. Hackett was pretty clear about that in his public statements before the Maryland game for those able to read between the lines. (And Hoke listed his house for sale last week--you can look it up.) Respectable and semi-respectable media types and public figures are keeping quiet because they don't want to burn their confidential sources and they don't want to mess up the JH hire and then have egg on their face if the deal falls through. Didn't some guy let the cat out of the bag a couple weeks ago and then had to try to get it back in there? I'm sure Tyrone (the next RBs coach?) was pretty annoyed with that guy. Some are even putting out smoke screens to make people think JH is not the guy. The timing has to be right vis-a-vis the 49ers situation. This post is intended for those interested in information, not speculation. I can pass this along because I'm just an anonymous guy on a blog who'd like to see folks R-E-L-A-X and I'm not going to give you my source. Just a guy who should stop drinking and go to bed (me, not my source). But pretty soon we'll all be singing "Happy days are here again..."
It's already happened... ...they just have to wait a little longer before announcing the Jim Harbaugh hire. BTW, heard today (yesterday, actually, got to stop drinking and go to bed) that Coach Hoke's house has just been listed for sale.
It's Jim Harbaugh OK fans, in the immortal words of Aaron Rodgers, R-E-L-A-X. Jimbo will be the new coach. Be patient and wait for the announcement. You can't expect Schlissel and Hackett to discuss things in public until the time is right.
U-M / Jim Harbaugh fans will be happy Don't know about the 45 days part, but those who want Jim at UM will be very happy. Someone I consider to be credible and informed told me it is a "done deal." It's just a matter of timing the announcement. And don't be surprised if Mr. Hackett stays on as AD.
What about rawk? Great to hear he got his press credentials back. It would also be nice to learn that the loud music is now gone from the stadium PA system. I wasn't at the Indiana game-- can anyone report on the status of the amplified "music?"

Said it

Mark to Dave

Said it all:

pride goeth before a fall

Bright Faces

Dark skies, falling sleet

Bright faces, happy street
