02/22/2010 - 9:21am CC as in...?

Colorado College? Kesler only went to Ohio State. Went for one year then turned pro. His dad played college hockey at CC.

02/21/2010 - 11:20pm Hmmm....

I'm all for rooting for Team USA, but the thought of putting a former Ohio State Buckeye as my computer background at work... no thanks!

02/02/2010 - 4:24pm MILF special...

I remember the MILF special they ran because, naturally, some folks didn't find it funny. I thought it was hilarious. And now the MUFF diving special? Awesome.

02/02/2010 - 4:02pm IIRC...

There was an article in The A2 News a few years ago when Hart was at Michigan where he talked about wanting to coach the team some day. It may have been about Wheatley, too, since he had just started coaching. I just remember Fred Jackson saying he could tell which players would go on to be good coaches because when he teaches them, they don't just do what he says, they pick his brain and want to know why they're doing what they're doing, and that in all his years the two who did it most were Wheatley and Hart and that's why he felt they would go on to become good coaches some day.

It's great to hear Hart continue to say that he wants to coach here one day, that it wasn't something he was just throwing out there, but he really meant it. That kid bleeds maize n' blue and would take a bullet for this program, and hopefully we will see him on the sidelines again in the future.

01/31/2010 - 3:15am For clarification, talkin' b-ball, not hockey...

Feb. 6 is also the day of the big outdoor hockey game at Wisconsin, which is also must win.

01/30/2010 - 8:58pm What if the black bear...

Was the Masturbating Bear?

01/18/2010 - 12:46pm Cool down...

I guess I'm still a bit curious if there's more to it. I mean, wasn't it last month or earlier this month that TomVH talked to Tony and Tony mentioned how he hadn't heard from the U-M coaches before Tom told him it was a no contact period (which also made it sound like other schools may have still been contacting him)? I've wondered since then if that dead period (which he apparently didn't know about?) influenced Tony negatively, if that's why he felt the coaches were cooling on him because he hadn't heard from them even though they couldn't contact him. Not saying that the Michigan coaches didn't just come out and say, "Hey, we're full, sorry," but it's just odd between the TomVH interview and how quickly this one spiraled downhill with Murphy going to Maryland and Grimes now looking elsewhere. Probably looking too much into it...

01/07/2010 - 1:51pm Earnest Thomas...

Anything known about Orchard Lake St. Mary's safety Earnest Thomas? Three star recruit on both Rivals and Scout just decommitted yesterday from UCLA. Not sure how long ago the offer sheets on the sites were updated, but it looks like he has offers from pretty much all the Big Ten (minus Michigan/Michigan State), UCLA, Stanford, Missouri, and West Virginia. Was curious if there's any Michigan interest there as possibly a fall back if any of our other targets fall through.

12/19/2009 - 11:28am I'm originally a troll...

Who has been a converted Yooper for about 12 years now. Went to NMU and now live in Marquette. Summer and fall here rule.

12/11/2009 - 8:54pm 3-1 Michigan

Halfway through the second period.

Hagelin, Lebler, and Moffie with the U-M goals.

12/10/2009 - 5:34pm How about we spice up this Tiger post then...

NOTE: Includes NSFW photos...

New porn flick coming soon--Tiger's Wood.…

12/10/2009 - 4:33pm Haithcock... the jabroni who banned the hockey pep band director from dancing at Yost Ice Arena. It had been a LONG standing tradition for the pep band director to dance in the third period if Michigan was winning and he felt the game was over. Despite outcries from the entire Yost faithful and e-mail bombardment, he stuck to his excuses for why it should be banned. IIRC, one of the excuses was his complaint that TV zooms in on the director's crotch when he dances, even though (a) that has never happened and (b) if it did then why doesn't he take it up with TV? That's not the director's fault. Another was that he couldn't put the director must be able to dance in a job description. Uh, none of the previous ones had it in their job duties, but they all danced. It just comes with the gig and if they look dumb during it, the more entertaining it is to the fans. But Haithcock wouldn't listen to logic and tradition. Good luck getting him to change his mind on anything.

11/28/2009 - 8:23pm Live blog... - at the game doing a Cover It Live chat

11/27/2009 - 7:24pm Live coverage is doing a CiL chat from the game if you're unable to watch and want to follow along.

11/23/2009 - 11:20pm Eh, not concerned about Austin...

Just look at his stats with the NTDP this season... 2-4-6 in 18 games. Not very impressive. A lot of folks were high on him because he did well with the Under-17 Team last year, but so far with the Under-18 Team he hasn't done much.

11/21/2009 - 9:14pm The skid is over! Michigan wins 4-1!

11/21/2009 - 7:36pm Michigan up 3-1

End of the 1st period.

Yeah, saw had a video link like they did last night. Didn't realize it went to the BGSU pay feed.

11/17/2009 - 5:53am Game time...

The game between Wisconsin and Michigan starts at 5 p.m. Central Time. There is a women's game at 2 p.m.

11/08/2009 - 6:13pm Another question...

Should they try moving Mike Williams to Stevie Brown's role in 2010?

10/30/2009 - 9:26pm 5-1 final

Michigan dominates, though penalties are a concern. Took a few too many.

10/24/2009 - 11:50am Red...

Red benched Marty Turco for one game his senior year when he found out Marty skipped a class. The game he missed was a big one, too... Michigan at Michigan State in February with CCHA regular season title implications. IIRC, they were in a dead heat in the standings and the winner would be in the driver's seat. State won the game.

I also remember him benching Milan Gajic for a weekend or two for falling behind in his classwork. And he's done that with other players as well.

10/06/2009 - 12:05pm Conspiracy...

How about Washington's overturned touchdown late in the 4th quarter? Ruled a touchdown, video replay (IMO) was inconclusive. The camera was at an angle, not right on the goal line, so how the replay official can conclusively say the ball was at the 1/2 yard line instead of on the goal line is beyond me (it was close, though a half yard seems like a rather obvious gap). Then Washington couldn't score with like eight tries at the goal line and kicked a field goal, ND gets the ball back and drives to win.

10/03/2009 - 3:26pm Crappy finish...

To an otherwise outstanding come back. We really had no business being in this game after how terrible we were the first three quarters, but Tate is gold in the 4th quarter. The INT in overtime sucked, but it was a great diving grab by the MSU player in the end zone. Regardless of the finish, Tate is the man. I just wish we could have seen that intensity and urgency out of the team the other three quarters.

10/03/2009 - 2:45pm Stonum!

Just made up for that fumble with that TD catch. Four minutes left, down seven, come on defense!

10/03/2009 - 2:27pm And I'm all for...

Denard Robinson seeing some playing time, but when you're down 14 points at the start of the 4th quarter, WTF are they thinking? Three and out and they lost 14 yards in the process. I don't think Tate has played bad...couple of dropped passes and he's been getting pressured...and Tate has also been strong in the 4th quarter. Down 14, you need to drive the field and put some points up, but you put in Denard, who is pretty much a runner? I'm not following some of the decisions the coaches are making today, but maybe that's just me.

Michigan just recovered a fumble, started to drive (with Tate), and now Stonum loses a fumble. Friggin' A, man...

10/03/2009 - 1:50pm Ugh...

4th and inches on the MSU 17 and they try a fake punt? If you're gonna go for it, GO FOR IT. Just QB sneak with Tate. That was terrible.

10/03/2009 - 1:46pm I'd be happy...

If we could stop a friggin' third down. 3rd and 17, 3rd and 8, 3rd and whatever, MSU just keeps converting them. It's killing us.

And just as I finished typing that, Roh hits Cousins and Warren gets an INT!

09/23/2009 - 9:30pm I'm assuming...

You don't clap for TDs at Lions games because all the TDs are scored by the opposing team.

09/17/2009 - 10:11am What's dumber is...

Rothstein's headline...

"Whether it was a punch or not, Michigan linebacker Jonas Mouton should sit against Eastern Michigan"

Does that even make sense? So *if* it's *not* a punch, Mouton should sit anyway? Huh?!

I think it's more of a love tap than a punch. When I think punch I think of what LeGarrette Blount did. What Mouton did pales in comparison. Not saying I condone it, though I don't know what Mouton's intent was (unlike that Wisconsin player who tried to twist Breaston's ankle and he got nothing but "internal discipline"). *If* he intended to do it, it was cheap, but in games between rivals where emotions and chippiness run high, we've all see much worse than that either get nothing or just a personal foul. I think if a ref saw it, it'd be a 15 yard penalty and nothing more. But benching him because no foul was called during the game?

09/14/2009 - 3:08pm The Shhhh...

1:13 into the video you see "The Shhhhh!" (sounds like a Seinfeld thing).

09/13/2009 - 9:49am I think I got a new favorite image...

To go right next to the Alan Branch/Anthony Morelli classic...

Another Seinfeld reference... "Oh yeah, Jimmy's ready. Jimmy's got some new moves. Check Jimmy out! Ooohhh! JIMMY'S DOWN!"

Brandon Graham looks like he's ready to eat him alive!

09/02/2009 - 7:16pm Maybe he's suffering a Roundtree...

And just needs to get his vision checked.

The only player I felt comfortable with fielding punts last season was Greg Mathews. He's most likely not going to break one to the end zone, but his hands are very solid and as long as he holds on to the ball, that's all that matters.

09/02/2009 - 1:58pm Billboard was by former ND linebacker Tom Reynolds

It also says they made t-shirts!

He said he hopes to defray the cost of the billboard, whatever it was, by selling the green T-shirts.

“We'd like to have a sea of green,” said Reynolds, who did not have a set price for the T-shirts or a set location where people could find them.

Come on, Brian, offer the shirt!

09/02/2009 - 10:34am Tyler Moore

Florida OT Tyler Moore received a written offer, though our chances appear to be slim to none. His father and other relatives played at Nebraska, so they appear to be the team to beat. According to his father, Tyler's top four are Nebraska, Florida, Ohio State, and Penn State.…

09/01/2009 - 9:28pm It reminds me of LOST

Well, before the season finale, we always heard about the mysterious leader named Jacob, who gives all the island orders but we never saw him or anything.

08/31/2009 - 2:36pm Exactly!

As cheesy as it sounds, "All in for Michigan" has taken on a whole new meaning for me over the past 24 hours. Outside forces continually want to dump on RichRod and the Wolverine program and it really has become an "Us vs. the World" feeling to me. It's time for the real Wolverine fans to stand up and show their support for the program! These kids could really use the unity of Wolverine nation on Saturday.

08/30/2009 - 1:12pm It's like pieces of flair...

I need to talk about your flair.

Really? I have 15 buttons on. I, uh, (shows him

Well, ok, 15 is minimum, ok?

Now, it's up to you whether or not you want to just do the bare minimum. Well, like Brian, for example, has 37 pieces of flair. And a terrific smile.

Ok. Ok, you want me to wear more?

Look. Joanna.

People can get a cheeseburger anywhere, ok? They come to Chotchkie's for the atmosphere and the attitude. That's what the flair's about. It's about fun.

Ok. So, more then?

Look, we want you to express yourself, ok? If you think the bare minimum is enough, then ok. But some people choose to wear more and we encourage that, ok? You do want to express yourself, don't you?

Yeah. Yeah.

Great. Great. That's all I ask.

When I ran cross country at one of the A2 high schools, we always had "voluntary" Saturday morning runs. Of course you weren't forced to go, however since most of the other runners did (including the top runners on the team, who were All-State caliber and one was state champion), the feeling was always that you should show up unless you had a good excuse and they (including the coach) would probably give you some crap over missing it. Did I feel some pressure to show up? Probably, since everyone else was, but it's not like it was the end of the world if I didn't. I've always felt that was just a part of sports, myself, doing the extra stuff to show how committed you are to yourself and your team.

08/24/2009 - 6:28pm 2000 Orange Bowl

Michigan vs. Alabama...had front row end zone seats in the end zone of the game winning TD and Alabama's missed extra point. Great game with U-M twice coming back from a 14 point deficit. Shaun Alexander was a beast, as was the monster that was Tom Brady to David Terrell. It was New Year's in Miami, so it was warm and there were a lot of other events going on. Spent a few extra days down there.

08/10/2009 - 4:29pm That report...

Confirms that they weren't with the team today. It doesn't mean they are both completely ineligible, no?

RichRod said last week they were waiting on some paperwork for Turner and hoped it would be in over the weekend so he could be there Monday. Perhaps it just hasn't gotten in yet?

08/06/2009 - 5:23pm Has Tom Beaver confirmed this?

Until Beaver confirms with Jeremy Jackson that indeed Jeremy Jackson wrote on Jeremy Jackson's Facebook page that he is changing positions, I will have to take Jeremy Jackson's own words with a grain of salt.

07/27/2009 - 12:01pm +1 point

To whoever asked the question about Zoltan Mesko!

07/24/2009 - 6:05pm You betta recognize!

Even recognizes the greatness. That's a change of pace.…

07/17/2009 - 10:36pm Brown & first rounders

Mitera and Summers stayed all four, but that's a rarity these days. Some guys stay because they love it, and yes, they definitely could have left early. But Brown, based on his interviews before and after the draft, seems to have a bit more of the Pacioretty/Palushaj mindset than he does Mitera/Summers. And I'm sure he's already got a "family advisor" in his ear, too.

As for first round draft picks who have stayed all four years, I believe there have only been four... Summers, Mitera, Eric Nystrom, and Jason Botterill.

07/13/2009 - 9:59pm Maybe RichRod swears...

Because it's scientifically proven to be healthy.

07/08/2009 - 5:22am Also...

Please politely* tell him to stop with the lame headlines. "U-M gets Gallon of jet fuel"?? That's awful. Do they really pay someone to come up with these things?

07/07/2009 - 9:34am Playoffs...

I hate the "it gives fans something to argue about" argument, too. That is beyond stupid. Fans don't want something to argue about. They want a freakin' undisputed champion!

I don't like the proposed eight team format, however, because that will leave way too much argument. Like every other college sport, I believe every conference needs to be represented. Thus, a 16 team playoff format.

There are 11 conferences. Every conference champion gets an auto bid. The other five bids go to at-large teams, to be determined by your BCS standing or whatever computer ranking system they want to implement.

Use the BCS standings (or whatever) to seed teams #1-16. The eight opening round games are played at the home team's field. Maybe play the four second round games at neutral sites (i.e. the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl), ditto the semifinals and championship game. It's a four week tourney, so for instance if they were to start the tourney this December 12, it would lead right up to the January 2 weekend around when they would normally hold these games, so the timing works out fine. As for teams that don't make the tourney, put them in the usual bowl games and let them get their payout.

Part of the issue right now is that smaller conferences don't get a fair shake in the BCS, so under this scenario every conference gets a crack at the championship (something that WOULDN'T happen under an eight team format).

11 conference champions, five at-large bids, four weeks, one true national champion.

07/07/2009 - 8:38am What makes you think...

That Drew Dileo and the other 5 receiver recruits DIDN'T work for an offer? Obviously the coaching staff liked something about them that they don't about Hankins or else Jonathon would have an offer right now.

What makes you so sure that Hankins "would be guaranteed to contribute as a freshman?" Because he has offers from OSU and Oklahoma? He might commit to one of those schools and never see the field, like Dann O'Neill.

And as others have stated, O'Neill, by all accounts, was lazy. Did it ever occur to you that perhaps he was buried on the depth chart because he wasn't very good? Probably not because he was a 4* recruit who was good enough for offers from Florida State and Nebraska!

You sound like Rivals/Scout type that John Beilein suggested needed therapy. You know, the Miami Hurricanes once recruited like you want RichRod to, by focusing on the top kids from these scouting services rather than doing their own homework. Why don't you see how that turned out for them...…

Miami recruiting coordinator Clint Hurtt said, "We spent way too much time recruiting off [Internet] lists and finding these top guys instead of truly evaluating. You can't just go off hearsay or just because Florida, Florida State or Alabama is recruiting him. That doesn't mean a thing."

Gee, sounds like someone around here...

07/06/2009 - 12:50pm Cover...

What's the word(s) behind Brandon Minor's head? Oh, the mysteries of life!

06/28/2009 - 10:32am Bennett...

I would call him a very good recruit, but not a "mega-recruit," yet. I think high first rounder when I think "mega." He's suppose to possess excellent skating and offensive abilities, but lacking in the defensive end. He certainly could develop into a mega-recruit, and I hope he continues with his plan to come to Michigan. I didn't see the interview with him the last poster mentions in which he says his parents are pushing him towards major junior (I find that interesting, if true).

The mega-recruits for 2010 (as of now) are defenseman Jon Merrill and goaltender Jack Campbell. Forward Luke Moffatt at one time was considered a mega recruit (IIRC he was taken #2 *overall* in the WHL draft), though he struggled a bit with the U.S. NTDP U17 team this past season. Hopefully he can make some strides next season as he's suppose to be very talented. Bennett, Jacob Fallon (another skilled NTDP forward), and defenseman Kevin Clare (very solid NTDP defenseman) round out the class right now. There's a couple other recruits who are 2010/2011 options.
