That's a good point. If the first receiver is the right move, it's the right move (particularly given the constant pressure). But if that's all you can do, defenses will figure that out eventually. See Peyton Manning led Broncos vs Seahawks in Superbowl 48.

I'm not saying Peters isn't the guy. But I'm not jumping to any major conclusions before we see him even look at his second/third options. And we didn't see that this game.

Peters

While I liked Peters' ball placement and pocket awareness, I didn't see him look to the #2 receiver once except maybe while on the run. He locked onto #1 and fired it before pressure got to him on most cases.

Roughing the kicker

Why do we keep going after the kicker when Peppers is your return man? At least in critical situations...

That flag was a total momentum shift in this game with 2 min left in the half when we just held OSU to another 3 and out (to my memory) and while our offense is rolling.

Let Peppers catch that ball at our 30 and run it. Give him an extra blocker instead.

Seems like this happened way too often this season.

Safety

On the safety play, is Smith supposed to run to the left behind Hill and that's why Kalis releases?

I realize there looks to be more real estate to the right and Asiasi is kicking out to the right, but there's also a kickout on the left. I just wonder if smith is supposed to make a B-line behind Hill and then there's not a chance (maybe...) for Johnson to get there.

Blitz

Was it just me, or did it seem like there were surprisingly few blitzes throughout the game? For as many 3rd down and 8s  as there were...

I guess when you get all the pressure you need with 4 man rush, you don't need to.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification @Seth and @Space Coyote.

That was the piece I was missing:

"A "Covered" TE or WR is a guy ON THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE who has another guy OUTSIDE of him on the line of scrimmage."

and

"Anyone lined up between these outer most guys is considered "covered" by the guy further outside, and these "covered" guys are automatically ineligible receivers."

Still confused...

Not to be snarky... but for a post titled "What is: a Covered Tight End/Receiver," I still can't figure out what the definition of 'covered' actually is after reading through this a couple times.

As I read it, the term seems to refer to a player who's position implies he's normally eligible to catch a pass but instead is actually ineligible based on the number of guys on/off the LoS. Or is it the relative position of guys on/off LoS? Or jersey number?

Too many different things going on simultaneously... can someone try to give a definition of 'covered' so I can have some context as I read this again? Sorry, clearly not well versed in this stuff.

Thanks for taking the time to explain.
