|08/30/2018 - 2:32pm||Anyone know of any M…||
Anyone know of any M-friendly bars in the Montclair, NJ area?
|06/19/2018 - 1:58pm||I admit to being a “Put in…||
If it makes you feel better, my (admittedly hazy) memories of those days associate Vega and Limpy much more with that sentiment. I was a firm believer in true freshman QBs sitting and senior returning starter QBs not getting benched without reason, so I'll take partial credit for having the right answer for the wrong reasons.
|02/22/2018 - 1:55pm||fun moment||
One of the highlights for me was in the replay of Bostick (I think?) going up for the monster slam and chucking the ball straight out of bounds. A dude on the PSU bench leaps into the air in anticipation, only to have to dodge the ball as it sails toward him. Anyone by any chance have a gif?
|01/31/2018 - 2:47pm||1987 Rose Bowl shirt||
My grandparents used to vacation in Palm Springs every year, and in January 1987, they took the trip to Pasadena to see the parade and the game. They brought t-shirts home to NJ for my sister and me, mine had a really cool snarling wolverine on it, and 15 years later, I had a degree from the University of Michigan. If not for the proverbial flip of a coin, I could have ended up a Sun Devil...
|07/20/2017 - 11:44am||re: Dude looks just like||
I'd say Macfarlane and Chael Sonnen's lovechild.
|06/07/2017 - 1:47pm||aww Sparty||
The highlight of the linked post about Cincinnati was definitely the repeated subtle trolling of State.
You know the teams Ohio State typically battles with on the recruiting trail, especially for players in the Midwest: Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State. Even sometimes Michigan State.
That would open up spots for a Cincinnati, or a Kentucky, or a Michigan State, to make up ground.
|02/03/2017 - 3:46pm||actually...||
As long as we're being pedantic about the place, Paramus is a public school. Paramus Catholic (aka University of Michigan Prep) is a separate entity entirely.
|10/17/2016 - 3:46pm||Harbaugh specials||
It seems like Harbaugh and Brown may value certain attributes or skills more than other coaches or scouting services. Is there anyone who could end up going Blue (2017 or beyond) who might offer more for this particular team and coaching staff than their rankings and interest lists suggest?
|05/07/2016 - 8:57am||Camp spectatoring||
Are the camps spectator events at all?
I'm sure this has come up on one of the (thousands of) other satellite camp threads, but it wasn't relevant to me before, so I didn't pay attention.
|02/22/2016 - 3:30pm||Henry's draft stock||
Todd McShay seems pretty impressed with Henry:
|11/01/2015 - 10:02am||Dee-FENSE||
Jets (against Oakland) or Vikings (against Bears)?
|10/19/2015 - 1:07pm||Falcon's apology||
"I just want to apologize to the Michigan fans."
This definitely got me; it really seems like this young man is hurting over the decisions he faces and the whole situation. I hope he realizes that he has absolutely nothing to apologize for and that whether he ends up in Ann Arbor or not, he's still earned a lot of respect from the Michigan community for how he is conducting himself. Here's wishing much success to Mr. Falcon, be it as a student at UM or a student-athlete elsewhere.
|09/21/2015 - 10:06am||Metellus||
Metellus is up to 4 stars on ESPN, 21st-ranked safety.
|04/16/2015 - 12:36pm||2004 Primetime Shootout||
Yes it's cheating based on the no-basketball-factory clause, but the 2004 Oak Hill team was kind of ridiculous; Josh Smith, Rajon Rondo, and six other future D1 players including former Wolverine great Anthony Wright.
Saw them at the 2004 Primetime Shootout, and some of the other teams I caught that day were pretty stacked too. Oak Hill was matched against Cardinal Dougherty, which had Kyle Lowry (seeing Lowry and Rondo go at it in HS was pretty sweet) and Shane Clark, and Southwest Atlantic Christian (Dwight Howard, Javaris Crittenton) played Lincoln (Sebastian Telfair, some other high-major talent).
|04/10/2015 - 7:34am||Texas||
Also, it's in Texas.
|06/05/2014 - 2:39pm||hypothetical 2015 rank||
Ace, I know hyopthetical questions are obnoxious, but where do you think Isaac would rate in this year's RB class?
|01/02/2014 - 1:24pm||Gedeon||
What's the consensus on Gedeon being a contributor next year? Most of this season has blended together into a big gray mush of a memory, but I vaguely remember being impressed with a few plays he made.
|12/18/2013 - 2:40pm||CFL/AFL||
Per Wikipedia, he's been cut from teams in both. Apparently Kirk Ferentz's reach extends to all FL's, be they N, C, or A.
|12/06/2013 - 2:15pm||Just curious||
In the experience of those who write for/read this site, are the policies Brian wrote about today harsher, more lenient, or about the same as most other team-specific CFB sites of a similar nature? My limited forays onto other team sites have generally given me an even greater appreciation for MGoBlog so I'm inclined to say most others are more lenient, but that could just be a variety of biases at work.
|11/25/2013 - 9:09pm||Maybe||
To show how passionate our fanbase is and how electric an atmosphere the Big House can be even when things are at their ebb? No offense to you personally, but y'all need to stop with this emo whininess. Have some pride in the program, in the players who are still laying it on the line out there, and in yourself as a fan and/or graduate of the University of Michigan. Let's do our part to show these kids why they should want to wear the Maize and Blue.
|11/25/2013 - 5:22pm||Go Blue||
Great news, very glad to have this young man aboard. May this be just the start of a historically great week for Michigan football.
(side note: at 32, it feels very odd to refer to someone as a "young man," but if the extremely large shoe fits...)
|08/26/2013 - 5:44pm||UDFA status -- probably OT||
Speaking of cuts, has anyone posted updates about the undrafteds and who looks to be hanging on? I've been scanning the transaction lists, but the absence of Wolverines from the cut list doesn't necessarily mean they haven't been cut, or something.
|08/19/2013 - 3:52pm||FSH piece||
Also of note, in the 2007 Syracuse comments: "Greg Robinson is a very good DC."
2008 me is very relieved to hear that.
|07/01/2013 - 11:32am||thanks for the shout-out||
I feel your pain. "Hello..." posts definitely help, though.
|05/13/2013 - 2:33pm||My other Alma Mater||
Did not expect to ever see a River Dell mention on MGoBlog (even if it is just for hosting a track meet)!
That's all, sorry for the interruption.
|04/24/2013 - 12:50pm||Clark's height||
OT as far as this thar post goes, but my fellow MGoReader doesn't work here any more, so I have no one to discuss this with...
ESPN had the first half of their exiting senior survey, and in the responses for best redshirt freshman, someone said about Jeremy Clark, "A 6-6 safety and I know he can do some things back there."
Apologies if this has been discussed before, but is Clark really 6'6" or is this a bit of the exagerrating? And are we thinking this is good (defensive Funchess! DeFunchess?) or bad (can't think of another 6'6" safety off the top of my head so it must be something that can never work)?
|03/27/2013 - 1:16pm||Museums||
Was talking to my dad last night and he mentioned that he had gone to the Palm Springs Air Museum and was able to find out a lot about a friend's father who had flown on bombers in WWII. I'm not sure if it was through someone who worked there or just a chance encounter, but if there are any airplane-related museums near you, it might be a good place to try. Even if you don't have any luck, it's not a bad way for an 11 year-old and his dad to spend an afternoon (speaking as a former 11 year-old).
|02/14/2013 - 8:45am||turtle||
Based on the timing, I think it has to be assumed this had something to do with the turtle story and its subsequent denial. Either the story disturbed him, or once it was debunked, it ruined the school's mystique. The lesson to take from this is that telling stories about legendary coaches exposing their genitals to reptiles rarely--if ever--pays off when it comes to recruiting.
|02/13/2013 - 12:39pm||Coach on the floor||
Not sure if the NCAA has the same rule, but as Jason Kidd demonstrated, a coach-player collision on the floor gets the coach a T in the NBA. Funny that the coach he smacked is now his coach.
[Edited to remove shamefully incorrect apostrophe.]
|02/12/2013 - 1:27pm||Russell Byrd||
But is Byrd more than just a (18%) shooter???
|02/08/2013 - 12:27pm||non-Wolverines||
Two thoughts reading the quotes in the Blue Chips article:
1. Why would State not offer a 6'5" 290 lbs OL who was good enough for Florida?
2. I've never been a big fan of cheering for anyone else in the Big 10, but "I'm a good eater. I can put it away." has me rooting for Gerald Holmes to have a nice career (outside of games against us).
|02/07/2013 - 12:59pm||Re: Question||
I'm too lazy to find anything to back this up, but a few years ago there was a story about Tom Brady working to improve his arm strength. The gist of it was, there are exercises/drills you can do to add a little zip to your fastball, though I seem to recall that it was a fairly intensive training process.
|12/12/2012 - 9:46am||73-59 Michigan||
|11/26/2012 - 12:41pm||Lewan||
Beer-soaked memory may be failing me, but re: sack, didn't Lewan have something similar happen in the ND game? I thought he got beat on a speed rush for a sack and then took care of business after that, much like on Saturday.
|11/22/2012 - 7:09pm||Wow||
Comments get cranky on Thanksgiving.
|11/21/2012 - 10:31am||just win, baby||
|10/17/2012 - 10:58am||Team 133, 27-12||
Big Bro, 27-12
189 rushing yards.
|10/10/2012 - 11:08am||48-12 good guys||
No idea if anyone has this already. If you do, thanks, jerk.
|08/03/2012 - 8:59am||Offerdahl||
In case anyone was curious, Offerdahl is the former Dolphin LB's son. Maybe the coffee just hasn't kicked in yet, but that was not as simple to confirm as I thought it would be.
|07/03/2012 - 4:04pm||more the latter||
It was more a reflection on him as a person than as a football player. He just annoys the hell out of me. And he ruins Sportscenter.
|07/03/2012 - 12:29pm||"Gunslinger"||
Am I the only one for whom the Brett Favre association has permanently damaged the description "QB"?
|05/31/2012 - 8:58am||perference||
I don't really have anything useful to add, I just wanted to point out the esteemed gentleman from Columbus's use of the word "perfer." Just because that's how y'all pronounce it, doesn't mean that's how it's spelled.
|05/10/2012 - 9:02pm||Obligatory, but genuine||
Best of luck to Chris on his academic and athletic future (unless and until the latter is against us, of course) .
|04/06/2012 - 12:58pm||Furman||
Does anyone have any insight into his answer about Furman? That answer seemed somewhat...ominous.
|03/23/2012 - 11:15am||Burzynski||
Burzynski's not a name I'm all that familiar with, any insight on him beyond what's on his MGOBlue profile page? Kovacs et al. have made me far more open-minded towards walkons, so I'm curious if he has a real shot to become a contributor, or at least provide non-terrifying depth.
|03/30/2011 - 3:07pm||Aaron Bruce||
This is a very minor point but if memory serves, Bruce's odd career trajectory also had to do with the transition from only decent player on a very bad, very punished team to role player on a team with a number of talented Scott Drew recruits.
|03/07/2011 - 9:39pm||Michigan wrestlers in MMA||
As long as we're on wrestling, does anyone know of any former Michigan wrestlers who have transitioned to MMA? Off the top of my head I can think guys in the UFC who wrestled at State, OSU, Penn St. and Purdue but I don't remember hearing about any Wolverines in the Octagon or any other big promotions.
|02/19/2011 - 11:10am||Godin: the anti-Boren?||
I realize everyone else with something to say probably chimed in on the original thread, but after reading this I find myself really hoping Matt Godin ends up going Blue. And I think it's great his brother got his back and did so rationally and articulately. Does this make them the diametric opposites of the Borens?
|01/21/2011 - 12:03pm||It's just as well; he won't||
It's just as well; he won't sign with any team that won't draft his brother.
|08/30/2010 - 1:04pm||re: no positives||
This may be (definitely is?) oversimplifying, but if at any point during the season Gardner gives the team a better chance to win, I see playing him as a positive. I'd love for him to have an extra year to develop but if burning a year means more wins this year, I'm okay with it. i realize how shortsighted that is, but such is college football.
