Scholarship or walk-on?
|11/04/2011 - 6:49pm||Horton||
Horton was a big recruit - ESPN the Magazine had a 2-page spread on him and everything. Amaker was quoted in that feature saying something along the lines of him being the most important recruit in a long time, and a turning point (or something to that effect) for the program.
(Unfortunately I don't have a link/picture since it was so long ago)
|10/27/2011 - 7:57am||Don't make signs, etc||
If you do go, just remember to keep any Michigan apparel/signs/etc to a minimum. Even though you're not affiliated with the school, you don't want to give a Lane-Kiffin-at-Tennessee vibe with people showing up to high school games as some sort of recruitment tool (I take it you're not a sorrority girl like Kiffin sent, but still).
Don't do anything that might make us look like we're outside the rules of the recruiting laws, even if in reality what you're doing is benign.
|06/23/2011 - 5:00pm||Yeesh.||
Maybe his players were getting free cars.
|05/07/2011 - 6:18pm||Wtf?||
You're the worst sports fan on the planet, gordie bell.
|05/07/2011 - 5:50pm||Somebody please delete this thread.||
We survived one more inning despite gordie bell's best efforts. can we wipe this out and never speak of this again?

Mods please delete this thread immediately. You're an ass.

Check out Michigan Against the World, DP at the site made them. Try emailing him.

Pryor making the list says more about OSU than it does about Pryor.
|11/29/2010 - 9:36am||Bone Marrow||
Remember - you can donate Bone Marrow, too! It's easy and involves sitting in a chair for a couple of hours. Guys like Phil Brabbs depend on people who join the registry and donate. If you join the registry you get a cheek swab and you'll only be called if there is a match. Check out the URL below for more info:

Maybe this helps with Kris Frost?
|09/16/2010 - 4:58pm||Should have been out||
I'm a resident and I deal with this sort of thing a lot, if it was not a concussion it was still borderline/severe enough to warrant him sitting out. I wrote a piece on the blog I contribute to if you want more information, but there seems to be good discussion here already.
(not to link to an outside blog for hits or anything, ignore it if you don't care)
|09/09/2010 - 2:24pm||More confident, probably||
Purdue's defense was just slower than ours. Plus, our defense should be well-equipped to handle their rushes and fakes from playing against RR's read option in practice. This game is no gimme, but I am a bit more confident after watching this. Good post.
Freakbass, wow. Amazing.
|08/30/2010 - 7:47pm||2010!||
(Sorry to nitpick, but the title confused me since I thought you had a TV schedule from the super-far future)
EDIT: Title has since been corrected, good stuff.
|08/26/2010 - 8:24pm||Not douchey||
Just ineffective. But I doubt it would hurt.
|08/26/2010 - 2:24pm||Email?||
It's probably futile (and if already discussed on here I apologize), but does anyone know if David Brandon has an email address that the public can use to send respectful but strongly worded messages about moving The Game? I can't seem to find it if it exists. I have sent Madej an email already.
|08/25/2010 - 1:12pm||Should be in the physical||
A basic eye exam is usually involved in any athlete's physical, and concerns for vision problems should warrant a referral for a complete eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist (I'm a resident at UofM and have done pre-screening physicals, but no, not for UofM's athletes).

Thanks for the info.
|03/04/2010 - 4:33pm||Unsure, but:||
They are usually open on St. Pat's day, and sometimes they close for a little while after that until it is consistently warmer. I don't know if they have an annual start day.
|02/15/2010 - 6:21pm||Totally agree. I would love||
Totally agree. I would love to see him wear number one. It would be a great way to bring that number back.
|02/09/2010 - 1:10pm||Loved it.||
It was my favorite bar back when it was at the old spot and I lived at South Forest and South U. I love how it kept the metal bikes as decoration from the building's days as "Bicycle Jim's." It will be missed.
(But yeah, the new incarnation sucked).
|02/08/2010 - 8:43pm||No question||
I took Comp Lit 240, and you got to pick your own grade (!!) Seriously, I showed up to the first class and like none others, and got a 4.0. I know people who didn't write any papers and still got the 4.0. Ridiculous.
|02/03/2010 - 4:21pm||Hankins||
In that survey of the top-10 recruits from the state, Hankins was asked if OSU bashed Michigan in his visit. I don't have the link, but he said that they didn't say anything negative, but they did show him the clock that has the last time we beat them. All in all, that is pretty mild.
It's gotta be Dantonio.
|02/02/2010 - 12:20am||The Zook||
I hope history changes course, but I don't see how any Wolverine fan can consider the Illinois game an automatic win.
That said, if RR is ever gonna get things turned around, things like beating Ron Zook should be at the top of the to-do list. Hopefully he does.
|01/28/2010 - 9:32am||Well...||
I'll agree that Craig James is probably a scumbag, but not for this particular part of the story. I mean, if your son told you that he had to stand in a utility closet for hours after getting a concussion, what other recourse is there? It may seem drastic, but I bet a lot of parents in that situation would at least consider litigation.
Now, what went on with Adam James and the rest of the involvement with his dad and TT I don't know. This just seems like something a lot of people would do - threaten to sue when their son was allegedly being abused/mistreated.
Also, ESPN might not have known about this piece of the story, since it was just released yesterday. But, yeah, ESPN still sucks.
|01/25/2010 - 10:48am||Mesko||
Even though he is the greatest punter in the universe, there's a very good chance Zoltan is not drafted. In 2009 two punters were taken, which was high. 2008 had only one. The rest are usually invited to camps/signed as free agents.
|01/18/2010 - 12:46pm||Wow.||
This fan fiction crap is just the sort of thing to be taken to a blog for another team and used as fodder.
|01/17/2010 - 1:20pm||Likely||
Well, his death is probably cardiac in nature, but not related to clogged arteries, etc. More of a structural defect he was born with. If, that is, he had the enlarged heart ESPN is saying he did.
|01/17/2010 - 1:07pm||Possible cause||
Often times in young athletes (and more common in African American/black people than other races/ethnicities) it's something called congenital hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, basically meaning some people are born with a heart that is either already enlarged or predisposed to grow too big, eventually failing and suddenly giving out. Though this is routinely screened for on physicals and should be diagnosed early.
Sad. He was the #4 draft pick one year if I recall correctly.
|01/15/2010 - 8:32pm||Maybe?||
Maybe, but unlikely, they didn't get an MRI on it until he went home for Christmas. Or he just had microtear(s) that weren't apparent on the MRI until after he played more (and therefore they enlarged). Just some possibilities.
|12/20/2009 - 4:29pm||Cardiac arrest||
Cardiac arrest in young people is usually because of a congenital defect (like hypertrophy of the heart muscle) and often, but not always, shows up earlier than age 32 and during exercise, and is often found during a physical. But who knows. Sad stuff.
|12/09/2009 - 10:18pm||Just a reminder...||
Wanted to point out that Mack Brown was 1-10 (!!) in his first two years at North Carolina before turning it around, and eventually landing the Texas job. Good thing they didn't abandon him after two years, eh?
|12/07/2009 - 6:34pm||I could not agree more. I||
I could not agree more. I like the idea of playing them in spurts and then having breaks to schedule other teams. The idea of playing them every year until 2076 (or whenever the contract expires...) is depressing.
I'd much rather see some variety.
|12/03/2009 - 7:46pm||Don't forget that the way||
Don't forget that the way that teams sign rookies out of the draft will probably be reworked after this draft class. Or at least that's been the rumor for some time. So I suspect we will see a lot of underclassmen enter the draft - in some cases before they probably should - to try and cash in. It might be like the year before the NBA instituted the rule that players have to have had a year after high school to be eligible.
I am not saying Warren should or shouldn't go pro based on ability. If I had to guess, based on recent UofM draftees going much lower than expected - Woodley, Alan Branch, Gabe Watson, etc - he is a third rounder. Pure speculation. But a 3rd rounder in the 2010 draft might make more than a second rounder in 2011. Good luck to him whatever he decides. We'll be OK.
Also, I think the change in rookie contract rules means Jimmah goes pro for sure. That and the whole "got punched in the face by a fan and his coach was fired" thing.
|12/01/2009 - 9:53pm||I'll throw out Benny's for||
I'll throw out Benny's for food and Fraser's for drink. Though those are based more on atmosphere than anything...
|11/28/2009 - 6:00pm||Two ideas||
I got a putter that comes in a few pieces and screws together, with a personalized "Go Blue!" engraving on the case it comes in. It was pretty cool. I've also seen baseball bats personalized, which was also a nice gift.
|11/26/2009 - 3:23pm||Sorry to nitpick, but I think||
Sorry to nitpick, but I think we're 14 post-Christian. And it seems every few years tOSU has a smaller class because they don't have enough room for a full class.
|11/24/2009 - 10:06pm||True.||
Maybe I'm being biased, but I also like a lot of our three-stars. A lot of them have offers from other good schools, which doesn't coincide with their star rankings.
|11/24/2009 - 9:57pm||Damn.||
If we can grab any 1-2 of Parker, Jefferson, Grimes, or Knight then I think the secondary class has to easily be our best in years. Not to mention Turner and Witty able to play next year, too.
BTW, on the strength of Christian's commit, Scout's front page has us up to #16, up from #20.
Here's to RR closing strong...
|11/24/2009 - 7:43pm||I don't know why, you're||
I don't know why, you're their best seller.
|11/24/2009 - 7:27pm||English was responsible for||
English was responsible for recruiting Donovan Warren, Jonas Mouton, and Mike Williams. Not too shabby. He was a pretty good recruiter, albeit one who focused on the West Coast a lot.
|11/23/2009 - 9:28pm||Tate||
Didn't win freshman of the year. Wow. I don't agree with that.
|11/22/2009 - 8:16pm||I like your spirit, but until||
I like your spirit, but until further notice, Illinois should be in the "INEXPLICABLY NOT LIKELY TO WIN" category. And we're beating tOSU next year.
|11/15/2009 - 4:17pm||Simpsons/Spinal Tap||
Reminds me of when Bart went to see Spinal Tap, and they taped "Springfield" behind the guitar to remember where they were.
"Hello, Springfield!" (cheers)
|11/15/2009 - 1:41pm||He is the man.||
He made up for it by playing impromptu versions of "Ramblin' Gamblin Man" (Seger cover they haven't played since 1992) and "Detroit Medley." He laughed at himself for the mistake. Amazing show, I was in the front row and will never forget it.
|11/15/2009 - 8:00am||Anyone who thinks||
...Tressel is going to go overly-conservative on Saturday is insane. There's never been any indication he won't pull out all the stops to beat us. He got some criticism this year after losing to Purdue and USC; I'm sure he know that beating us, even in a down year, still means a lot.
And Pryor? I'm terrified of him. He has more potential than Troy Smith, and we're the team that has made every single Big 10 QB we've played look like a star.
I hope to the football gods that we win. It will be tough though.
|11/14/2009 - 5:14pm||It was good...||
...last night at the Springsteen concert. Bruuuuuuuce!
|11/14/2009 - 11:20am||If he comes here...||
It'll be good that OSU (sorta) snubbed him. The more our players dislike them, the better.
|11/12/2009 - 3:13pm||I think...||
Perhaps the OLine will be slightly different than you project, like Barnum or Washington at guard. But who knows? I think the D-line will be affected the most because someone like Graham simply has to make everyone else better when he's there.
