My friend, rugby is the sport for you.  Elements very similar to our beloved American football, but with a much greater emphasis on kicking the ball (and no blocking).  Full-on tackling with an absolute minimum to no padding.  It is no exaggeration that rugby players at almost all levels play through sprains, strains, tears, breaks, lacerations, you name it.  They come off the pitch only when absolutely necessary.  Not to denigrate soccer . . . it's a wonderful game played by unquestionably world-class athletes. Never ceases to amaze how people can handle the ball with their feet.  It is absolutely a contact sport, and I share your disdain for the diving, or "play-acting" as they call it across the Pond.  Cleaning up that aspect would only help.

This kid's athleticism and skill clearly indicate he's under-ranked.  Speaking of that, it seems that ratings are not nearly as timely and comprehensive as they have been in the past.  As one who does not follow it too closely, has there been downturn in the industry?  And if this continues, does the star system become less reliable?

While I respect your opinion, I think the Notorious DOA was one of the first indicators of the demise of rap.  Unintelligible gibberish, with almost arhythmic beats and bass.  Day and night from the likes of Chuck D. and Rakim.

06/07/2018 - 3:26pm Rap as a viable music form…

Rap as a viable music form died some time around 1993.  Rock is on life support.

Flint coneys are vastly superior to Detroit

Jim Carrey movies are awful.

I always thought Northwestern would be a great candidate for hockey.  Great location, proximity to Great Lakes area talent, money to burn (judging by their new lakefront facility), academics, etc.

05/23/2018 - 1:40pm My very first car (in 1986)

My very first car (in 1986) was an '82 Buick Skylark from this family.  Ran great, had the indestructible 2.5L 4 cylinder (Iron Duke it was known as, IIRC).  For an '82, it was loaded . . . power locks/windows, AC, FM stereo, etc.  Only rust was on the deck lid, which I bought a replacement for in a junkyard for next to nothing and had painted for free at the dealership I had a summer job at.  Very nice velvet-like seats (not 70s pimp velvet, but nice material).  Kinda wish I still had it as a tongue-in-cheek "cruise" vehicle.

05/23/2018 - 12:03pm I was in the student section

I was in the student section (26, maybe, that year) in the very lower rows. That play was right in front of me. I threw even more marshmallows in my rage.

My 2000 GMC Jimmy LT I traded in with 230,000 miles on it in 2007. Ran like a champ, not a spot of rust, never failed to start.

05/23/2018 - 11:42am If he throws the ball all

If he throws the ball all season like he did against Michigan last year, Haskins will find himself very near the top of that list by end of season. This makes me sad.

05/10/2018 - 12:06pm Great point. Dr J invented

Great point. Dr J invented the style of play associated with "high flying" and "hang time". Others have certainly built upon and even improved it, but it takes a particular genius to revolutionize the way the game is played.

05/10/2018 - 12:00pm Jordan did just fine with

Jordan did just fine with protection from the rules. You were not allowed to defend him with the hands / body like you could any other player in the League. And conversely, all that could not be done against him he was given free rein to do himself.
I would agree with whomever above said Jordan had much better skill than LJ. But no one, ever IMO, has been the physical/athletic equal of LJ.

Straight out of the Carmelo playbook. Worst non-baseball hit and run ever.

04/18/2018 - 12:13pm Sarah McLachlan. Apologies

Sarah McLachlan. Apologies for being that guy. I thought Teske was really good in broken plays as a screener, frequently recognizing and picking off the dribbler's man to clear the lane. I think his see and react response is excellent for a big guy.

She represented America as we all, regardless of political stripe, would expect. Dignity, caring, family, firm, willing to listen. Hers is an all too rare breed on both sides of the aisle in today's American politics.

03/04/2018 - 10:20am And all-around skill. A guy

And all-around skill. A guy I worked with as a kid had a son who was in a Celtic training camp . . . said Bird was the best he ever played with. Every detail, Bird was a master. I hated him as a Piston fan in the 80s, but now miss him. His type of game . . . skill, smarts, iron will, huge cajones, seems to lack in today's game. Would a guy like him with only adequate athleticism get a sniff in today's NBA? And not just white guys . . . take Adrian Dantley and Mark Aguirre, neither a thoroughbred but both had hugely successful and long careers. Different game.

I can have and enjoy a Detroit coney, both places, they're both good. However neither comes close to a Flint coney. If you haven't objectively tried one, I wholeheartedly recommend you do so. No, Flint is not what you would call a "destination", but an hour-ish drive for a superior dog is worthwhile.

01/30/2018 - 12:22pm Her comment about protecting

Her comment about protecting the brand over people is, IMO, the very heart of the problem. If they had outed Nasser immediately, the PR plaudits would have rolled in. That a predator was on the staff to a certain extent was beyond their control . . . Nassers exist in just about every walk of life. I think MSU feared short-sightedly the repercussions of Nassers ills becoming public. Long term, for immediately dismissing/ prosecuting Nasser, MSU would have received universal acclaim for rooting out and dealing harshly with a predator. Sure there may have been questions as to why Nasser was there to begin with, but the news is filled every day with stories of brilliant, talented people with ugly demons. They can't be identified until they make a mistake.

01/29/2018 - 7:50pm NBA players are popular but

NBA players are popular but no one gives a damn about the teams. 90% of the league has no chance to win. But at least it is "progressive", whatever that means in basketball.

01/27/2018 - 10:30pm I saw the C-A/Grand Blanc

I saw the C-A/Grand Blanc game at Atwood Stadium.  GB's QBs, especially #7, can run.  That this big kid can track him down speaks well of his athleticism.
