06/06/2018 - 7:58am When my wife and I got…

When my wife and I got together, we had three Labs between us. Some years later, there came a day when there were none. That lasted two weeks. We're dog people, couldn't have a house without dogs. It's hard losing a dog. Best of luck.

I'm in Boulder County. Heard of the carp slam but haven't fished it. We got all the carp and transients we need up here, so I don't go to Denver much to fish,

05/02/2018 - 5:52pm I mean dry fly fishing in

I mean dry fly fishing in pocket water on small streams, fishing with a fixed length of line -- there's a reel but it's just holding the line you're not using -- and false casting just to dry out the fly, pick it up and lay it down. It's just like tenkara fishing. High sticking pocket water. Same thing, same approach, same techniques, just with regular fly gear instead of the specialized tenkara rig. When the tenkara wave swept through here, I was like, That's what you're already doing if you're doing right!

Try the new graphite rods, Pops. THEY'RE SWELL!

j/k, I've fished a lot of vintage and contemporary bamboo, from Leonards and FE Thomases to Mike Clarks and others, had a large collection of Grangers at one point, and even started out on a beat-up Heddon.

05/02/2018 - 4:39pm Usually a 7wt, but I'll range

Usually a 7wt, but I'll range 6 to 8 depending. For carp I like a rod that will load close in and lay in the fly with some touch, something troutier than salty. I don't necessarily always use a floating line, even poling for carp up skinny.

It won't be a problem. You'll give up the other stuff.

I do a lot carp on the fly. Great challenge.

05/02/2018 - 12:07pm I'm a fly guy in trout

I'm a fly guy in trout country, guide mainly for trout, and spend a lot of my own fishing time after warmwater species.

If I had to pick a favorite thing to fish, it could be a lot of things: saltwater flats in the tropics for bones, permit and tarpon, or stripers on the Maine coast, or pike in the Nebraska Sandhills in the spring or fall, or sight fishing to cruising cutts in the Colorado high country in August, or wiper busting shad on the surface at first or last light on a high plains reservoir, or lakers and grayling on the Niorth Slope of Alaska. The St Vrain and Big Thompson are the waters I've been fishing the longest continually, and the Fryingpan River is the place I've been going to annually for the longest.

For just Michigan stuff, the PM above Gleason's Landing is water I loved a lot and knew well back in the day. A stretch of the White near White Cloud, pretty small water with brookies, is a favorite place. I spent a lot of time on the Rogue when I lived in GR.

Later today, I'll go check on some carp in a pond in a city park a few blocks away. Right now my home water, such as it is, is a wide spot in an irrigation ditch in the barrio.

End of the month, headed to Canada with the boat for the annual spring northwoods pike/laker/walleye/smallmouth-fest.

04/25/2018 - 2:12pm Beautiful country. For a few

Beautiful country. For a few years, I was hunting deer and elk on the north side, Pyramid Peak area iirc, and would go up there in July and August to scout and fish for cutts.

04/25/2018 - 2:05pm I've made three trips to Isle

I've made three trips to Isle Royale with a canoe. Love the backcountry there.

Rocky Mountain is my #1. I've fished, hiked and guided Rocky for 25 years, worked a bunch of years in Estes, and have a little place 5.5 miles from the park boundary. I'll never fish everything, but I'm getting close on the east side.

I feel a bit Henson-esque about Jabrill's time. Like, that went fast. And doesn't feel like it paid off like it should've. But he was the most exciting man on the field the last two years, he Campsite Ruled us, and now he must go get paid.

That was a great read. I've always been pulling for the guy. Harbaugh's clearly willing to put him on the field and is going to use him this year some in non mop-up, I bet. I'd be a bit surprised if he walked away from a 5th year at Michigan, and a 3rd year under Harbaugh.

I had to abruptly run to DIA in the 3Q and had to listen to the KOA broadcast, with Barnett doing color. He does not do very vibrant color. Somnolent tones.

I wish Harbaugh weren't doing this. The imperious head ball coach bullshit is not a good look for him or the university. Providing fodder and then engaging an asshole like Rome, and implicitly threatening to get tough, just no. C'mon, Jim.

Pheasants mainly, but also bobwhites and prairie grouse, plus some blue grouse in the mountains. And I use Labs too. I think they're great for hunting the grasslands and croplands, especially the American or field lines, or the Pointing Labs.

The Replacements Riot Fest/Denver Show. I'd seen them a number of times in the bad ol' days, from Tim to Tom Petty to the final tour, and Paul a bunch, but seeing Paul and Tommy playing together again after so many years, and being there for it, was weighty. I was homelss from a natural disaster, had only a few days before been airlifted by the Natl Guard (with ticket among all worldly possesions in backpack) and still made the show. The return to Denver at the Filmore during the proper tour was good too. Getting two mats shows here was just great random luck.

First date with wife/birth of daughter.

Fishing on Alaska's North Slope all night alone.

Any of 100s of winter days of bird hunting on the High Plains with my dogs.
