Fast. Quick. Twitchy. Competitive. Great cover skills. The only two things missing: height and ball skills. Lots of PBUs and not many INTs. He can’t make himself taller, but I’m confident his ball skills will improve under Crowell before he arrives at Michigan. GO BLUE!

YEEESSSSS! Here is a player who can help U-M win championships. 6-0, 200lbs, sub 4.6 40...did I mention he can tackle, catch, and even block?
Huge get. Welcome to the Family, Joey V! GO BLUE!

Very good speed and quickness. Nice hands. Strong, willing blocker. I guess he's not higher rated because he's not 6-4? Can even throw a nice pass. Love this commitment.
Welcome to the family, Kalil. GO BLUE!

Quick scouting report from various sources: Crazy fast and quick and doesn't lose 1-on-1 reps at camps. Obviously small and may struggle to cover bigger receivers. Despite size, tackles well and does not shy away from contact.

Love the comparison at the end of the post. Some things are not surprising: your OL and FB success seems to have much less to do with stars than development. Some things jumped out: LBs and DLs looked very comparable. While Gary and Graham trump Winovich and Steele, the gap is not as wide as I'd expect. On the flip side, I'd take Henry and Renes over Carr and Horn.
But damn, that three-star squad is gooooooood. It will be very interesting to see if some of the 2018 3-stars earn their way onto the team. Christian Turner, Ben VanSumeren, Julius Welschof, Michael Barrett, Luke Schoonmaker, and Hassan Haskins are all guys that I believe are likely to comfortably out-perform their rankings. Taylor Upshaw is another good bet since Michigan has been turning all DL into stars lately.

Tough to see this. Wisconsin returns nearly everyone and, while I think a tougher West will prevent them from a perfect regular season again, 9-10 wins seems about right to me, and winning the West.

|06/11/2018 - 2:29pm||The analytics are clearly…||
The analytics are clearly telling us that this defense will be elite. Hill, Long, Winovich, Gary, Bush, and Hudson are all PFF favorites. That's six of our eleven starters. Kemp and Kwity are likely upgrades as back-up DEs. Hurst is gone, but Dwumfour will now be paired with 5-star Solomon, with highly experienced back-ups at both DT spots.
I do not see a hole in this defense. If they can eliminate or reduce the inside fade success teams had against them last year, this could be the #1 defense in the country--even facing one of the toughest schedules in the country.
If we can get the offense into the top 30, this will be a great season. If the offense gets into the top 20, this will be a special season.

Probably because Greise was a game manager who did just enough to help our team get the NC, and Denard was a game-breaker saddled with some bad defenses and coaching that still managed to tear-up records. Oh, and he's probably the most likeable human being of all time.
|05/29/2018 - 6:24pm||Obvious is obvious||
Harbaugh will get this team to 10 wins (including the bowl). The question is if the pieces are in place for a special season--winning the B1G and/or making the CFP.
If he doesn't do that, Michigan's recruiting might drop off a bit, but I think this article overstates the issue. There is still a combination of athletics and academics that many schools will have a hard time matching, and the facilities are top notch. Add in the number of surefire draft picks and Harbaugh and Co. will have plenty of recruiting firepower.
That said, obvious is obvious, and another bad year (8 wins or less) would hurt recruiting.
|05/29/2018 - 12:03pm||Agree with the article||
Wisconsin might be the best team in the B1G. Ohio State is loaded with talent (as always) but the Badgers have depth and experience pretty much everywhere. I believe that Wisconsin at home is as much of a challenge as Ohio State on the road this year.
MSU is overrated despite bringing back a strong team, and it's not just because of schedule. They overachieved last year and won't repeat that feat in an even stronger conference. Luck won't continue to roll their way, and they play better as underdogs, which they won't be this year.
Michigan might be slightly underrated, but I don't see how you can look at our schedule and rank us higher than #10. If we make the CFP this year, it would be one of the best seasons in CFB history.
ND and PSU are overrated for the reasons described in the article. PSU will miss Moorhead and Barkley and get bludgeonded by the brutal East, while ND lost a great coach as well (Ecko) and have their typically tough schedule.
If you're an oddsmaker, it's hard to see the B1G as anything other than an Ohio State vs. Wisconsin rematch. Sure, Michigan could put the pieces together and disrupt that scenario, but the rest of the conference will suffer from better competition coming from Nebraska and Purdue. The B1G continues its ascendancy this season and will, once again, be the best conference in CFB.
|05/28/2018 - 12:40pm||Talent is better in 2018.||
Talent is better in 2018. We’ll see if they play better. They are still younger. The only guys that were clearly more talented than their 2018 counterparts were Peppers, Charlton, Braden, Magnuson, and Butt.
|05/25/2018 - 9:36pm||TEs?||
|05/25/2018 - 3:26pm||Answers||
Too many folks forget that last year was always going to be brutal. Not only were we exceptionally young, we lost our starting QB (and back-up for OSU) and best WR in the thinnest position group on the team. We still underachieved, and that's a problem, but it's because of lack of knowledge or coaching ability--in fact we probably had too much of that. Here's hoping that Harbaugh puts it together this year. I am cautiously optimistic given our talent, experience, and the new coaching crew.

kurpit is a troll without a clue. Deal has offers from almost every national powerhouse that uses TEs, including Alabama, Ohio State, Auburn, Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia, and USC. He's a 4* and #246 in the nation on 247. He's a willing, capable blocker, has soft, strong hands, runs good routes and has plus athleticism for his size.
Yes, if he commits, it's a huge pick-up. kurpit gonna kurpit.

Great stuff. Would love to see more plays with Higdon and Evans. Not just for the reasons you noted, but also because I think they are two of our best 11. Both can catch and Evans, as noted, is really a hybrid player.

Would be ecstatic to have this guy at Michigan. I guess some folks don't understand that you can make a style comparison without saying you think he'll be as good as the comparable, because Charbonnet's running style definitely reminds me of Perry.
Also love Kyren Williams, who looks A LOT like Mike Hart (Sam Webb nailed that one). He's not as fast as Charbonnet, but he is so shifty and has great balance. He will be a great college player somewhere.

What's so interesting here is that the fan criticism was more or less confirmed by the program:
My sincere hope is that Michigan's offense evolves much the way Georgia's did last year, streamlining a bit to focus on what we do well while adding simple, complimentary wrinkles like RPOs.
Harbaugh's offenses will always be multiple, but that doesn't mean there can't be a clear identity. We have the big uglies to run very effectively, and if Warriner can simply get the talent on the same page, this could be a special season.
